Chapter 27 Settlement (2/2)

Just as Chen Fengshan walked to the tractor parked by the roadside, intending to sit down for a while, he heard Ruan Tang's question.
He turned around and looked Ruan Tang up and down a few times, his brows furrowing slightly. He shook his head, his tone much gentler than before: "Young comrade, there are empty houses in the village, but it's too dangerous for a young girl like you to live alone. If there's any commotion at night, there won't be anyone to help you. No, no!"
Ruan Tang's heart sank slightly. Just as she was about to say something more, a deep and magnetic male voice sounded from behind her.
Yan Yu, who was following behind Ruan Tang, took a step forward. His tall and imposing figure instantly enveloped Ruan Tang.
"Captain, do you have any houses that are... close by? We can live nearby so we can call out to each other if anything happens."
When he said "the two of us," his tone was intimate and natural, and his gaze was calm as he looked at Chen Fengshan, his deep eyes carrying a convincing seriousness.
Ruan Tang was burned by the other party's shameless words. A heat crept up her ears and her cheeks became slightly hot.
That shameless bastard, who's with him? The two of them?
Chen Fengshan glanced at their expressions and thought to himself that the two kids were probably dating.
Throughout the journey, he noticed that the young man had been taking good care of the girl beside him; his attentiveness was unlike that of a typical gay couple.
However, Chen Fengshan, a grown man, wasn't that gossipy. He thought for a moment, his eyes lit up, and he whispered, "Hey, now that you mention it, I've remembered a place!"
"At the end of the village, near the foot of the back mountain, there is a courtyard. It originally belonged to two brothers, but they later divided the family property and built a wall in the middle of the courtyard to separate it into two households."
“A few years ago, the two brothers became successful and moved to the provincial capital together. The house has been empty ever since, and now the property rights belong to the village.”
Chen Fengshan looked at Yan Yu and Ruan Tang and continued, "The courtyard is quite large, and the house is made of blue bricks and gray tiles, so it's quite sturdy. It's just that the well and the kang (heated brick bed) inside need some tidying up, but..."
He then changed the subject, saying, "This house isn't rented out in the village, it's only for sale. If you really want to buy it, it's a fixed price of 180 yuan, no bargaining!"
He gestured with his finger, "There's another condition: you can live in this house, but when you go back to the city, you have to return it to the village exactly as it was. And the money won't be refunded then. Think it over carefully."
This house is really expensive. 180 yuan is no small amount. Moreover, once you return to the city, you have to return the house to the village and won't get your money back. These conditions are a bit excessive.
Yan Yu did not agree immediately. He looked down at the girl and waited for Ruan Tang to make a decision.
Ruan Tang thought for a moment and said, "We bought the house, so it's ours, right?"
“Of course.” Chen Fengshan nodded. The reason he said that the house would belong to the village after returning to the city was partly because he was afraid that the villagers would have objections. If the house wasn’t so nice, someone would have wanted to buy it long ago.
On the other hand, some come from big cities, and no one can say for sure if they have any connections. They won't stay in the countryside for long before going back.
However, the money used to buy the house went into the village collective and couldn't be taken back. Naturally, the house reverted to the village, and the money was definitely not going to be returned. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
