Where is this?

Mien woke up and lay in bed. Snowflakes were floating outside the window, falling on the towering wolf-shaped building. The house across the street was at least a hundred meters away, but it looked like it was right in front of him.

In his fright, he grabbed one hand and placed it on the other.

"You're awake? When we found you, you were lying in a tree hole. Why did you crawl into the tree hole?"

The one speaking is a dwarf healer from Hyperion, who looks fierce and has medicine dripping from his beard.

"The tree hole? You saw the mirror too?"

Another medical worker stood in the corner of the room. No one could tell how capable he was. He spoke like a lion, as if to teach others a lesson.

“If he weren’t Tobas’s servant, we wouldn’t waste our time on a brain-dead bastard.”

Strangely, this medical worker, despite insulting Mien so blatantly, felt no sadness, but rather a sense of comfort and complete freedom from worry.

Mien's marble-gray eyes seemed to see right through the group's thoughts.

On the surface, they appear noble, but in reality, they are treacherous and hypocritical, disguised by humility and sincerity. Just as a venomous snake hides under a flower, they feign hospitality even before the King of the North.

Those who outwardly serve the king may do a perfect job, but inwardly their hearts are like a tomb. Sometimes, the human heart is even worse than that of the devil!

The dwarf healer gave Mien a pill and said to him, "What's there to hide under the tree hole? Don't hide there next time."

Where's the mirror?

"A mirror?" the dwarf turned to his companion and asked, "Has this Podrolite's brain been frozen?"

Another person shrugged and said, "Maybe he's dreaming under a tree hole."

Upon hearing this, Mien suddenly threw off the covers, and without even getting dressed, ran to the tree.

There was really nothing under the tree; no tunnel, just a few jagged black rocks.

Was it all just a dream?

Just then, Tobas's troops returned, and the soldiers were in high spirits, knowing they must have won another victory.

Sure enough, the crowd cheered and started discussing it even before they entered the city, as if they could immediately wipe out all the enemies, as if everyone had witnessed it firsthand.

Mien joined the crowd, only to see many illusions.

One brave and strong soldier claimed to have killed two great demons, while another strong soldier said he shot an arrow into his adjutant's heart; in short, each one made a stronger claim than the other.

What Mien heard seemed different from what they actually said.

One of them said, "I didn't even notice that they would use alchemy to attack me. I thought that was a spell that only the forces of light could use. If I hadn't been wearing anti-magic armor, I definitely wouldn't have made it back."

Another person put it another way: "It's a pity that if that person hadn't died before me, I wouldn't be back. I don't want to become an anonymous stepping stone."

Upon closer listening, it became clear that few soldiers dared to volunteer to be at the forefront. What they said to the crowd was the exact opposite of what Mien had heard: they all claimed that their lifelong belief was to win the battle, to prove themselves, and to drive away the demon legion.

The flickering firelight formed two enormous shapes on the tent roof, as if they were fighting each other in the sky, a row of gleaming teeth as if they wanted to swallow each other whole.

In the intoxicating light, Tobas's face was as hard as stone.

He must have something on his mind.

Mien seemed to hear him say, "Is our invincibility really just because we never underestimate our opponents? I think the truly powerful members of the demon legion are trapped on the plains. Defeating the High Angels is only a matter of time. I truly hope that moment never comes, never."

Mien could clearly hear Tobas's thoughts. He was worried about the future of the snow mountain, and his worries went far beyond that. As more and more groups were willing to join the team, it was difficult to unify their language and behavioral habits, which greatly affected discipline.

In addition, a demon lieutenant named Resa has occupied East Silverback for a month. His fire magic can change the climate of the snow mountain, making the weather hot. He has even sent out incredibly beautiful succubi to bewitch people.

Fear, an extremely painful fear. Tobas appears brave and gives people endless hope, but in reality, he is bound like a slave, because due to the gap in combat power, the obstacles he cannot overcome are increasing.

Nevertheless, Tobas would still reflect on his experience after returning to the fortress, firmly believing that a stone could be deeply imprinted if it was continuously polished.

Seeing his former friend looking so sad, Mien felt a strange sense of joy. The more tragic characters there were, the happier his heart felt.

That night, a strange thing happened in Hyperion: eight soldiers on night patrol disappeared.

The next morning, the bodies of the eight soldiers were found near the obelisk.

These people all exhibited grotesque and unsightly phenomena; their limbs were twisted together in a very unreasonable way, like soft tentacles. This kind of unreasonableness quickly spread among the masses.

"Have you heard? Demons have invaded Hyperion!"

"It's something that can destroy the world. How many people are affected by it?"

"Please stop talking, or the King of the North will be displeased! Tobas's efforts cannot be wasted!"

"But some people really did see the demon. They described it as having an octopus-like face and a body as thin as a mummy."

"I've heard about it too! I've also heard that it might be a creature called a wizard, who has lived in the snow mountains for tens of thousands of years and was resurrected by someone!"

The rumors grew and eventually reached the ears of the King of the North.

The King of the North is ill, but he cannot let anyone know what illness he has. His eyesight is much worse than before, and his memory is severely impaired. When he sees a pot, he says it is a goose, and he will repeat the name.

"Hyperion, Hyperion, the strongest bulwark of another world, a wall that demons cannot cross."

The servants all knew that the King of the North was ill and unable to do his work, so whenever he showed any serious symptoms, they would call Tobas over. Upon seeing Tobas, the King of the North's condition would temporarily improve.

Tobas described the recent battles and what he had seen and heard to the King of the North.

The King of the North asked him, "I've heard that the wizard has been resurrected. Is that true?"

"My king, I have sent men to investigate for several nights in a row, but we have not found any trace of the wizard."

"Let's look again?"

“They even searched under the big trees. I believe someone is deliberately trying to disrupt morale and maliciously spread lies.”

"Oh, you saw those dead soldiers too?"

"I really can't figure out why those eight people would run so far. Someone must have been tempting them in the dark. If it was one of our own people who did it, I'll find out and make them pay!"

The Northern King believed every word Tobas said. He gazed at the snow-capped mountain as if his own legion stood atop it, his breath warming his furry cheeks.

"Tobas, I know I don't have an illness. Valhalla is calling me. You are the future king, the sturdy wall of Hyperion. Tell me honestly, are you not afraid of demons?"

"Fear, but the source of fear is often not the enemy, but oneself."

"Like when I was young."

A rare look of nostalgia appeared on the face of the Northern King. Seeing this, Tobas stopped speaking, afraid of disturbing his peace of mind.

Just then, a guard with a gun stumbled in.

"Your Majesty! And, and Lord Tobas! It's so good that you're all here! Quickly, go outside and take a look! The color of the snowflakes has changed!"
