Chapter 83 Bewitching
Reading Settings
There are treacherous paths flowing against the current in the swift current, and rocks swept down by the current will crack within seconds.
Above the waterfall lies the Naga's stronghold, where their fangs are longer than before, and their noses have become sharp weapons.
The group of sea creatures surrounded several pillars, on which human trophies were tied.
Judging from their clothing, the people on the pillar must be employees of West Energy Company who managed to escape the vortex by sheer luck, but their luck ends there.
As the captain said, male Naga dared not advance after hearing the priestess's roar; this was a resonance within the species and a way of protecting their leader.
The infiltration was a great success.
In the open space ahead stood a male Naga, over three meters tall, wielding a trident and overseeing the spoils on the pillar.
The spoils on the pillar looked alive, but they were practically the same as dead.
These employees of Western Energy Company all come from various exploration platforms and only have exploration qualification certificates. They have not undergone rigorous training, so it is impossible for them to survive tonight.
hiss!
The Naga guarding the spoils flicked her red tongue at three unfamiliar guards.
The captain quickly imitated the action.
Perhaps it was different; steam was emanating from the other person's body, as if they were on fire.
Hiss! Hiss!
What to do? The lip movements don't match!
Biris and Mia were preparing for battle when a fishman walked over.
This was the first time they had ever seen a murloc other than a true Naga.
Murlocs look like mutated fish mutated by radiation, with two arms and two legs, giving them a greater advantage than the legless Naga. However, they willingly submit to the Naga because they do not understand magic.
The fishman's voice was strange, like a fishbone stuck in his throat, half-resonant and half-hoarse.
The Naga could understand the language of any marine creature, and the trident-wielding figure, as if receiving a command, twisted his body and walked toward the temple ahead.
After the orthodox Naga left, the captain used a blinding spell on the little fishman.
Blinding may not work on large creatures, but it is particularly effective on small creatures.
Compared to humans, fish have much poorer eyesight, only able to see clearly at a distance of one or three meters.
After suffering blindness surgery, the fish-man could see even less, and its mind was also not working properly, thinking that the rainbow light formed by the magic path was blocking its vision.
In this way, the special agent team infiltrated the headquarters.
In the center of the base camp was a long corridor about 100 meters wide, leading to the temple directly in front.
The temple has two or three hundred steps, and each step has tooth-shaped candlesticks. The candlesticks seem to be just decorations on the steps. Although the flames are active, they are not the ones that actually generate heat and flames.
The largest flames come from the altar at the top.
At this moment, about a hundred Naga were gathered around the altar. Their bodies were so strong and sturdy, both male and female, as if they had grown up under the same gravity.
Every face is wide and flat, except for the one in the very center.
The priestess waved her scepter and chanted: "Leviathan, Lord of the Ocean! We have learned to fight against mankind at your call. You are like the Naga's grandmother, teaching us how to sacrifice ourselves in battle. Mighty Lord of the Ocean! Lead the Naga to the underwater altar, where our true home lies."
The fire on the altar burned fiercely, drawing a demonic path from the seabed. It arrived so quickly that the naked eye could not detect when it came.
The Demon Path devours the flames, transforming them into energy; its other side connects to the opposite shore of the sea.
Only after the flames died down did they discover what had been burning in the altar.
The Naga are providing food for Leviathan through sacrifice.
The male Nagas around them all stood upright, and the priest was about to descend from above.
On the right side of the temple was a circular niche with a protruding top, like a wooden canopy. There was a passageway on the right side, and the priestess slowly entered the passageway.
Humans cannot see inside the tunnel, but the Naga can.
The surrounding area is covered with murals. The stones in the murals seem to have awakened from a state of deep meditation, revealing a mountain range that is astonishing to the world. The broad forehead, as high as a mountain, is wrinkled with deep lines, and the cracked things look like mouths.
The Naga in the mural kneel before it, just as subjects kneel before their king.
Leviathan's appearance was so large that it could not be contained in an entire mural.
The priest gazed devoutly at the mural, when suddenly he saw a pair of eyes shining brightly in the darkness.
It hurriedly turned around and saw a priest standing behind it who looked exactly like itself.
Before he could even chant the incantation, something rushed into his mind, and the priest's pupils immediately lost their light.
"Did it work?" asked Biris, who was disguised as a male Naga.
Another male Naga nodded: "The bewitching spell can only last for ten minutes. Take it to the room. Mia, it's up to you outside. Don't let anyone in."
Mia, disguised as a priestess, walked outside very naturally.
Billis and the captain then carried Naga in the opposite direction.
Based on the size of the Naga, the temple was four to five times the size of human buildings. It was a mix of coral and wood, with very little stone used. There were no windows, and the doors were all open.
The Naga priestess lay on a coral bed, awake but in a rather hazy state of mind; in other words, she had become a puppet to be manipulated at will.
Billis asked, "Where is Leviathan?"
The priestess replied, "The west."
“I need a specific location.”
"Follow the Demon Path to its end, and you will find the eyes of a whale, the armor of a turtle, mountain ridges, forests, and islands—that is the Lord of the Ocean."
Does it have any weaknesses?
"Child of the Demonic Path, the Fourth Pillar, Leviathan, has no weaknesses."
"Every species in the world has weaknesses; how could it not?"
"No weaknesses, only the king, defeat the king."
Before Billy could ask any more questions, he suddenly heard a deafening sonic boom from the sea. The loud noise lasted only a second, but it seemed to linger in his ears all day.
Then, triggered by something above, the temple trembled for a few seconds, and the various parts of the coral bed scattered and then shattered into pieces.
Immediately following was another sonic boom, and the temple, unable to withstand it, collapsed.
The first collapse blocked the entrance, and the second collapse blocked the only way out.
These two sounds were even more terrifying than those heard in Summer Insect Town.
Earthquake? Undersea volcano? Neither!
When an object moves at speeds close to the speed of sound, it encounters a powerful resistance that causes it to vibrate, a phenomenon known as the sound barrier. When the sound barrier is broken, energy is highly concentrated, resulting in a sonic boom.
Leviathan is fighting!
Billy's ears were ringing, and he couldn't concentrate on anything. All sorts of images flashed through his mind like a fleeting glimpse.
When the noise subsided, there was no exit from the temple.
The priestess who was bewitched was also released from the spell's control ahead of time due to the sonic boom.
It felt insulted, and its angry appearance became increasingly frightening, its mental and physical appearance almost comparable to a monster from a wartime era.
It tried to smash Billy's face with its huge claws, but Billy dodged it and instead broke through the collapse point blocking the exit.
At the same time, the mirror magic on Billis was also affected, revealing his human form.
"Who can quiet it down? Quick! Use the Bewitchment again, anything that can silence it!"
The captain next to him stood there like a goose, craning his neck.
"What are you doing?"
"Hiss, hiss."
"Mission complete! Drop the disguises and run!"
"Hiss, hiss, hiss."
It's as if a clown in his mind is saying to him, "Fool, you've been bewitched too."
Could it be that he was in the same room with two bewitched Nagas the whole time?
Yes, the captain is no longer here, and the male Naga who was mistaken for the captain has now broken free from the spell and revealed his sharp claws.
Billy never expected to be tricked by the captain. He was so angry that he felt dizzy and exhausted. He ran away as if he were drunk, bumping into things here and there.
Finally, as he was about to lose his breath, he lunged towards a beam of light that could completely conquer him.
"Biris, we're surrounded!"
Unexpectedly, Mia was also chasing the light. She keenly shot a light arrow into the sky as a signal to Aisha to enter battle mode.
That illusion returned in the blink of an eye, and before Biris could even distinguish who the enemy was, an ice explosion blasted the fastest attacking Naga into the sky.
"Bilis? What's wrong? Bilis?"
Mia hugged Billis's face tightly and finally shook him awake.
"We've all been misled. That double agent, I'm not finished with him!"
