Chapter 61 Car Accident

"I'm coming over now." Xie Lin's voice was as deep as ice.

Lin Mianmian noticed something was wrong with him and quickly asked, "What's wrong? What happened?"

Xie Lin hung up the phone and forced a smile: "It's nothing, just a small matter. I'm going out for a bit."

Xie Lin went out and waited for the bus at the bus stop.

Then they saw an out-of-control truck rushing toward the side of the road, and Lin Mianmian, who had followed along at some point, was standing on the curb, staring at the truck in disbelief.

"Mianmian!" Xie Lin's pupils shrank, and he rushed over like a madman.

He used all his strength to push Lin Mianmian away violently.

The next second, a sharp pain came from his right leg, and the sound of bones shattering could be clearly heard.

Xie Lin's vision went black as he fell heavily to the ground. Before his consciousness faded, he saw Lin Mianmian sitting not far away, crawling towards him with a pale face, calling his name.

When Xie Lin woke up again, he was lying in a hospital bed with his right leg immobilized in a thick cast and suspended in a traction frame.

Sunlight streamed through the window, but it couldn't warm his cold heart.

"Awake?" Liang Cheng's voice was tired as he sat on the edge of the bed, his eyes filled with heartache.

"The doctor said that even if your right leg heals well, you may still suffer from long-term effects due to a comminuted fracture."

Xie Lin's fingers twitched slightly, his throat so dry he couldn't make a sound. He turned his head to look out the window, his heart filled with desolation.

Before he could even report to the Liang Group, before he could even buy Lin Mianmian steak from the west side of the city, before he could even make a comeback, he became a cripple.

"Where's Mianmian?" Xie Lin's voice was terribly hoarse.

Liang Cheng paused for a moment: "She's been waiting outside, crying all night."

As they were talking, the ward door was pushed open, and Lin Mianmian walked in with red eyes, carrying a bowl of porridge in her hand.

She walked to the bedside and tried to hold Xie Lin's hand, but he instinctively dodged away.

Lin Mianmian's hand froze in mid-air, her eyes reddening even more: "Xie Lin..."

"Go away." Xie Lin's voice was as cold as ice, and he didn't dare to look her in the eye. "I can't give you a future in my current state."

"I don't care!" Lin Mianmian's tears fell. "Xie Lin, what I care about is you, not your leg, not whether you have money or not!"

"You care, and I care!" Xie Lin suddenly raised his voice, his chest heaving violently. "I'm a cripple now! A cripple who can't even support himself! If you stay with me, you'll only suffer!"

Just then, the ward door was pushed open again, and a group of people escorted an elderly man with a cane into the room. Xie Lin's pupils contracted sharply when he saw the old man's face.

It's the Xie family patriarch.

Previously, when the old man was in a coma, Xie Lin broke ties with the Xie family, but he still secretly went to the hospital to see him a few times, only to be stopped at the door by Xie's father each time.

The old man's face was still pale, but his spirits had improved considerably.

He glanced at Xie Lin, his eyes filled with complex emotions, then waved to the people behind him: "Get out."

Everyone looked at each other, and finally Xie's father spoke first: "Dad, you're still not well..."

"Get out!" The old man's voice wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable authority.

Everyone had no choice but to leave, leaving only Xie Lin, Lin Mianmian, the old man, and Liang Cheng in the ward.

The old man walked to the bedside, looked at Xie Lin's legs, then at his pale face, and said with heartache, "My Lin."

Xie Lin's eyes reddened, but he still gritted his teeth and refused to speak.

"Come back to the Xie family with me." The old man reached out his hand, wanting to pat him on the shoulder. "The Xie family's doors will always be open for you."

"I'm not going back." Xie Lin's voice trembled slightly. "When I left, I never intended to go back."

Before the old man could say anything more, the ward door was suddenly pushed open, and Xie's father walked in with a gloomy face, followed by several bodyguards.

“Dad, you’re not feeling well, you should go back and rest.” Xie’s father’s gaze fell on Xie Lin, filled with deep disgust. “This is not a place for you.”

He then turned to look at Lin Mianmian, his eyes icy: "Miss Lin, I advise you to stay away from my son. He's a cripple now, there's no benefit for you to be with him."

"You're talking nonsense!" Lin Mianmian trembled with anger. "Xie Lin is not a cripple!"

Whether someone is a cripple or not is not up to you to decide.

Mr. Xie sneered and gave the bodyguard a look, "Please escort Miss Lin out."

"Who dares!" Liang Cheng suddenly stood up, blocking Lin Mianmian's way. "President Xie, don't go too far!"

Mr. Xie glanced at Liang Cheng, his face growing even uglier: "Young Master Liang, this is a family matter of the Xie family. You'd better not interfere."

"The Xie family's affairs?" Liang Cheng scoffed. "Xie Lin is my brother. His business is my business!"

The two were on the verge of exchanging blows. The old man turned pale with anger and suddenly started coughing.

Looking at everything before him, Xie Lin's last glimmer of hope was completely shattered.

He knew that Xie's father was right.

He's a useless person now, a useless person who can't even protect himself.

He can't give Lin Mianmian happiness; he'll only drag her down.

"Mianmian, you should leave." Xie Lin's voice was terrifyingly calm, with a hint of resolve. "Let's break up."

Lin Mianmian was stunned, staring at him in disbelief: "Xie Lin, what did you say?"

"I said, let's break up." Xie Lin raised his head, his eyes desolate and devoid of any emotion. "I don't love you anymore, you can leave."

"You're lying!" Lin Mianmian's tears fell like a broken string of pearls. "You clearly don't think that way! Xie Lin, look at me!"

Xie Lin turned her head away, biting her lip tightly to keep her tears from falling.

Liang Cheng looked at him, feeling a pang of sadness, but didn't know what to say.

A satisfied smile appeared on Xie's father's face as he waved to the bodyguard: "Send Miss Lin out."

The bodyguard stepped forward and took Lin Mianmian's arm.

Lin Mianmian struggled desperately, calling out Xie Lin's name in a heartbreakingly shrill voice.

The moment the ward door closed, Xie Lin's tears finally fell.

The old man looked at him, sighed, and turned to leave the ward.

Liang Cheng patted his shoulder, wanting to say something, but in the end it just turned into a sigh.

Xie Lin was the only one left in the ward.

He looked out the window at the sky; the sunlight was dazzling, yet it couldn't penetrate the corners of his heart.

He remembered Lin Mianmian's smile, the warm water she handed him, and her words, "Things will get better and better."

Yes, things will get better.

But there was no future for them.

Xie Lin slowly closed his eyes, a tear sliding down his cheek and soaking his pillowcase.
