Since her son and daughter-in-law had just arrived and she noticed they hadn't brought much luggage yesterday, Qin Shuman took half a day off and asked Li Qinwu to arrange a car to take Fang Zhiwu, his wife, and their child to the department store in the city to buy some new clothes.

Qin Shuman left work early at noon and went to the cafeteria to get her lunch in an aluminum lunchbox.

"Zhiwu, Erni, dinner is ready."

She pushed open the door carrying a lunchbox and saw that the house was in a mess.

The neatly arranged furniture had been moved, the side cabinet door was open, and the snacks inside were scattered all over the floor. Candy wrappers and rice puff wrappers were carelessly thrown on the ground, and Tiger was sitting on the floor hugging a jar of cookies, his face covered in crumbs.

Qin Shuman was taken aback, but she didn't think it was a big deal to scold the child over such a trivial matter.

"Zhiwu, quickly call your wife to eat."

Fang Zhiwu sat blankly under a tree in the yard. When Qin Shuman returned, he nodded and greeted her, but didn't say anything more.

He only got up and walked towards the bedroom when he heard Qin Shuman call him.

"Erni, get up and eat."

Erni was full of energy, rummaging through drawers and cupboards in Qin Shuman's house all morning. She only pretended to have a headache and went back to her bedroom to lie down when it was time for lunch.

She only came out slowly, holding her head, after hearing Fang Zhiwu call her.

"Mom, don't mind me. I was probably dizzy from the car ride yesterday, so I went to bed for a while. How did that make me miss lunch?"

"Mom, you sit and rest. I'll go cook dinner now."

Qin Shuman really couldn't like this Erni. Her little schemes were written all over her face, yet she thought she was being clever.

"Alright, I've brought the food back. Go to the kitchen and get the bowls and chopsticks. After you eat, I'll take you to the city to buy some things."

Erni immediately became interested when she heard about buying things.

The old woman's money was better spent than wasted; she not only wanted to spend it, but to spend it lavishly, since all the money in her parents-in-law's house would eventually belong to Fang Zhiwu, and what belonged to Fang Zhiwu would be hers.

"Okay, I'll go get the bowls and chopsticks."

After the family of four finished lunch, Qin Shuman put the lunchbox and bowls back into the kitchen and saw that the bowls and chopsticks from breakfast were still soaking in the sink, and they had turned sour in the middle of summer.

She frowned. "Erni, you need to wash your dishes after meals. It's summer now, and leaving leftovers like this will attract mice and insects."

Erni rolled her eyes in the living room.

"Do you really treat me like a servant?"

After whispering this sentence, she kicked Fang Zhiwu.

"Zhiwu, your mother is talking to you, did you hear her? After you finish eating, hurry up and wash the dishes, so that no one will complain."

Fang Zhiwu was used to being well-behaved at his parents-in-law's house. He would do whatever Erni asked him to do, and he got up from the stool and went to the kitchen.

"Mom, leave it there and I'll wash it."

Qin Shuman had heard Erni's words. Since the daughter-in-law had come to her mother-in-law's house to establish her authority, Qin Shuman naturally wouldn't indulge her.

Fang Zhiwu walked to the sink to fill it with water, and Qin Shuman handed him the loofah sponge.

"After washing, put the dishes and chopsticks on that rack to drain."

Erni was sitting in the living room when she saw that Fang Zhiwu hadn't come in, but Qin Shuman had. She was somewhat dissatisfied.

What was that old woman thinking? Making her own son wash the dishes?

Qin Shuman picked up a broom and started sweeping the floor.

Only one morning has passed, and the house is so dirty that it's almost impossible to walk in.

Tiger Head, dressed in dirty clothes, sat on the bed and rolled around on it without even taking off his shoes, as if Erni didn't see him.
