Chapter 22: A Bountiful Harvest

He Caiwei looked at the grain storage bins. They were quite large. If she used her mind, she could probably only put one in at a time and would have to rest. But if she touched them with her hands, she could. So she reached out and placed her hand on the bin closest to her, and then activated her mind. Soon, she put the entire grain bin into her space.
After careful consideration, I found that it was easier to collect them by hand. Fortunately, there were only six buckets of this size, so we finished collecting them quickly.
After they finished collecting the goods, they found a body hidden at the back of the warehouse. It had been dead for some time, but the body was still relatively well-preserved, probably because part of the warehouse was underground.
He Caiwei was frightened, but her mother quickly covered her eyes: "Don't look, don't be afraid. Uncle Chen is a kind old man. Let's take the things out first and then find a place to bury him." He Yuping never expected that Master Qu would be so heartless as to just leave the person here like this.
"Mother, I'm not afraid. Let's hurry and find the things. It's almost dawn outside." He Caiwei really felt tired. She had been running around since 9 p.m. last night, and the sky outside was already beginning to lighten.
To avoid being discovered, the mother and daughter sought out shadowy places when they first left the courtyard, covering themselves up tightly, afraid of being found out by accident.
He Yuping quickly found the secret room that Master Qu had mentioned. Actually, it wasn't really a secret room, just a hidden compartment. However, this hidden compartment was quite large, and its mechanism was at the very back, under the granary.
The mother and daughter opened the hidden compartment and took out six boxes of large yellow croakers and two boxes of silver dollars. He Caiwei felt that this place was just right for Chen Bo's body, so after the mother and daughter took the things, they were fully armed and went through a lot of trouble to put the old man's body into the hidden compartment, which could be considered as letting the old man rest in peace.
Looking at the six boxes of large yellow croakers and two boxes of silver dollars that had been added to the space, He Caiwei's eyes crinkled with a smile. Today was another day full of harvest.
After the mother and daughter finished packing and changing their clothes, they prepared to leave. It was already getting light outside, around 5 a.m.
The mother and daughter had just stepped out of the warehouse when He Caiwei heard the sound of a car. She quickly turned around, closed the gate, locked it again, cleaned up their footprints, and then walked to the side, pulling her mother back into her spatial dimension.
He Yuping was still a little dazed when she found herself back in the familiar living room. She quickly took off her dirty shoes, changed her clothes, and then returned to the living room.
"What's going on? Didn't we say we were going out?"
"I heard the sound of cars outside. It looks like they're heading towards this warehouse," He Caiwei whispered to her mother while observing the situation outside.
"What? No, isn't this place known only to Uncle Chen and your father? Uncle Chen is dead, and your father ran away. How could anyone else know about this place, especially driving here at a time like this? It's obvious they know there's something here. Daughter, take a closer look and see who it is." Although He Yuping knew that Master Qu was cowardly and a womanizer, she thought that such an important matter shouldn't be spread around.
When He Caiwei saw the leader, she knew it wasn't too surprising that the matter had been leaked. After all, her father trusted this Steward Hu a lot and entrusted many things to him. It shouldn't be difficult for Steward Hu to find out about the granary.
"Mother, the people who came outside are Steward Hu and several tall men. They seem to know there is grain here, as they are carrying quite a few grain sacks." He Caiwei told her mother what was happening outside.
Upon hearing that it was Butler Hu, He Yuping only frowned slightly before sitting back down on the sofa in the living room.
"That guy is really persistent. He doesn't dare to take anything from the open warehouses, but keeps picking at these hidden ones hoping to snag a bargain. Luckily, we were quick enough, otherwise that shameless guy would have gotten away with it. Girl, let's rest for a day and then leave, regardless of whether we can get train tickets. If we really can't get them, then we'll take a horse-drawn carriage, or like you said, we can just walk. When it's nighttime and nobody's around, we'll get a carriage and drive it out." He Yuping felt that Butler Hu was a venomous snake, and she didn't want to be targeted. She wanted to leave this place as soon as possible for peace of mind.
"Alright, but we can't take this car out again tonight. If someone sees it, it'll be hard to explain." He Caiwei didn't want to be watched all the time, so she immediately agreed when her mother suggested it. This way, she could walk during the day and drive at night, or find a place to rest during the day.
After the mother and daughter finished their conversation, they happily went to the kitchen to eat, completely ignoring the fact that outside, Butler Hu was so angry that he vomited blood because he couldn't find something, and all the people he brought with him were terrified.
They didn't even bother with the grain bags they brought; they just threw them on the ground. Several people hurriedly carried Steward Hu out of the empty warehouse.
Only after hearing the car drive away did He Caiwei and her mother come out of the space. Looking at the grain bags left on the ground, they smiled and picked them up as well.
She was still worried about not having bags to store her food, but they were so kind that they actually brought her bags.
If Butler Hu knew what she was thinking, he would definitely be furious.
Seeing that it was almost dawn outside, He Yuping quickly took her daughter and ran all the way, taking three hours to reach Uncle Lin's place.
They had just knocked on the door when Uncle Lin's wife came to open it; she looked like she was about to go out.
"Oh, Yuping's here! Come inside quickly, your uncle said he's coming to see you later." The auntie reached out and pulled the mother and daughter into the house before closing the door.
Quietly leading the person into the main room, she began to speak: "Your uncle is taking people to the housing management office to transfer the property right now. He was originally planning to come and see you later, but he hasn't come over for so many days, and he's worried."
“Auntie, we have to leave today, whether we get train tickets or not. It seems Butler Hu has spotted us; he's been lurking at the gate of our courtyard for the past few days. I'm afraid of being discovered, so we haven't left the house for several days. I don't want to have anything to do with them anymore, so I came to tell my uncle today that I'm taking Guai Guai and leaving first.” He Yuping said helplessly. She had originally planned to buy train tickets to lessen her daughter's suffering, but after so many days of trying, it was impossible. Even if they managed to get tickets, there was nothing they could do; they were destined not to be able to board the train.
"Train tickets are so hard to get these days. I heard they're all being used to transport supplies. To ensure the safety of those supplies, all the people in front are escorts. So ordinary people like us can't buy train tickets at all." Aunt Lin was also very helpless. Her husband had been going to the train station every day recently, asking acquaintances and delivering things, but he still couldn't get a train ticket.
After sending a lot of supplies, we found out that these trains are now being used to transport supplies to the army, and there's nothing for ordinary people to do with them. So don't expect to get a train ticket anytime soon.
