The courtyard gate clicked shut from the inside.

The sound of the bolt falling was cold and hard, striking Yu Hao's heart like a hammer blow.

Yan Yu turned and went back into the house.

The main room was warm and filled with the spicy aroma of ginger soup.

Ruan Tang sat on the warm edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), holding a cup of ginger tea, her big, watery almond-shaped eyes blinking, full of undisguised curiosity.

The man's chilling aura, capable of freezing a person to death, vanished completely the moment he stepped across the threshold.

"Brother," she called softly.

Yan Yu strode over, took the teacup from her hand that was no longer hot, and casually placed it on the kang table.

He sat down next to her, and with a long arm, pulled her firmly into his embrace.

"Are you cold?" He looked down, his voice a little hoarse.

Ruan Tang shook her head, rubbing her little head against his strong, warm chest, her nose filled with his clean and pleasant scent.

She is not cold.

Her curiosity was driving her crazy.

She tilted her head up, rested her chin on his chest, and looked at him expectantly: "What did you say to him before?"

"Those words of warning he received before leaving the capital."

She clearly remembered Yu Hao's silly look before he was thrown out, as if he didn't know who he was or where he was.

He probably didn't listen to a single word of Yan Yu's warning.

Yan Yu looked at the gossipy glint in the little girl's eyes in his arms, and the taut line at the corner of his mouth finally relaxed a bit.

The last bit of frost on his face melted away completely under the gaze of those eyes.

"Want to know?"

He lowered his head, a hint of amusement in his voice.

Ruan Tang nodded repeatedly.

Yan Yu's smile deepened, and he deliberately lowered his body, his forehead almost touching hers, his hot breath hitting her face.

Give me a kiss.

"I'll tell you after we kiss."

His tone was domineering yet matter-of-fact.

Ruan Tang's face flushed red instantly, and heat rose from the base of her neck to her earlobes.

This man always tries to take advantage of any opportunity.

But she just happens to fall for that.

She sat up slightly, her two soft little hands hooking around his strong neck, and with a gentle pull, she lowered his head even further.

She tiptoed and pressed her soft, warm lips precisely onto his slightly cool, thin lips.

I wanted to back away after just one touch.

But Yan Yu suddenly tightened his arms, pulling her roughly into his embrace, and with his other large hand, he gripped the back of her head, not allowing her to retreat.

The kiss deepened instantly.

He only released her when Ruan Tang was completely out of breath, his eyes brimming with satisfaction.

"Okay," she said breathlessly, her voice sweet and soft, "Brother, tell me quickly."

"I told him that before doing anything, he should think carefully about whether he can bear the consequences."

Yan Yu's voice was deep and clear, and he spoke only to her.

"If you can't handle the responsibility, don't do it."

"Obviously, he didn't remember."

Ruan Tang blinked. These words sounded simple, but the logic behind them was chilling.

She thought about it again and realized that something was wrong.

Ruan Tang still remembers Yu Hao's confident shout from outside the door.

She shook her head, a sly glint in her eyes: "Brother, I think he might have remembered it."

"Um?"

“He was shouting outside just now, ‘Isn’t it you who’s here?’” Ruan Tang mimicked Yu Hao’s tone, then analyzed in a serious tone, “He feels that even if the sky falls, you’ll hold it up, and you can cover for him no matter what trouble he gets into. With you by his side, he’s not afraid of any consequences.”

Upon hearing this, Yan Yu's expression, which had just softened, instantly turned cold again.

The man lowered his head and kissed her soft, pink cheek heavily, with a hint of punishment in his voice.
