Although Shu Ying had a smile on her face, the warmth in her eyes was gone.
Since it was Huang Meiling who came to her, she should give her some face. But Ding Rumei was taking advantage of her kindness, so she couldn't blame her for being ruthless.
"In addition, I see a lot of bad habits on you, so please remember to wash your hands before touching the children. You can call me fussy or pretentious, but when you come to my house, you have to abide by my rules."
She looked at Song Zhaodi gently, as if to comfort her: "Before you came, it was Sister Song who took care of the house. She is no different from my own sister. She is down-to-earth and capable, and she takes good care of the children. You came here to help her."
Ding Rumei choked on her water. She looked at Shu Ying, who was young and spoke softly, and couldn't tell that she had a bad temper.
"Sister-in-law, I'm not trying to criticize you, but the children in your city are raised too delicately. They're more likely to get sick. Look at your son, he's so fair and clean, he doesn't look like a boy at all!"
“You city folks only have two kids and you need to ask for help. In our countryside, which family doesn’t have five or six children? They’re born crawling all over the place. The adults in the family all have to go to the fields. Where do they have time to take care of them? In the end, they still grow up like weeds.”
She put her legs up on the sofa, dismissing Shu Ying's words: "Look at your son, he has no manliness at all. Let me tell you, a doting mother spoils her son. Even though you say this is your home, isn't the house still my brother's? I'm his sister, we're family. If it weren't for my brother, would you be living in such a nice house?"
She crossed her legs so high they were practically pointing to the sky: "The most valuable thing about a person is to know their own limitations. Don't think that just because you gave birth to two children you've become a hero of the Xie family."
She is Xie Zhiyan's older sister. Even if they are distant relatives, they are still family. This house was earned by Xie Zhiyan through hard work, so it belongs to her.
"Also, I'm not a nanny, I'm just here to help. I'm known for being very capable in my hometown. If my aunt hadn't spoken highly of me, I wouldn't have come no matter what, given that you have two kids."
They even said it's unhygienic to touch a child without washing your hands. Doesn't everyone in the countryside do that? That's a living, breathing child, not an object. Do you think touching it will break it?
Shu Ying laughed in exasperation. She had seen people who didn't know their own brains before, but this was the first time she had seen someone who didn't know their own brains and couldn't even see things clearly. She had certainly learned something new today.
“Cousin Ding, since you’re here to help, you probably don’t need to be paid, right? Then I’ll write a letter to my mother-in-law now to tell her that you don’t need to be paid. Also, I don’t need any help here. You can just go back to where you came from, and I’ll pay for your train ticket.”
Ding Rumei immediately stood up from the sofa, looking unwilling: "I was invited by your mother-in-law, how dare you kick me out?"
She met Shu Ying's gaze, and seeing that Xie Zhiyan hadn't returned and that there was no one at home to back her up, she immediately put on a smiling face.
"Sister-in-law, look at how serious you are. I was just joking with you. If you don't like it, just say so. I know you city people are particular and have many rules. I won't cause you any trouble."
Although Shu Ying felt uncomfortable, she didn't mean to let her leave. She watched as the girl went down the steps and glanced at Song Zhaodi beside her.
Ding Rumei treated this place as her own territory, and she couldn't hide anything on her face. Her pointing and gesturing around made Song Zhaodi's blood pressure rise.
She turned her head away, indignantly saying, "They're really a disgrace to us country folk."
Shu Ying held her hand and looked at Ding Rumei, who was looking around. It was her first time in the city, and she found everything strange and wonderful.
"Sister Song, you should rest well these days. Don't pay attention to what she says. Just let her take charge of things at home."
Song Zhaodi was a little worried. This person didn't seem reliable. There were two children at home. If she let her act recklessly and caused more trouble, wouldn't that be even more troublesome?
“Yingying, I know you don’t want to embarrass your mother-in-law, but she’s really not good at housework. I’m not trying to sow discord between you two, but she doesn’t care about the child at all. It’s one thing if the child gets hurt, but what if there are other problems? Where will you go to seek justice?”
Although she was an outsider, she had no ulterior motives in this family; she simply hoped that Shuying would have a better life.
“The children will be going to school soon. You just need to keep an eye on them after school. Don’t worry about anything else. I want to see what she’s up to.”
Huang Meiling was very busy with work, and Shu Ying didn't want to let these trivial matters distract her.
“My mother-in-law saw how hard I was working and invited her over with good intentions. Maybe she was also scammed, but since she’s already been sent over and has received a month’s wages, we can’t let her get away with it for nothing.”
Even if the couple does have some savings, that money doesn't grow on trees, so if it's going to be spent, it should be spent wisely.
Ding Rumei was somewhat unwilling. The two of them were whispering to each other in front of her, and she didn't know what they were saying. City people aren't very polite, are they?
She glanced at Shu Ying with some disdain. She had heard about Shu Ying's family background back when Xie Zhiyan got married; they were said to be from a scholarly family.
Seeing Shuying's behavior now, I feel that she is just like a capitalist, only good at exploiting people.
She disliked Shuying, and consequently, she disliked both of her children as well.
Looking at Yueyue and Yangyang playing in the water in the yard, she looked at Song Zhaodi.
