“You…” Zheng Feng’s chest heaved violently. He never imagined that the daughter he had raised with all his heart would think of him this way. These words chilled him to the bone more than any accusation.

He thought she would regret it, would reflect on it, even if only a little.

But no.

She felt only resentment and hatred, blaming everyone else for her mistakes.

Zheng Feng's lips moved slightly, but he ultimately said nothing. The last bit of warmth in his eyes also died out.

He slowly turned around, his back resolute, and never looked back.

"Zheng Feng! You hypocrite! You're biased! You'll get your comeuppance!" Zheng Nana's curses rang out behind her, growing sharper and more frantic, until finally turning into desperate sobs.

Zheng Feng's steps did not falter for a moment.

He knew that from this moment on, he had completely lost his daughter.

Not long after, Zheng Nana's verdict was issued.

Zheng Nana was sentenced to 30 years in prison for intentional homicide.

By the time she gets out, she will be fifty years old.

This life is over.

The people in the military family compound sighed with regret, but no one sympathized with Zheng Nana.

After all, this is her retribution.

Su Wantang stayed in the hospital for a week and basically recovered. On the day of her discharge, Lu Linchuan completed all the formalities, went straight to her bedside, and, to Su Wantang's astonishment, bent down and picked her up in his arms.

"Hey! What are you doing?" Su Wantang was startled and instinctively hugged his neck, her cheeks instantly turning red. "So many people are watching, put me down quickly."

People came and went in the hospital corridor, and many cast curious glances their way.

Lu Linchuan seemed not to hear her, tightening his arms around her and whispering in her ear, "You're a priority for protection now, you can't get tired. Be good, I'll carry you home."

His voice was deep and gentle, yet carried an undeniable domineering authority. Su Wantang's heart skipped a beat, and her struggle weakened. She buried her face in his firm chest, feeling only the pleasant scent of soap emanating from him, and a comforting aroma.

From the hospital to the military dependents' compound, Lu Linchuan carried her the entire way. He walked steadily, step by step, as if he were holding the most precious treasure in the world.

When they got home, he carefully placed her on the bed, then knelt down to take off her shoes and cover her with a blanket.

"Are you hungry? What would you like to eat? I'll make it." He looked at her, his eyes focused and gentle.

Su Wantang shook her head and took his hand. "I'm not hungry, just talk to me."

Lu Linchuan sat down on the edge of the bed, took her soft little hand in his, and kissed it. "Okay, I'll do whatever you say."

The sunlight streaming through the window was perfect, bathing the two of them in warmth. Looking at his handsome profile, Su Wantang felt her heart overflow with happiness.

It's great to be home.

One month later.

The early autumn sun was gentle and not scorching, and the vegetable garden in Su Wantang's courtyard was a delightful green.

Nourished by the spiritual spring water, the vegetables, tomatoes, and cucumbers grew exceptionally lush and vibrant. The vegetables were a deep, glistening green with thick, fleshy leaves; the tomatoes were a bright red, hanging from the vines like little lanterns; and the cucumbers, with their blossoms and prickly tips, looked crisp and delicious.
