Zheng Nana's intentional assault spread like wildfire throughout the entire military compound overnight.

This was no minor squabble; it was a full-blown murder plot, targeting Lu Linchuan's beloved wife. The news caused an uproar throughout the entire compound.

The performing arts troupe reacted the fastest, issuing a document almost immediately, expelling Zheng Nana from the troupe on the grounds of "misconduct and poor conduct." This once-enviable, secure job was shattered completely.

The women in the compound gathered by the well or in front of their own homes, chatting in twos and threes.

"Have you heard? That Nana from the Zheng family is so vicious! Not only did she put pebbles in front of Tang's house to try and kill the baby in Tang's belly, but she was also the one who made Tang's pregnancy test report show that the fetus was deformed!"

"Absolutely! Wan Tang is pregnant, how could she do that? That's so vicious! I never knew she was like that before!"

"Jealousy, of course! She's liked Commander Lu since she was little, how could she stand seeing him treat Wan Tang so well?" A well-informed sister-in-law lowered her voice. "I heard that the other day Commander Lu carried Wan Tang to the hospital, his eyes were so red, like he wanted to kill someone. Zheng Nana has completely offended the Lu family this time."

"Serves him right! People like him should be sent to a labor camp!"

In an instant, Zheng Nana became the object of everyone's contempt, and even the Zheng family felt ashamed. In the past, those words praising Zheng Nana for her talent and beauty were now turned into "You can know a person's face but not their heart" and "What a waste of Political Commissar Zheng's many years of training."

...

In the dark and damp detention center, Zheng Nana, dressed in prison clothes with disheveled hair, had long lost her former radiance.

When she saw Zheng Feng walk in, she seemed to grasp at a last straw, and frantically rushed to the iron bars, gripping the cold metal bars tightly with both hands.

"Dad! Dad! You've come to save me, haven't you? Tell them I didn't mean it, I was just confused for a moment! Please get me out of here!" Her voice was hoarse, choked with sobs, and her eyes were full of pleading.

Zheng Feng was dressed in a neat military uniform, the starlight on his shoulders clashing with the gloom of the place. He looked at the daughter he had raised for over a decade; her once charming and lovely face was now nothing but twisted resentment and madness.

He didn't approach, but stood at a distance, looking at her with deep sorrow. "Nana, you did something wrong, and you have to take responsibility for your actions."

His voice was calm, yet it was like a bucket of ice water poured over Zheng Nana's heart.

The pleading look on her face froze instantly, then turned into a sharp, incredulous expression. "Take responsibility? What responsibility do I have? Su Wantang is perfectly fine! I'm locked up here, my whole life is ruined! And now you're telling me I have to take responsibility?"

"You almost killed three people. You also tampered with the pregnancy test reports. You deliberately tried to kill them!" Zheng Feng's brows furrowed, his tone stern.

"So what!" Zheng Nana screamed hysterically, shaking the iron bars violently with a piercing clang. "What is Su Wantang anyway! She stole everything from me! Now even you don't want me anymore? Dad, I'm your daughter!"

"Calm down!"

"I can't calm down!" Zheng Nana's tears mingled with resentment as she glared at Zheng Feng, each word like a poisoned nail, "I understand... I understand! Because Zheng Juan is back, she's your biological daughter, so you don't care about my life or death, right? You're the family! What am I? I'm just a burden you abandoned!"
