The surgery lasted a full three hours.
The operating room door was pushed open, and a doctor in a white coat and a sterile mask walked out of the operating room.
Su Wantang quickly got up to greet him, "Doctor, how is my sister?"
"The surgery was successful. You just need to rest well during this period," the doctor said.
"That's good, thank you, doctor." Su Wantang nodded gratefully at the doctor.
Wei Juan was then transferred to a ward.
The ward that Su Wantang booked for her was the best ward in the entire hospital.
Wei Juan, dressed in a blue and white striped hospital gown, lay on the hospital bed, anxiously looking around at her surroundings. "Sister... this nice hospital room must have cost you a lot of money, right?"
"It didn't cost much. Don't worry, I have money." Su Wantang chuckled as she took an orange from the fruit basket she had just bought, peeled it, and handed the orange flesh to Wei Juan.
"Have an orange," Su Wantang said with a smile, leaning forward as she sat in front of Wei Juan's hospital bed.
Wei Juan took the orange segment, put it in her mouth and took a small bite. The sweet and sour taste spread across her taste buds. She smiled and said, "Thank you, sister. It's delicious. Very sweet."
"I'm glad you like it," Su Wantang said. She tore off the white stems from the remaining orange segments and handed them to Wei Juan. "What do you want to eat? I'll go buy it for you."
“No need for that trouble…” Wei Juan quickly grasped Su Wantang’s hand, feeling increasingly guilty and uneasy.
"I've already told you, you don't need to be so polite with me. How much could a meal cost? Just put it on the tab and pay me back when you're able to earn money later." Su Wantang glared at her, feigning anger.
"Okay." Wei Juan was finally relieved. "I can eat anything."
"Do you have any dietary restrictions? For example, can't you eat cilantro or green onions?"
“I don’t have any dietary restrictions,” Wei Juan shook her head.
"Okay, wait for me, I'll be right back." Su Wantang left the ward and headed towards the hospital's restaurant.
The hospital has a restaurant where patients and staff eat, and the food selection is quite comprehensive. Su Wantang got a yam and pork rib soup, a plate of scrambled eggs with tomatoes, a bowl of millet porridge, and a small portion of rice. Finally, she carried the lunchbox back to her ward.
"Take a look at these, do you like them?" Su Wantang handed the lunchbox to the table in front of Wei Juan's hospital bed.
"I really like it, thank you, sister." Wei Juan held her chopsticks, her clear eyes looking at Su Wantang. "Sister, have you eaten? If not, let's eat together."
"I've already eaten. You can eat." Su Wantang smiled gently.
"Mmm." Wei Juan had been starving for four whole days and was extremely weak. She ate her food in big mouthfuls, wolfing it down, and tears streamed down her face, dripping into the millet porridge in front of her.
"Eat slowly, no one's going to take it from you." Su Wantang patted her back gently. "Don't choke."
Wei Juan choked back tears as she ate, "Sister, you're so kind..."
"Let's eat first, eat first, and then we can talk," Su Wantang said.
The food in the lunchbox was quickly eaten clean.
Wei Juan even used chopsticks to put the last grain of rice into her mouth.
"Sister, how much did all of this cost in total?" Wei Juan asked, pursing her lips.
"Not counting your surgery fee and hospitalization fee, it's 400 yuan in total," Su Wantang said.
