Chapter 77 Intentionally Revealing Jiang Ruan's Identity
The next day when she arrived at the company, she told the people in her department about it. Besides herself, she needed four more people, and she also showed them the script she had written.
As she expected, things turned out as she predicted.
The four people were quickly assembled, and Bai Jian handed over the program list.
After finishing her free time, she started working. During that time, she went to the restroom and ran into Liang Xi as she went out to wash her hands.
"Ruan Ruan," Liang Qi greeted her.
Jiang Ruan nodded and greeted her.
Liang Qi moved a little closer to her and looked at her reflection in the mirror, gossiping, "I ate some melon when I got home yesterday."
Jiang Ruan spoke earnestly, but no one caught the unspoken meaning in her words: "Is it sweet or not?"
"It's not a watermelon." Liang Qi knew she had misunderstood. She looked around to make sure no one was there before whispering, "It's Secretary Su's watermelon."
Jiang Ruan paused for a moment.
Almost instantly, she felt a sense of wariness towards her.
Su Zhu had told her: Be careful of people who use other people's secrets to make friends.
"Do you know what kind of relationship Secretary Su has with President Huo?" Liang Xi asked in a very low voice.
Jiang Ruan tore off a piece of paper to wipe her hands, casually said something, and prepared to leave: "The relationship between the secretary and the president is common knowledge in the entire department."
“I’m referring to a personal relationship,” Liang Qi said calmly, stopping her.
Jiang Ruan: "I don't know."
Before Liang Xi could say anything more, she turned and walked outside. After returning to her seat, she focused on her work as if nothing had happened.
During this time, Liang Qi tried to gossip with her several times, but Jiang Ruan declined each time, saying she was too busy.
Liang Qi sensed her aloofness. At lunchtime, she deliberately waited a while before going to eat, just wanting to say a few more words to Jiang Ruan: "Jiang Ruan, did I do something to upset you?"
"Huh?" Jiang Ruan looked bewildered.
“You barely responded to me when I talked to you today,” Liang Qi said with some difficulty. “I’m a bit of a scatterbrain sometimes and I don’t know my limits when I speak. If I accidentally said something that upset you, please don’t take it to heart.”
If it were the old Jiang Ruan, she wouldn't have paid any attention to those unpleasant-sounding words.
But now that I'm in the workplace, I can't be willful.
She pursed her slightly red lips, and what she said was quite different from her usual personality: "You mean this?"
Liang Qi nodded: "Mm."
“You keep telling me gossip about so-and-so,” Jiang Ruan deliberately avoided mentioning the name, “but this is a company, with people coming and going, and who knows where someone might overhear it.”
"Then I'll gossip with you after get off work," Liang Qi changed her attitude again.
"Okay," Jiang Ruan replied casually. "I'll tell you when I have time."
Liang Qi nodded: "Okay."
Jiang Ruan nodded and went to the hospital.
Unbeknownst to her, no sooner had she left than Su An walked out of the conference room next door.
Liang Qi was startled when she saw her, but forced a smile and greeted her: "Secretary Su."
"What gossip were you talking about with Ruan Ruan just now?" Su Anran smiled gently, giving off a very approachable vibe. "Can you tell me about it too?"
Liang Qi's red lips parted slightly: "Secretary Su..."
Su Anran: "Could it be my gossip?"
“Of course not,” Liang Qi replied immediately.
"I was just kidding." Su Anran said naturally, glancing in the direction Jiang Ruan had left. "Ruan Ruan is rather easygoing. If she ever has a disagreement with you, don't hold it against her. She's been pampered since she was a child and doesn't know anything about social etiquette."
"Is Jiang Ruan from a well-off family?" Liang Qi asked.
Su Anran said deliberately, "Things used to be great, but things didn't go so well after the family went bankrupt."
Liang Qi suddenly realized.
When she first met Jiang Ruan, she felt that Jiang Ruan must have been raised in a wealthy family. Her skin was fair and rosy, she had a great temperament, and she seemed to take everything lightly.
"Don't gossip at the company anymore." Su Anran said after seeing that she had thought it through. "Ruan Ruan's words are not without reason."
"Okay." Liang Qi nodded.
Jiang Ruan had no idea that Su Anran had exposed her family.
After returning from the hospital, she noticed that Liang Xi's gaze towards her had become somewhat strange, but she was too absorbed in her work to pay much attention to it.
Bai Jian, however, told her amidst her busy schedule, "Choose half a day for the get-together."
Jiang Ruan: "?"
Bai Jian: "We have department dinners, and we also have dinners when new colleagues join."
"Can we not go?" Jiang Ruan already had a bad memory of the last meal together.
"Yes," Bai Jian said truthfully. "But we can take half a day off for the dinner party, and the company will cover the expenses. They were asking me before when you would be free."
Jiang remained silent.
It sounds like everyone wants to get together.
She was sure they weren't asking because they were looking forward to the dinner party, but because they were looking forward to the half-day off that came with it.
Sometimes, too much company benefit isn't a good thing for her.
"If you really don't want to, I'll refuse on the grounds that the mission is too demanding." Bai Jian could see her difficulty and struggle, guessing that something had happened when they went out to eat last time. "They won't say anything."
A glint flashed in Jiang Ruan's eyes: "Then I'll have to trouble Sister Bai Jian."
Besides being her team leader, Bai Jian was also one of the main people in charge of the project, and everyone listened to her.
But things didn't go as planned.
Bai Jian had just told her about this when Su Anran sent a notification in the group chat, saying that considering the anniversary celebration would be held next Wednesday, Monday and Tuesday would be holidays, with departmental team building on Monday and a departmental welcome dinner on Tuesday.
The article ended with the line: "We rented a luxury villa to hold the event."
Seeing these messages.
The group was buzzing with excited replies.
Nothing is happier than not having to go to work.
Jiang Ruan felt a sense of despair. If it weren't for her reason holding her back, she would have really wanted to submit a leave application right away.
"I'm giving everyone a five-day break after get off work today. Who else wants that?"
"Is this Manager Tan's idea, or President Huo's idea?"
"Don't get too excited. If you don't meet this week's targets, you'll be getting a scolding in the meeting later."
Amidst a mix of emotions, it was Friday afternoon, time for the meeting.
Everyone in the department was sitting in the conference room. At 3:30, Huo Zhizhou walked in from outside. Even though they had known each other for several days, everyone was still a little intimidated every time they saw him.
Jiang Ruan was holding her breath.
Huo Zhizhou glanced at her as he entered.
"No reports today." Su Anran, standing next to him, conveyed the message for him. "Just tell me the schedule for next week: no work from Monday to Wednesday, but no leave is allowed..."
Su Anran gave many instructions.
But in general, there are only a few points: do not take leave, follow instructions, and pay attention to safety.
"The meeting is adjourned." Huo Zhizhou spoke after Su Anran finished speaking, his voice slightly cool, his gaze falling on Jiang Ruan, "Jiang Ruan, please stay behind."
Jiang Ruan paused in her action of picking up the notebook.
Everyone else glanced at her as well.
