Side Story: Deadly Trap
The sky was just beginning to brighten.
The morning mist enveloped the entire valley, making visibility very low.
There was already movement in Qin Feng's camp. Just as Lu Chen had predicted, he was preparing to divide his forces.
Hidden in a crevice in the rocks, Lu Chen was carefully cleaning the captured sniper rifle. After a night's rest, he had recovered much of his strength. Wang Lei leaned against the side, holding two automatic rifles in his arms, nervously watching the outside world.
Zhang Mang remained unconscious. Lu Chen examined him again last night; his injuries hadn't worsened, but there were no signs of improvement either, and his breathing remained weak.
"Brother Chen, it looks like they're about to make a move," Wang Lei said in a low voice.
Through the scope, Lu Chen could clearly see Qin Feng assembling the team, seemingly giving orders. They split into two groups: one group of about six or seven men, personally led by Qin Feng, was well-equipped and appeared to be the main force preparing to depart. The other group consisted of only three men, who stayed behind to guard the camp.
"The opportunity has arrived." A smile curved Lu Chen's lips.
"Shall we make our move now?" Wang Lei asked, somewhat excited.
"No rush." Lu Chen shook his head. "Let's wait until they leave before we make our move. It's easier to fight three than ten."
His plan was simple, yet risky.
After Qin Feng's main force left, he and Wang Lei joined forces and quickly eliminated the three men left behind. Then, they occupied Qin Feng's camp and used the supplies and terrain there to ambush Qin Feng as he returned.
This is a classic "cuckoo in the nest" scheme.
However, the risks involved are equally enormous. There are only two of them, and if they cannot finish the battle quickly, or if Qin Feng returns ahead of schedule, they will be surrounded.
"Wang Lei, listen to my orders later." Lu Chen's tone was unusually calm. "I'll use the sniper rifle to take out the one who's on lookout at the highest point. As soon as the shot is fired, you rush out as fast as you can and use your two guns to create suppressive fire and draw the attention of the other two."
"If I rush out, won't I become a sitting duck?" Wang Lei was taken aback.
“You don’t need to hit them, just make sure they can’t lift their heads. I’ll take the opportunity to move and take them out from the side,” Lu Chen explained. “This is our only chance. Are you scared?”
Wang Lei looked at Lu Chen and grinned, "What's there to be afraid of! So what if I'm a sitting duck? I'll take it! But Brother Chen, is your sniper rifle reliable? Don't let your hand slip and sell me out."
"Don't worry." Lu Chen patted the sniper rifle in his hand. "I haven't forgotten everything my dad taught me."
The two fell silent, waiting for their chance.
Soon, Qin Feng led his main force away from the camp and disappeared into the morning mist on the other side of the valley.
Only three team members remained on the cliff. One was on guard with binoculars from the highest post, while the other two were in the camp, seemingly organizing their equipment.
"Now!"
Lu Chen took a deep breath and steadily aimed the crosshairs at the sentry at the highest point.
His heartbeat became unusually steady at that moment. All the sounds around him seemed to disappear. In his world, only the target in the scope remained.
He remembered his father's words.
"It feels like your gun has become a part of your body. You can make the bullet go wherever you want it to go."
"It relies on murderous intent."
murderous look?
No.
There was no murderous intent in Lu Chen's eyes, only a cold calm. What he needed to do was not kill, but to execute a tactical maneuver. A maneuver that had to be performed to protect his teammates and to win the victory.
His finger gently rested on the trigger.
"Bang!"
A muffled gunshot shattered the tranquility of the valley.
Almost simultaneously, through the scope, a plume of blue smoke rose from the sentry's helmet. Before he could even react, he was already "killed."
One shot, and he's dead!
"superior!"
Lu Chen roared.
Like an arrow released from a bow, Wang Lei burst out of the crevice. Holding an automatic rifle in each hand, he began firing wildly towards the camp.
"Da da da da da!"
The firepower of the two guns instantly formed an impenetrable barrage. Although the accuracy was abysmal, the sheer force of the attack was like that of a platoon on the offensive.
The two team members who remained at the camp were completely stunned. They never expected that Lu Chen's team, which had already been decimated, would dare to launch an attack.
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
They frantically sought cover and returned fire. But Wang Lei's firepower was too intense, forcing them to keep their heads down.
Just as everyone's attention was drawn to Wang Lei, Lu Chen, carrying a sniper rifle, silently slipped out from the other side of the crevice.
Instead of seizing any high ground, he moved like a snake, using the terrain as cover to quickly maneuver around the camp's flanks.
The two Dragon Team members were still exchanging fire with Wang Lei. They soon realized that although the opponent had heavy firepower, he seemed to be alone, and his marksmanship was terrible.
"Damn it! We've been tricked!" one of them realized. "He was drawing our fire, while the other one definitely flanked us!"
He tried to warn his companion, but it was too late.
"Bang!"
Another muffled thud from a sniper rifle.
A cloud of blue smoke erupted from his chest. He looked down in disbelief, then slowly collapsed.
"Third brother!" The last remaining team member's eyes turned red when he saw his comrade being sniped. He finally pinpointed the sniper's location and raised his gun to fire in Lu Chen's direction.
But he was fast, and Lu Chen was even faster.
After firing the second shot, Lu Chen didn't even check the result. He rolled on the spot and hid behind a new rock, while simultaneously pulling the bolt to chamber a new bullet.
The movements were fluid and graceful, without a single unnecessary element.
All of the bullets fired by the Dragon Team member hit the rock where he had just been hiding.
And the moment he stopped firing and prepared to change the magazine.
Death has come again.
"Bang!"
The third shot rang out.
A third plume of blue smoke.
The battle ended in just one minute.
Wang Lei stopped shooting and stared in disbelief at everything.
He knew Lu Chen was strong, but he hadn't expected Lu Chen's sniping to be this good. Three shots, three moving targets, each a fatal blow. This wasn't just simple shooting skill; it was art!
"Don't just stand there! Quick! Clean up the mess!" Lu Chen's voice snapped him out of his shock.
"Okay! Great!"
The two quickly rushed into Qin Feng's camp.
The supplies here were more abundant than they had imagined. Ammunition, food, medicine—everything they could need was available. There was even a high-powered military radio.
"We're rich! We're rich!" Wang Lei exclaimed excitedly, like a child, clutching several cans of food, his mouth practically watering.
Lu Chen, however, was not as optimistic. He quickly checked the high-powered radio, and his expression turned serious.
"What's wrong, Brother Chen?"
"Qin Feng and his team can contact the people left behind at any time through this radio. We must complete our arrangements before they become suspicious."
Lu Chen's gaze fell on the high-explosive grenades in the camp.
A bold and crazy plan took shape in his mind.
"Wang Lei, give me all the grenades. Then, find the radios of these three 'dead men' and tune them to our frequency."
"What?" Wang Lei asked, puzzled.
"I'm going to give Qin Feng a big gift." A hint of madness flashed in Lu Chen's eyes.
He took a grenade and an entrenching tool and began working at the only entrance to the camp, which was the only way down the mountain.
He dug several inconspicuous holes, connected the safety pins of the grenades with thin wire, and made a few simple booby traps. Then he carefully disguised them with twigs and loose soil.
After doing all this, he returned to the camp and arranged the three "corpses" emitting blue smoke as if they were resting and chatting.
Finally, he picked up the high-powered radio and pressed the call button.
"Calling the captain, calling the captain, please respond if you hear me." He mimicked the tone of the sentry he had just sniped, lowering his voice as he spoke.
Qin Feng's voice came through the radio quickly: "Received. How's the situation?"
"Reporting to the captain, everything is normal, no abnormalities have been found," Lu Chen replied calmly.
"Where are Lu Chen and the others? Have they made any moves?" Qin Feng was still a little worried.
"No. It's probably hiding in some rat hole and too scared to come out. Or maybe it's already fallen to its death."
"Okay. Stay on guard and report any developments immediately."
"yes!"
After ending the call, Lu Chen let out a long sigh of relief. His palms were already covered in cold sweat.
Those few words of conversation were more exciting than a real fight.
"Brother Chen, you're... amazing!" Wang Lei exclaimed in awe. "You can even imitate voices! When did you learn this skill?"
"I just practiced randomly before," Lu Chen said casually.
He glanced at the sky; Qin Feng and the others had been gone for two or three hours. Judging by the time, they should be back soon.
"Let's go back to the crevice. Take Zhang Mang with us."
"Huh? Aren't we going to stay here and keep watch?"
"Are we just going to stand here and wait for them to come back and make dumplings for us?" Lu Chen glared at him. "The best part of the show is watching from the audience."
The two returned to the crevice, where Lu Chen used the seized medicine to re-treat Zhang Mang's wounds. Then, he and Wang Lei moved the unconscious Zhang Mang to a higher, more secluded cave.
Lu Chen discovered this cave by chance while setting up traps. Its location is excellent; it not only provides cover but also offers a panoramic view of the entire camp.
Everything is ready.
Now, all they have to do is wait.
Waiting for that proud tiger to step into their carefully laid trap.
Time passed, second by second.
Around noon, Qin Feng and his group finally appeared at the entrance of the valley.
They looked tired, and it seemed things weren't going well on the other side of the swamp.
"They're back!" Wang Lei said excitedly in a low voice.
Lu Chen raised his sniper rifle and coldly stared through the scope at those familiar yet hateful faces.
Qin Feng walked at the front, calling out to the camp via radio as he went.
"Sentry, sentry, we're back. How's the situation?"
There was a deathly silence on the radio.
Qin Feng frowned and called out again.
There has still been no response.
"Something's not right." Qin Feng stopped and looked warily at the empty campsite on the mountain. "Everyone, stand guard!"
His teammates immediately spread out and raised their guns.
"What happened? Where are they?" one of Qin Feng's team members asked.
"Maybe... she's asleep?" another guessed.
"Three people can't all fall asleep at the same time!" Qin Feng's face turned grim. He had a bad feeling.
He raised his binoculars and looked toward the camp.
He saw the three "teammates" sitting together. Their postures were strange; they were completely still, like statues.
Qin Feng's heart sank.
"It's a trap!" he roared. "Everyone, don't go that way! Climb up the side!"
However, his reminder came too late.
No sooner had he finished speaking than a series of loud explosions followed, "Boom! Boom! Boom!"
At the back of his team, those few members who were walking at the very end and had just stepped onto the path suddenly burst into a dazzling burst of fire and thick smoke.
It's a booby trap!
Those team members were instantly knocked to the ground by the blast wave, and blue smoke, signifying elimination, rose from their bodies.
The sudden explosion threw the entire Dragon team into chaos.
"There's an ambush!!"
Where is the enemy?
They were like a swarm of headless flies, searching everywhere for the enemy.
Just then, a chilling voice suddenly rang in their headphones.
"Qin Feng, do you like this wonderful gift I gave you?"
It's Lu Chen!
Qin Feng's pupils contracted to their maximum size instantly.
