Chapter 36 Mark II

There were eight golems lying in the sarcophagus, ranging in size from one to five meters. Among them were terrifying skeletal golems and flesh golems, clay golems resembling earth elementals, snow-white ice golems, solid sandstone golems and iron golems, extremely pure diamond golems, and beautiful and complex crystal golems.
Each golem is immune to basic spells such as ice, electricity, fire, and acid, as well as more advanced death spells and spells with abnormal effects. Iron golems and Vajra golems, in particular, have extremely high resistance to blunt attacks.
However, the drawbacks are also obvious: their large size and sluggishness make them unsuitable for the style of special agents.
Billis needs a golem that fits his size.
Constance stroked his long beard, thought for a moment, and said, "Come with me."
Led by Constance, the group continued onward, and whenever Billis thought they had reached the end, another miraculous structure would appear in the Ancient Podrolott Underground City.
A pyramid with octopus sculptures on all four walls suddenly appeared.
The faint sunlight, along with the sand, cascaded down the steps, forming wisps of diffused pale blue sand pools. Combined with the phosphorescent light filtering through the statues, it was just enough to make out the direction.
This is a pyramid with a metal shell. The surface of the pyramid is covered with a rough-textured, silvery matte film. Narrow steps lead from the bottom to the top, with three corridors in the middle, each leading to a large room with a brass doorbell and a keyhole lock.
The top is a skylight box supported by four or five tall square stone pillars. This box was probably used to collect light. Since the pyramid sank underground with the ancient Podrote dynasty, it lost its function of collecting light. However, there is still a row of red things glittering on it.
Strangely, muddy puddles appeared on the dry steps, and half of the round heads of several statues were cut off, probably because they were hit by rocks when they sank.
Constance climbed the steps carefully, as if afraid of disturbing the pyramid's owner.
As expected, something was hidden inside the pyramid, suffering the ravages of time. Its eyes and nose were completely obscured, it had no legs, and its two arms were of varying lengths, appearing as if they were tied with thin wires when stretched out and resembling a fish when shortened.
In short, its shape is very strange and it doesn't look like a golem at all.
Half of Constance's body had already disappeared into the darkness, while the other half was still outside, pulling on the rope loops that clung tightly to the statue. Suddenly, a waterfall of sand cascaded down, and a room opened up before them, its floor wet, yet the air as dry as a desert.
A face appeared in the dim light, its metal surface as smooth as sand and gravel. The stone slabs beneath its feet creaked and groaned, waking the creature.
At first, it was a chaotic shadow. After being exposed to the outside air, the spots and lines slowly began to take shape. It seemed to be trying to make contact with something. The hue kept changing, sometimes red, sometimes yellow, sometimes blue, and the brightness became higher and higher. Finally, it took the shape of a sphere.
This is an amazing creation! It is trying to make contact with the new life.
"Come closer, it doesn't bite."
Constance flicked the sphere with his finger, and the metal sphere suddenly expanded continuously, bulging out a new body, as if it were being shaped by a potter. It grew the arms he had just seen, as well as various randomly pieced-together noses, eyes, and mouths, sometimes like crystal, sometimes like a statue, sometimes like a mineral, or sometimes it didn't resemble anything at all!
It's so playful that it can form any color and shape, and that ever-changing feeling reminds Billis of a freely reconfigurable robot.
“Is this really a golem?” Billis asked.
Constance had already taken out a wrench and began adjusting the narrow piece of metal.
"This is the Mark 2, the last golem made by the ancient Podrolites in imitation of Golem."
Why is it locked up here?
"I'm afraid it's because it can't be used casually."
"You mean it's very unstable?"
"Oh, why would I sell something bad to a customer? Besides, you fixed my mecha, I should be repaying you."
Billis heard the creaking of threads and the cracking of springs coming from inside the golem. The head that had been spinning rapidly just moments before had now cooled down, and its proud gaze suddenly became sluggish.
“What’s wrong with it?” Billis asked again.
Constance stroked his beard nervously, as if something unexpected had happened.
"This is terrible; all the passion it had in its youth has now been extinguished."
“I don’t quite understand, sir.”
"It's too old to work properly."
"Then let's look for other ones."
"You don't believe I can fix it?"
"But you just said it's too old and can't be used properly."
"Is that what I just said?"
Once Constance was determined to fix the golem, he would no longer answer any of Billy's questions.
Moreover, Constance planned to lock himself inside the pyramid for a long period of restoration work and would not come out again until the restoration was completed.
This was all told to the Billies by the fairy Pix.
The Pike sprite also told them that as long as they left their home address, Constance would pack up the repaired golem and ship it to them, and the cost of the golem could be discussed later.
It was night when the Billies left the underground city. Ancient Podrolott was like a prison sunk underground. It was impossible to tell where the top of the city was or where the bottom of the city was. Every color on the mountain was exactly the same, and the terrifying phosphorescence became the most beautiful white.
It's strange, where did all those cursed ancient humans go? Why didn't they see a single skeletal human when they were in the dungeon?
Lisa seemed to already know the answer and told Billy not to think about it any further.
Constance may very well be hiding a secret between Gupodroth and the golem.
If you miss the 8 p.m. cogwheel train, you'll have to spend the night in Salon City.
Coincidentally, the inn where the Billies stayed was also occupied by a bard who claimed to have walked three-quarters of the northern continent.
When Billis asked about Gupodelot, the bard said, "Gupodelot has long since perished. There is no dungeon there. The reason some people can see the dungeon is because ghosts often appear there, and those cursed ghosts look so much like golems."
Billis disagreed, claiming that he had encountered two Khajiit and a Pik Elf in the dungeon.
The bard scrutinized the traveler with his bloodshot eyes, his voice revealing a degree of dissatisfaction with him.
"Tiger-men are an ancient species that are now extinct. What you saw was just a ghost."
"I can tell the difference between a ghost and a spirit."
"Then tell me, what do they look like?"
"A tiger's head, a human posture, crouching at the same height as us standing."
"It's quite an interesting story, but as a bard who sings of legends, I don't like to lie to travelers. There are no tiger people in this other world."
Billis glared at the bard and went back to his room to sleep.
The next morning, the Billies boarded the cogwheel train and returned to the castle.
Although Billis didn't believe the bard's nonsense, he was shaken. For several days, he felt that he had never been to the Podrolott Dungeon, and Lisa couldn't find any shops related to the Golem Golem online.
Another month passed, and the Billies gradually forgot about buying the golem.
One month later, at noon, just as Elsa's enchanting song was playing in the quiet castle, a beetle-shaped cargo plane suddenly pulled up to the castle gate. A sweaty orc got out of the plane and rang the doorbell.
Your package has been delivered!
Billis pushed open the door himself and saw a large crate on the cargo plane.
“Honey! Have you bought anything online recently?” Billis asked Lisa loudly.
“We’ve spent almost all our money on the castle and your little princess,”
"So someone sent it to the wrong address?"
Billy immediately noticed the golden sand covering the box and the metallic smell of earth.
There was a sticker on the side of the crate with a few words written on it very prominently.
Mark II.
