Chapter 64 Ending
In the height of summer, cicadas chirped incessantly, and sunlight filtered through the gaps in the sycamore leaves, casting dappled shadows on Lin Mianmian's college acceptance letter.
She held the piece of paper with the school's name embossed in gold, her fingertips trembling slightly, and her eyes involuntarily reddened.
After years of hard work and countless nights spent in the library, she finally achieved the best result—she was admitted to the graduate program she had always dreamed of.
What are you standing there for?
A familiar voice came from behind her, and Lin Mianmian turned around abruptly, meeting Xie Lin's smiling eyes.
He wore a well-tailored dark gray suit, his posture was upright, and his eyes were full of composure and sharpness.
The aftereffects on my right leg have been so carefully managed that they are almost invisible. Only when I walk too fast occasionally will a slight, barely noticeable limp be visible.
But now, standing in the light, he exudes the noble aura of a rising star in the business world, no longer the disheveled young man he once was.
That year, Xie Lin took complete control of the Xie family, swiftly purging the corrupt forces within and boldly launching new technology projects. In just six months, he secured hundreds of millions in funding, becoming a young talent praised by everyone in the industry.
Xie Lin strode forward, reached out and pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head, his voice so gentle it could melt water: "My little girl, you're wonderful."
Lin Mianmian buried herself in his arms, smelling the crisp cedar scent on him. The grievances and joy that had been building up for so long finally turned into hot tears, soaking his shirt.
"I thought..." she choked up, but before she could finish speaking, Xie Lin gently interrupted her.
He raised his hand to wipe away her tears, his fingertips caressing her cheek, his eyes filled with tenderness. "I told you, this time, I won't let go again."
The two embraced and walked to an open-air café not far away.
Xie Lin ordered her favorite caramel macchiato, then carefully took the admission notice from her hand, looking at it over and over, unable to suppress the smile on his lips.
"On the first day of school, I will personally take you to school." He looked at her with a serious expression. "From now on, just focus on your studies, and leave the rest to me."
Lin Mianmian sniffed and nodded with a smile. Sunlight fell on her face, making her eyebrows and eyes crinkle, just like when they first met.
Xie Lin looked at her, his heart felt as if it were filled with something warm and reassuring.
He suddenly remembered the way she cried and hit him in the heavy snow last year, and thought of his own anxiety and uncertainty these days. The tenderness in his eyes gradually turned into a hint of solemnity.
As if remembering something, he suddenly stood up and whispered a few instructions to the waiter.
Lin Mianmian was puzzled when she saw him walk over holding a velvet box and kneel down in front of her on one knee.
All eyes immediately turned to her, and Lin Mianmian's face flushed bright red. Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of her chest.
Xie Lin opened the box, inside lay a simple yet dazzling diamond ring, the diamond reflecting a brilliant light in the sunlight.
He looked up at her, his eyes filled with an unprecedented seriousness and earnestness, his voice low and firm, each word striking her heart:
"Lin Mianmian, from the first moment I saw you, I knew that you were my destiny in this life."
"I once cowardly pushed you away, leaving you to bear so much injustice alone. But for the rest of my life, I want to hold your hand, accompany you through all the seasons, and protect you for a lifetime of peace and happiness."
"Will you marry me and be Xie Lin's one and only wife for the rest of your life?"
Looking into his eyes, at the deep affection in them, and at his slightly reddened eyes, Lin Mianmian's tears welled up once again.
She nodded vigorously, her voice choked with emotion but crystal clear: "I do!"
A bright light flashed in Xie Lin's eyes. He carefully placed the diamond ring on her ring finger; the size was just right.
He stood up, pulled her into a tight embrace, lowered his head, and kissed her lips.
Applause and cheers rang out all around, the cicadas continued their noisy chirping, and the sun remained scorching, but in Lin Mianmian's heart, it was as if a clear spring had flowed through it, cool and sweet.
She raised her hand and hugged his waist, feeling his strong heartbeat, a happy smile curving her lips.
She knew that those days of wandering and hardship were finally over.
The road ahead is long, but as long as he is by my side, there will be endless light and hope.
Xie Lin looked down at the smiling girl in his arms, his eyes filled with doting affection. He spoke softly, his voice so gentle it could seduce someone: "Come on, let's go home and tell Grandma the good news."
Lin Mianmian nodded, letting him hold her hand as they walked step by step toward home.
The sunlight cast long, long shadows of the two of them, who nestled close together and never separated again.
Their story, amidst the chirping of cicadas in the height of summer, reached its most perfect ending.
The main story is over. This is the finale.
