Chapter 40 The Hero of Mianmian

"Come and try again!" Lin Mianmian's voice was hoarse and trembling, but it carried a fierce determination.

"At worst, we'll all die together! If I die, none of you will get away with it!"

Seeing this, the old man made a WeChat video call to his mother. He couldn't let the woman he had gone to so much trouble to buy become disabled before she was even used.

Video call open

Wang Shumei screamed, "Mianmian! Are you crazy? Put down the scissors! Brother Zhang isn't a bad person. You'll live a life of luxury after you marry into this family. What more could you want?"

"Eating and drinking well?" Lin Mianmian sneered, her gaze sweeping over Wang Shumei's fawning face.

Then she looked at Zhang the Cripple, who was cowering on the ground and wailing, and at the old man Zhang's狰狞 face, "You sold me to a sixty-year-old bachelor and I have to take care of his dwarf son. Is this the good life you're talking about? Wang Shumei, do you even deserve to be a mother?"

These words were like a sharp knife, piercing deeply into Wang Shumei's heart.

Her face flushed red and then turned pale. Enraged, she pointed at Lin Mianmian and yelled, "You ungrateful wretch! I raised you all these years, what's wrong with letting you pay off your brother's debts?"

"I'm your mother, and I'll tell you who to marry, and that's who you'll marry!"

"I haven't had a mother for a long time!" Lin Mianmian's voice suddenly rose, and tears finally rolled down her cheeks.

It wasn't out of fear, but out of deep-seated resentment and hatred: "You only have eyes for Lin Yaozu! He gambles and owes debts, and you're forcing me to pay them off!"

"He caused trouble, so you want me to apologize."

"Now he's gambled away money and owes loan sharks, and you're actually going to sell me to this kind of person to pay off his debts! You don't deserve to be a mother at all!"

When Old Zhang realized he hadn't achieved his goal, he impatiently yelled and hung up the phone, ending the confrontation between mother and daughter.

"You brat, you have to obey whether you like it or not."

As he spoke, he tried to get around the scissors and lunge at them.

Just then, a deafening screech of brakes came from outside the courtyard gate, followed by the cracking sound of shattering glass and a man's furious roar: "Mianmian! Where are you!"

The sound was like a thunderclap, freezing everyone present in place.

Lin Mianmian shuddered, the scissors in her hand fell to the ground with a clatter, and tears streamed down her face.

It's Xie Lin!

Before Old Zhang and his dwarf son could react, they heard a loud bang as the dilapidated wooden door was kicked open, sending splinters flying everywhere.

Xie Lin stormed in, his figure radiating boundless rage. He was still wearing a well-tailored suit, but it was covered in dust, clearly indicating that he had sped all the way here.

His hair was somewhat disheveled, the bloodshot veins in his peach blossom eyes were alarming, and the red mole at the corner of his eye looked as if it had been quenched with blood. His gaze swept over the mess in the room and then landed on Lin Mianmian.

Her clothes were wrinkled, her mouth was bruised, and her eyes were filled with tears. She looked so disheveled that it made one's heart tremble.

At that moment, the air around Xie Lin seemed to freeze.

He didn't say anything, but walked step by step toward Old Man Zhang.

Old Zhang was so frightened by the man's menacing aura that his legs went weak, and he retreated repeatedly, saying, "You...who are you? This is my home, how dare you do this to me?"

Xie Lin ignored him, but simply raised his hand and waved behind him.

The next second, a dozen bodyguards in black suits filed in, each holding a camera, and started snapping photos of the room.

Old Zhang's son turned pale with fright and screamed as he tried to grab the camera: "Stop taking pictures! Stop taking pictures!"

But a man in black stopped him, rendering him unable to move.

Xie Lin finally walked up to Old Man Zhang, looking down at him with a voice as cold as ice: "You want to die if you mess with my people?"

Before he finished speaking, he raised his hand and punched Old Zhang hard in the face.

Old Zhang screamed and fell straight to the ground, blood gushing from his nose.

Zhang the Cripple, who was huddled on the ground, was so frightened that he forgot to cry and just kept shrinking into the corner.

Xie Lin didn't look at them again, turned around, and strode up to Lin Mianmian.

He crouched down, carefully reached out, and wiped away the tear stains on her cheeks, the harshness in his voice instantly dissipating.

All that remained was endless heartache: "Mianmian, don't be afraid, I'm here."

Lin Mianmian could no longer hold back and threw herself into his arms, bursting into tears.

The late summer wind blew dust into the house, carrying a hint of blood, but also dispelling the nauseating musty smell.

The men in black methodically controlled the scene, the shutters clicking incessantly, capturing this sordid moment as evidence to send them to prison for life.

The black Maybach sped along, cutting through the hustle and bustle of the city at dusk.

Xie Lin pulled Lin Mianmian into the passenger seat and took off his suit jacket to wrap her trembling body.

He gently stroked the back of her hand with his fingertips again and again, trying to soothe the little girl's hurt feelings.

In the hospital's VIP consultation room, the doctor carefully examined Lin Mianmian's body, gently soothing her tense nerves.

Xie Lin stood to the side, his gaze fixed on the numerous bruises on her body, the coldness in his eyes almost freezing.

"It's nothing serious, just a bit of a shock and a few minor abrasions. I'll just get some ointment to apply at home."

The doctor closed the medical record and added, "Let her rest well these few days and avoid any further stress."

Xie Lin nodded, his voice icy cold: "Thank you for your help."

He helped Lin Mianmian out of the clinic, but they were stopped by a commotion at the end of the corridor.

Wang Shumei and Lin Yaozu were "invited" over by several bodyguards, their faces filled with panic.

Upon seeing Xie Lin, Wang Shumei grasped at a straw and lunged forward to grab his arm, but was stopped by the bodyguard.

"Young Master Xie! Young Master Xie, please have mercy!" Wang Shumei cried out, her voice shrill.

"Those Zhang father and son are bastards! They forced me into this situation! I'm doing this for Yaozu! Please let us go! We can't pay back the loan sharks!"

Lin Yaozu shrank behind her, his eyes darting around, but he still mustered up the courage to shout, "Sister! Please beg Young Master Xie! Ask him to lend us some money, I promise I'll never gamble again, please save me!"

Lin Mianmian leaned against Xie Lin's chest, looked up at the mother and child, her eyes devoid of any emotion, only a deathly coldness.

She experienced all the grievances, the coercion, and the despair of being sold as a commodity.

At this moment, all of it turned into sharp blades, piercing her heart with pain, yet she could no longer shed a single tear.

Xie Lin lowered his eyes, looking at the pale profile of the person in his arms, and a surge of ferocity welled up in his eyes.

He raised his hand and pressed Lin Mianmian's face into the crook of his neck, preventing her from seeing the disgusting scene before him. Then he looked up and coldly swept his gaze over Wang Shumei and Lin Yaozu.

"Let you go?" Xie Lin's voice was soft, yet it carried a devastating sense of oppression.

"When you dragged my woman to that kind of place and almost caused her utter ruin, did you never think of letting her go?"

He snapped his fingers, and the lawyer behind him immediately stepped forward and handed him a document.

Wang Shumei's eyes were fixed on the lawyer's hand. Seeing that there were only documents and no money, she jumped up and down in a panic: "Why is there no money? Young Master Xie, didn't you promise to help us pay off our debts? Five hundred thousand! Where is the five hundred thousand you promised?"

Xie Lin seemed to have heard the biggest joke in the world, and a mocking smile curled his thin lips.

His gaze fell on Wang Shumei's greedy face, and his words were like daggers: "Money? You don't even deserve it?"

These words were like a bucket of ice water poured over Wang Shumei and Lin Yaozu.

Wang Shumei's face turned deathly pale instantly. She collapsed to the ground, crying and pounding the ground, "You can't do this! Lin Mianmian is my daughter! Why won't you give me the money!"

"You treat her like a commodity, selling her to an old bachelor to pay off his gambling debts." Xie Lin's voice was as cold as ice, his gaze sweeping over the document, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.

"This is a severance agreement. Sign it, get out of this city, and never show your face in front of Mianmian again. Otherwise, the high-interest loans Lin Yaozu owes, and the case of the Zhang family father and son, are enough to keep you in jail for life."

The lawyer stepped forward and shoved a pen into Wang Shumei's hand. The bodyguards, holding Lin Yaozu back, forced him to sign the documents as well.

As she watched the two sign their names, Lin Mianmian's body trembled slightly, but she did not look up.

Xie Lin sensed it, tightened his arms around her, and lowered his head to place a gentle kiss on the top of her head, his voice so tender it could melt water.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here for you, no one will be able to bully you anymore."

Meanwhile, the Zhang family, father and son, had already been dealt with entirely by their lawyers and bodyguards, and the dowry money belonging to Old Man Zhang had been fully recovered.

He and Zhang the Cripple are suspected of illegal detention and attempted rape. They have been taken away by the police and will face severe legal punishment.
