45. Battle of Tujia Fortress
His arm was broken, his thigh was broken. He screamed in agony. The surrounding constables and magistrate looked on in horror.
Yun Su and her group remained calm and did not interrupt in any way.
'Where did all those people who were arrested go? Otherwise, your head will be next.' He Chen had a rough idea of what would happen, but it would be best if he could find out the truth.
"They, they've all been given to the monster." The county magistrate, who wasn't exactly known for his aloofness and integrity, immediately confessed.
"Did your Tujia Fortress cooperate with the monsters?" He Chen asked.
"Yes, this place is remote and barren, with scarce spiritual energy, making medicinal herbs and elixirs difficult to find. However, there are plenty of spiritual materials deep in the distant mountains. They all traded them for these materials. These lowly lives, exchanged for some spiritual materials, are fortunate indeed."
He Chen looked at the magistrate and asked, "Should he be executed at the execution ground tomorrow at three-quarters of an hour?"
Magistrate Meng, regaining his senses, heard the words and said, "Colluding with demons is a capital offense, but we need to report to our superiors. We don't have the authority to execute them directly; we need to investigate before taking any action. Unless they are from the Demon Slayer Division, and the evidence is conclusive, they can be executed. I urge Lord He not to act impulsively."
Magistrate Meng now realizes that He Tongsheng is truly ruthless! He previously killed gang members and prominent families, but since they weren't government officials or subordinates, their deaths went unnoticed. This county clerk, however, holds an official position; killing him would be too troublesome.
The county magistrate quickly added, "Your Honor, I deserve to die. Please, Your Honor, show mercy and do not defile your hands."
'What a nuisance.' He casually put down the county magistrate's chair, then cried out in pain as he sat down.
Suddenly, a flash of light, and the chair was cleaved in two. Then, a bloody gash appeared on the magistrate's forehead, running smoothly downwards like a mirror.
"Ah!" Immediately, blood flowed everywhere, and the person was split in two.
'No killing equals peace?'
'I won't rest easy if I don't kill them!'
He Chen muttered to himself. Magistrate Meng was instantly stunned.
Yun Su's beautiful eyes initially remained calm; sparing him was understandable. However, the moment the blade flashed, her eyes gleamed with a brilliance, and she made her decision. The three behind her also watched the change in an instant, and were very satisfied with He Chen's impression.
At this moment, he seemed to have some acceptance of the person his young lady had chosen. A man should kill; if he doesn't, his heart will not be at peace.
He turned and strode around. "I'll head to Tujia Fort first; you can come later to handle the rest."
Then he smiled slightly at Yun Su, "Go back and rest first. Men's matters are for men to handle."
Then, with a single step, he moved with the wind and clouds, soaring through the air and heading west.
Yun Su gazed at her intently, her smile enchanting, her beautiful eyes gazing intently. At that moment, the moonlight shone upon her like tassels, making her appear incomparably beautiful, like a celestial maiden from the heavens, too beautiful to look directly at.
"Don't worry, Miss!" the man with the knife behind her said in a low voice as he stepped forward.
"Yes," she nodded softly in response.
Yang Dexing watched as He Chen seemingly moved effortlessly through the air, a situation far beyond his control. With the magistrate present, he couldn't make a complete decision either. He then looked to the magistrate for instructions.
"You should follow Director He's instructions. This county magistrate was attacked by evil spirits today and was accidentally injured and killed. He deserves to die."
"Yes, Your Excellency." He then hurriedly left.
Magistrate Meng had just finished giving his instructions and was about to greet Yun Su and her group when he turned around. They had vanished without a trace; he had no idea when they had left. He thought to himself, 'With Miss Yun Su and her group as witnesses, nothing will happen.'
Riding the wind and clouds, I sped westward, thinking to myself, 'How wonderful it would be to have my wife, kids, and a warm bed at this time! This is truly disturbing my rest time, unforgivable! I hope there are more kills!'
Soon, a Tujia fortress surrounded by walls came into view. It wasn't large, but it was well-protected, with high walls around it and patrols on top. Expanding his divine sense, he sensed someone underground! Listening carefully…
"We've been captured and brought here, so we probably won't get out alive. People went missing a while ago, and they haven't even found their remains."
"I don't know where I am! Help! Someone, please help me!"
'Stop making all that noise! If you keep making noise, I'll cut your tongue out!'
'Hehe, this one looks pretty good, I'll try it first.'
"Don't move anything. If the King is not satisfied, fill it in yourself. Last time, one of the escorts couldn't control himself and got himself into trouble."
It was noisy inside.
So, they changed direction and arrived at the gate of Tujia Fortress. "Who are you? What business do you have in my Tujia Fortress? It's already night, leave at once!" They were spotted by the people on the city wall as soon as they arrived.
"Listen up, people inside Tujia Fortress! You've been kidnapping people and colluding with demonic beasts. You've committed a crime! Come out and surrender now, or you might save your lives. Otherwise, this day next year will be your death anniversary!" He Chen shouted.
Don't be afraid of disturbing the grass!
Then, ignoring everything else, he took up his Gentleman's Blade, rose into the air, circulated his inner energy, and gathered strength for a strike. In an instant, he rushed to the gate and slashed down fiercely.
With a deafening roar, the gate shattered into pieces, crackling with lightning and engulfed in flames! Soon, the city gate ablaze ignited the start of the battle.
"Second Brother, someone's attacking! Everyone get up!"
'The Tujia chieftain is colluding with demons. Anyone unaware of this should stay indoors and not go out, or they will be killed without mercy!'
He Chen roared, "If I really get out, I can only blame my bad luck! This damn era!"
"Who are you, causing trouble in my Tujia Fortress and slandering its reputation?" said the leader of the Tujia Fortress.
He wielded the Overlord Spear, clearly a valuable weapon forged from fine iron, as thick as a bowl and eighteen feet long. Soon after, pairs of elite soldiers arrived, armed with bows and arrows, their blades gleaming menacingly. They quickly surrounded him, awaiting only the order to unleash a barrage of arrows.
"Tujia Fortress, your unauthorized arrest of missing persons and your dealings with monsters have been exposed. Lay down your weapons and surrender immediately. I will only kill the ringleaders; you can spare their lives. Now, lay down your weapons and surrender!"
He Chen urged the people without light to leave one last time, for soon swords and spears would strike without mercy.
"Heh heh, since something's happened, why are you the only one here? Men, kill him, then no one will be implicated." The leader's face was full of hostility! Seeing that everyone was already in place, his expression changed. So what if something happened? Nobody cares in this county now!
He was about to give the order, "Fire!"
Suddenly, a jarring voice shouted, "Stop! Don't listen to him, or we'll all die!"
The person arrived in a hurry; he was about 20 years old, dressed decently but somewhat stiff and coarse clothing. Upon closer inspection, a tattered headscarf covered his head, and his trousers had a barely noticeable hole. He wore a pair of worn-out cloth shoes!
