The thought of making money made these women incredibly efficient, and even their pregnant bellies didn't stop them from working.

In just one morning, the mountain of lettuce in front of me was processed and cut into strips.

At noon, taking advantage of the strong sun, everyone worked together to take the lettuce out to dry.

Seeing that everyone was working hard, Lin Han asked Liu Li to calculate everyone's piecework for the day.

"I pay half of the wages upfront each day, and the other half will be settled in one lump sum after all the work is finished."

No one had any objections; whatever Lin Han said, they would do.

The first day of work was successfully completed, and these military spouses received their wages.

They had never been so happy. Now they could go home and brag to their husbands that they could earn money too, and that no one should look down on them anymore.

Commander Zhang's wife heard from somewhere that the pregnant woman in the family compound was making money with Liu Li.

How could she miss out on such a good thing?

So she found Liu Li and said, "I heard you're making money with those pregnant military wives? They earn several cents a day. Why didn't you call me if there's such a good opportunity?"

Liu Li found it ridiculous. "Why should I call you? Who are you?"

Commander Zhang's wife adopted a condescending attitude, saying, "You're asking me who I am? Why are you playing dumb with me?"

What are you doing? If you don't take me with you, I'll sue you.

Employing workers allows for a capitalist approach.

Liu Li glared at her, "Which eye of yours saw me hiring workers? This is called generating income and building a business with military spouses, don't you understand?"

I wonder what you're thinking about all day long?

Commander Zhang's wife was unconvinced; she believed that anything that didn't involve her was definitely suspicious.

When Wang Ru and Li Qiao returned in the evening, she told them about Liu Li giving money to the military wives that day.

Wang Ru also found it strange.

"They get paid? Didn't you ask what they're doing it for?"

Commander Zhang's wife dismissed the idea, saying, "What can they do? In the morning, a bunch of people are chopping vegetables, and then in the afternoon, they're drying them. It's all so random. Maybe they're helping someone prepare winter vegetables."

Wang Ru felt it couldn't be that simple; who would need so many people working together to prepare winter vegetables?

We could eat it for two years and still not finish it.

“Aunt Zhang, go and see what’s going on tomorrow. They’re definitely up to something.”

Commander Zhang's wife thought the same way. If this group of people wouldn't help her make money, then she would make sure they couldn't make money either.

"Wang Ru, aren't you good at reporting people? Why don't you just report them all?"

Wang Ru was startled. "Aunt Zhang, don't talk nonsense. When have I ever been good at reporting people? I've never reported anyone."

She felt a little guilty, wondering if Li Qiao had betrayed her.

The reason I asked Li Qiao to write the whistleblower letter was because I was afraid that if the matter were discovered, it would implicate me.

That Li Qiao is really something, she actually told Zhang Qiang's mother?

Commander Zhang's wife had a "see if I believe you" look on her face, but then again, who cares who reported it? As long as she has a constant stream of gossip, that's all that matters.

She has no job and spends all her time in this compound, so bored she's practically growing mold. She kills time by gossiping about other people.

If she could also find the source of all this gossip, she couldn't even imagine how happy she would be.

"I'll go check on them again tomorrow and see what those women are up to. I'll kill them."
