Chapter 19 Lin Han, a pitiful girl who evokes sympathy (2/2)
Reading Settings
When she opened the door, she was startled to see a pale, white face in front of her.
Lin Han felt a little embarrassed. She had been so engrossed in reading the novel that she had forgotten she was wearing a face mask.
She quickly ripped the things off her face. "Sister-in-law Wang, what do you need me for?"
Sister-in-law Wang came into the house and handed Lin Han a pair of embroidered cloth shoes and a pair of woolen gloves from her bag.
"Sister Lin, these are cloth shoes I made myself. Please don't mind them. We country folk don't have any great skills, we just know how to do handicrafts."
I noticed your feet are about the same size as mine. I'll bring them over for you to try on. If they don't fit, I'll make you a new one.
Lin Han looked at the shoes in Wang's hand and liked them very much. No leather shoes or work boots could compare to the comfort of handmade cloth shoes.
"Sister-in-law Wang, you are so skillful! You know so many tricks. These shoes are really beautiful. The ones sold in the Shanghai Department Store can't compare to your craftsmanship."
The embroidery is so lifelike; I've never seen such beautiful embroidery before.
Wang's sister-in-law was so flattered by the praise that she was a little embarrassed.
"It's not as good as you say. If you like, I can embroider a pair of sleeves for you when I have time. How about a mandarin duck pattern?"
Lin Han didn't stand on ceremony. Since she had taken Wang's things, she naturally reciprocated. The relationship between neighbors was strengthened through such exchanges.
“Okay, I’ll have the one with mandarin ducks embroidered on it. It’s perfect for me since I just got married.”
Sister-in-law Wang took this to heart. "Sigh, I'll use a brighter fabric to embroider it for you."
She's used to doing these chores at home, but no one has ever praised her. Lin Han is such a lovable girl.
When Sister-in-law Wang left, Lin Han took out a peach wood comb from his spatial storage and gave it to her.
"Wow, this must be expensive! It looks really nice, and it even has pictures on it."
Sister-in-law Wang was embarrassed to accept the gift, but her long hair often broke the comb, and she had been wanting to buy a better one for a long time.
Lin Han chose to give her the comb because of this.
"Things made of wood are worthless, far less valuable than the shoes and gloves you gave me."
Sister-in-law Wang then happily accepted it.
She thought Lin Han was a really nice girl; her way of speaking and acting made people feel comfortable, and she was willing to associate with her more.
After Sister-in-law Wang left, Lin Han took out a self-heating hot pot from her spatial storage and ate it.
I had only eaten half of it when someone knocked on the door again.
This time, she made sure to put her things away before opening the door.
Aunt Zhang came over carrying steaming hot buns.
"Sister Lin, come and try my steamed buns, the pork filling is so delicious."
As he spoke, he slipped one into Lin Han's hand.
Lin Han smelled the aroma of the steamed buns and thought they were indeed very fragrant, so she took a bite in front of Aunt Zhang.
"Mmm, it's delicious. The pork filling is oily, savory, and fragrant, and the dough is very soft and fluffy. Sister Zhang, your cooking skills are really good. I've never had such delicious meat buns at home. If you sold these at a breakfast stall, the line of people buying them would stretch all the way to the next city."
Zhang's sister-in-law was amused by Lin Han.
"It's not as amazing as you make it out to be. I just added a little sesame oil to the filling. It's not as good as you say."
Lin Han took another bite of the bun and continued to praise it.
"Yes, yes, I'm very picky. If I say something is delicious, it's definitely good. If the army canteen hired you to make steamed buns, the soldiers would be more willing to go out and make extra trips to find food."
Mrs. Zhang was so flattered that she couldn't stop smiling.
"You have such a sweet tongue, you're so charming. I love chatting with you. I've been cooking for my husband for so many years, but I've never been praised by him."
If you ask me, Commander Huo is the lucky one. He married a wife with a silver tongue; she must be praising him so much that he puts in his best effort every night.
Lin Han blushed slightly. Why did Sister-in-law Zhang suddenly make that suggestive joke?
