Chapter 172 Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Relationship

Yunxi didn't stay in town for long and hurried home to try her best to finish knitting the two sweaters and send them over in mid-October.
I rushed to finish the sweater, even staying up late at night, and finally finished knitting it in mid-October when the snow fell. I couldn't wait to put the sweater in a bag, and then took a wild boar leg from my spatial storage, ready to visit my future in-laws.
She was wearing a thick cotton-padded coat, with a newly knitted sweater underneath. Because she was dressed so warmly, she waddled around like a duck.
It used to take an hour to walk to the town, but because we were walking slowly and carrying things, it took us two hours.
When they arrived at Li Xingtang's house, they saw that the door was locked from the inside, so they knew that no one was home.
He slapped his forehead, realizing he'd been so focused on delivering the knitted sweater that he'd forgotten they all needed to go to work.
I glanced at my watch; it was almost 11 o'clock. I decided to just wait there.
I was too lazy to go inside their factory to look for it, so I just left the things at the door. They wouldn't freeze anyway. I walked around outside in the yard to keep myself from getting completely frozen, and occasionally I'd jump around a bit.
When I got tired, I squatted down and used my mental energy to enter my spatial dimension to tidy up the fish, shrimp, and crabs that I had sent into it a long time ago. I had already finished knitting the sweater, and I wasn't planning to go out anymore, so I decided to finish these things and store them away.
Looking at the snow falling now, it doesn't seem as heavy as it was two years ago. Normally, the snow would be at least a meter thick this month, but now it's only a little above the calves.
I know next year will be tough, so I'm stocking up on food as soon as possible.
While tidying up, I heard footsteps. I withdrew my mental energy, looked up, and found that it was Li Xingtang's mother who had returned.
"Mom, are you off work?"
The money for changing the address to "Mom" has already been received, so it's not like she can't say "Mom." On the contrary, Yunxi calls her "Mom" very sweetly. Plus, she's naturally beautiful, so no one in the surrounding area dislikes her.
When Li's mother saw her daughter-in-law wearing a thick rabbit fur hat and a thick woolen scarf around her neck, looking up at her with her big, blinking eyes, she felt her heart melt instantly.
"Oh my, it's Xiaoxi! If I had known you were coming, I wouldn't have gone to work today. How long have you been here? You must be freezing! Come on in."
The door was already open, and seeing her daughter-in-law about to pick up the things on the ground, she quickly took them from her. "Next time you come, just come in person. You don't need to bring anything. Your father and I both have jobs. If you need anything, just go and buy it. It's not easy for a young woman like you to save up things at home. Don't worry about us. Xing Tang already told us that you sent him dried meat several times. The brat is so strong, he doesn't need to eat so well. Don't send him anything next time. Eat more yourself. You seem to have lost weight. Is there not enough food at home?"
She kept talking nonstop the whole way, but Yunxi didn't mind at all.
I followed her into the courtyard and looked around. It was no different from the last time I came.
"I didn't bring anything fancy. These are sweaters I knitted especially for you and Dad. The meat on the side is wild boar. We still have some at home. I saved this for you to eat. I get a salary in town, but the weather is bad now, so we're probably short of everything. Mom, please don't be shy with me. Xing Tang isn't home, so it's only right that I take care of you."
Li's mother felt that her daughter-in-law was really too considerate.
She's even more considerate than when her son is home. Her son only ever makes her angry; no girl is as considerate as her.
As soon as I entered the living room, I quickly made a cup of brown sugar water and handed it to Yunxi, while also holding her hand to see if it was too cold.
"Hold the cup in your hands to warm them up. Luckily, I was wearing gloves so my hands weren't cold. I didn't expect you to knit sweaters for me and my husband. You must be tired. You don't need to knit next time; we have knitting cloth at home."
Yunxi: "It's okay, Mom. It's my way of knitting for you, but I'm a beginner and it's not very pretty. I hope you and Dad won't mind."
Li's mother: "No, no, how could I possibly dislike it? It's almost lunchtime, so sit here for a while and I'll go cook for you. Is there anything you'd like to eat?"
Yunxi: "I'm not picky about food, Mom, just cook whatever you like. Why isn't Dad back yet?"
Li's mother: "I was going home to cook, so I came back a few minutes early. Your dad won't be back that soon; he should be back in a few more minutes."
Yunxi: "Mom, I'll help you make it."
Since you've already made the trip, you should at least appear diligent. Although you'll definitely reveal your true colors after marriage, you still have to pretend on the surface.
Besides, she was a hardworking person and could do all the chores in the kitchen. She was just an assistant, so it wasn't difficult for her.
Li's mother: "No need for you. It's rare for you to come all this way, so sit here for a while. I'm quick, I'll be done in no time."
Yunxi: "It's okay, I'll just help out. Besides, it's been a long time since I chatted with Mom, and I want to spend more time with her."
Oh my goodness, these words immediately made Li's mother overjoyed. At this moment, she no longer thought her son was a brat. She praised her son in her heart for his good taste in finding such a good and capable daughter-in-law.
The two of them went to the kitchen affectionately. Li's mother brought out all the good things in the house, ready to cook them all for her daughter-in-law.
Yunxi stopped them, after all, how much could three people eat? There was really no need to waste food.
After much persuasion, they prepared four dishes and a soup, all of which were meat. The soup was made with dried shrimp and kelp. In the context of widespread famine, this level of food was considered quite good.
After the meal was prepared, Li's father returned just in time for dinner.
The father-in-law, perhaps mindful of his position, didn't want to say too much to his daughter-in-law, but his attitude remained very gentle, and the phrase he repeated most often was "Eat more, eat more."
Knowing that her in-laws liked her, had no complaints about her, and could feel their kindness towards her, she was already very happy.
After the meal, Yunxi didn't stay long, since her in-laws had to go to work in the afternoon. After chatting for a while, she prepared to say goodbye.
When Li's mother heard that her daughter-in-law was going back, she hurriedly searched everywhere in the room and kitchen. It was as if all the good things in the house were free to buy, so she stuffed them all into a sack. When Yunxi was about to leave, she found herself carrying a sack full of things.
"Mom, I don't need any of these things. You should keep them for yourselves. It's easy to have meat or fish if you want. We have plenty frozen at home. Don't take the meat and dried fish. We really can't finish them all. It wouldn't be good if you had nothing to eat and I couldn't finish mine. It would be too much trouble to leave them there!"
Quickly take out all the fish, meat, and a large bag of dried seafood. The sack instantly flattened by half, revealing items that required ration coupons to purchase at the supply and marketing cooperative.
I can't refuse such a small thing.
