Chapter 119 Busy Farming Season

"I'd love to play with you, but unfortunately we're too young. We have to be at least 16 years old to play together."
Yunxi's tone was full of regret. If she had been a fairy, she wouldn't have had so many concerns. But as a human, she had to follow the times and abide by the rules of this era.
Grandma Cheng and Grandma Huang's original words were that if Yunxi didn't pass the high school entrance exam when she turned 16, they would introduce her to a harmonious family with good conditions so that her life wouldn't be too bad in the future.
Yunxi didn't refute it at the time, because no one had ever openly seduced her like that before, so she didn't have any such thoughts.
Moreover, she felt that the old woman was concerned about her, and although she didn't hear what the old woman was saying, she didn't interrupt her.
Yunxi was confident that she could get into high school. She was such a good student, not to mention high school, even university wasn't out of the question.
Li Xingtang's eyes lit up when he heard Yunxi's words. He realized that it wasn't just wishful thinking on his part, and he was overjoyed.
"Yunxi, don't rush. You can play around when you're 16. I will remain chaste for you."
"Oh, I'm glad you like it. By the time I'm 16, I should be in high school. I hope we can still be in the same school then."
Yunxi has a rather indifferent attitude; if one doesn't work out, there's always another. She doesn't care too much about this aspect at all.
Most of the male classmates in the class were not immune to her face; after all, everyone loves beauty, and that's understandable.
If it weren't for Li Xingtang's domineering nature, preventing others from getting close, she would already be surrounded by a large group of protectors.
It's just that none of the other classmates in the class are good-looking enough to meet her aesthetic standards; otherwise, Li Xingtang wouldn't dare to be so domineering in front of her.
Upon hearing Yunxi's words, Li Xingtang assumed that since she hadn't rejected him, she had agreed, and he was incredibly excited.
Anyway, he felt that with his good grades, getting into high school should be a piece of cake. Once he got to high school, just thinking about all the things he could do made him incredibly excited.
"Yunxi, thank you for giving me this opportunity. Don't worry, I will treat you very, very well."
"Oh, nothing else. I'll head back now. See you after the busy farming season."
Yunxi didn't feel like she had promised him anything, and with an attitude of neither accepting nor refusing, she responded indifferently.
He waved to him and then walked in the direction of Yunjia Village.
By this time, the people from Yunjia Village who were going to school or returning home had already traveled a long distance, and the sky was gradually getting dark. Yunxi did not linger on the road and moved much faster than usual.
By the time they got home, it was getting dark, and the people working in the fields harvesting crops were about to head home.
When I passed by the drying ground, I saw a huge pile of corn and potatoes. I thought the villagers were really hardworking, harvesting so much so quickly.
Although there looks like a lot of produce on the drying ground, there's still more to harvest from the fields, so the next few days will be even tougher.
I'm glad that the acre of wasteland I reclaimed on the mountain was planted with sweet potatoes, which are not yet ready to be harvested.
As for the scallions, ginger, and garlic, they can still grow for a while. I plan to harvest them during a Sunday off after the busy farming season.
After returning home, I tidied up the yard, checked on the chickens in the backyard, collected their eggs, fed them, and added some extra water.
Seeing that the chickens looked quite energetic, I took a satisfied look and left.
I had originally planned to ask Grandma Huang and the others to help hatch more chicks, but then I thought about going to school and how raising too many would make them easy targets for weasels when I wasn't home, so I told them in advance that it was better not to.
First, I went to the kitchen and cooked a big pot of rice. While the rice was still not cooked, I went to the backyard and gathered all the vegetables that needed to be harvested.
Once autumn harvest time arrives, almost all the edible vegetables in the backyard should be harvested. If you continue to plant them, they won't bear fruit anymore and will start to age.
Except for leaving some chives, Yunxi dug up everything else.
After working for almost two hours, the entire backyard was empty except for some chive roots; all the other leafy greens were gone.
Anyway, the weather will get colder and colder in the coming days, so there's no need to plant anything else. We can plant some more next spring.
Even chives might not survive the winter. So when winter comes, just dig up some soil and plant them in an unused room. If they grow, great; if not, you won't lack vegetables to eat.
Fortunately, I could still see after dark. By the time I finished the work, it was already eight or nine o'clock.
I poured out some hot water from the space, washed it thoroughly, and then took out a bowl of braised pork and a bowl of vegetables to eat with the rice I had just cooked.
After finishing the meal, the extra rice is put into a large basin and stored in the space, so that it can be eaten ready-made when it is busy with farming.
Seeing that there was still a small flame in the stove, Yunxi washed some mung beans and rice and put them in, then added a little more fire, preparing to let it cook slowly until it would be ready to eat by tomorrow.
It's hot and tiring during the busy farming season, so eating more mung bean porridge is a good idea. It's just a pity there's no ice, otherwise a bowl of ice-cold mung bean porridge would be even better.
Although there is no ice right now, Yunxi is planning to store some ice in her space during winter so that she can take it out whenever she wants to eat it in the summer.
After tidying up the kitchen, I went straight back to my room. I checked my watch; it was about ten o'clock.
I usually sleep very late, but thinking about the busy farming season tomorrow, I decided to get some rest early.
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, Yunxi heard a commotion outside. It was only a little past four, not even five o'clock, when the loudspeaker urging the villagers to make offerings started to play.
As expected, the autumn harvest requires a rush, and we started work two hours earlier than usual.
After putting on his old work clothes, washing up, eating a bowl of snacks and two steamed buns until he was full, filling a jug with water, and carrying a basket on his back, he headed towards the brigade headquarters to assemble.
When dividing up the work, they were directly assigned to the corn-picking area, while the potatoes to be dug were given to the villagers who were more familiar with farm work.
It seems that most of the digging work is done by older men and women, probably because they're afraid that younger people might damage the crops.
