Chapter 16 Water Monster

Although the signal was lost again, the good news was that the message was finally delivered before Yu Jiangbai crossed the stream.

However, whether he listens or not is another matter; what if he remains stubborn?

Thinking of this, Yu Ming became worried again.

At this moment, Yu Jiangbai stared blankly at his phone for a while, and then he saw many messages he had just received.

These messages were also sent by my second brother; the messages were received at the same time as the signal was received.

He glanced at his companions who were preparing to wade across the stream. Everyone was organizing their equipment, and some were working on ropes. So he carefully read the information.

"Brother, when you were traversing mountains and dangerous terrain, was anyone bitten by a snake? You brought snakebite medicine, and although the injured person's venom was suppressed, it's only temporary; his condition isn't good."

Yu Jiangbai looked up at Lao Hei, who was sitting there panting and looked unwell, and was very shocked. How did his second brother know about this?

Of course, these things were told by Yu Xiaoluo. Yu Ming didn't have time to bring up the matter of recognizing a younger sister; he just wanted his older brother to believe his sister's words. He didn't know why, but he just trusted this newly recognized younger sister so much.

Yu Jiangbai continued reading: "[If you all go into the water, the wounds of your injured companions will be exposed, attracting the attention of the bloodthirsty water monsters. At that point, none of you will survive. Brother, please believe me, you can try catching a small animal to see what happens.]"

Yu Jiangbai frowned slightly, wondering how his second brother knew. However, he knew that his second brother would never play such a joke on him, nor would he harm him.

Of all his brothers, he was the most serious. If it were Yu Liang, he probably wouldn't even want to talk to him.

Yu Jiangbai looked up and saw that several people had already pulled up the rope, preparing to cross the stream.

The stream is swift, wide, and quite deep; without thorough preparation, it would be difficult to cross safely.

His companions were already calling to him, "Brother Yu, hurry up, I'll swim to the other side first and pull the rope over, then you can wade across the stream together. You should also hurry up and tie yourself up, you can't go alone."

"Wait a minute, don't go into the water yet!" Yu Jiangbai called out to them.

As a seasoned extreme adventure enthusiast, Yu Jiangbai was someone they listened to, and he was the team leader for this expedition. Upon hearing this, everyone stopped and looked at Yu Jiangbai.

"Xiao Zhong, you come with me to find a small animal. The rest of you stay where you are and don't go into the water!"

Zhong Ming is an archer, and a very skilled one at that, a member of the national team. He brought his bow and arrows with him on this expedition.

The two then set to work, searching around and finding two wild rabbits playing.

Zhong Ming nocked an arrow and shot one with a "whoosh." The other bird, like a frightened bird, fled in panic, but it still couldn't escape Zhong Ming's skillful archery.

So, they returned not long after.

No one knew why Yu Jiangbai told them not to go into the water, or why they were hunting at this time and bringing back two rabbits. They all looked at Yu Jiangbai and Zhong Ming in confusion.

Zhong Ming was also puzzled and looked at Yu Jiangbai.

Yu Jiangbai didn't say anything, and threw one of the rabbits into the rushing water.

Because of the arrow wound on its body, the rabbit was thrown into the water, and the water surface was stained red. The current carried the rabbit downstream, and soon it disappeared from sight.

What are we doing? We've just thrown away a rabbit for nothing; we could have improved their meals.

Everyone was a little puzzled.

Yu Jiangbai stared at the water's surface, but nothing had happened except for the increasingly faint bloodstains being washed downstream by the current. He finally breathed a sigh of relief.

It seems nothing has happened.

There was no water monster as my second brother described. I don't know where he heard that rumor from; it was just a hoax.

He was about to give the order to prepare to cross the stream when suddenly a female team member pointed to the water downstream and exclaimed, "Look, what's that?"

All that could be seen were clumps of black things, almost occupying the entire downstream stream, rushing upstream towards this place at an extremely fast speed.

Yu Jiangbai frowned. "Everyone, step back and don't go near the water."

The black things quickly swam over, scrambling for the last remaining traces of blood.

When they emerged from the water to snatch the loot, Yu Jiangbai and the others got a clear look at the appearance of these black monsters.

They looked like otters, but they had gleaming white fangs and sharp claws, their eyes fierce and cold. The monsters, who hadn't managed to snatch a drop of blood, were staring at them.

Yu Jiangbai hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth and threw out another rabbit.

The moment the rabbit entered the water, countless water monsters swarmed up and instantly tore it to pieces. A thick mist of blood spread across the water's surface, but the blood mist was quickly swallowed up by them.

They ate it all up, leaving nothing behind.

Everyone gasped when they saw this.

If they had gone into the water, the consequences would likely have been exactly the same as with this rabbit. The rabbit that had been swept away earlier was already in their stomachs; it had simply disappeared from their sight, and they hadn't seen it.

However, one rabbit was clearly not enough to satisfy the needs of so many water monsters, and several attacked the female team member who was closest to the water's surface.

"Back off, back off!" Yu Jiangbai shouted as he ran towards the female team members.

However, the female team member was already terrified. She froze for two seconds before trying to back away.

Before she could turn and run, a water monster bit her trouser leg, causing the female team member to fall to the ground. Other water monsters came up and, biting her trouser leg, pulled her forcefully into the water.

Yu Jiangbai grabbed the female team member's hand and pulled her upwards, but more and more water monsters bit the female team member's feet and legs, refusing to let go.

"Quickly, come and help!" Yu Jiangbai shouted.

Several people quickly came over to help. The female team member desperately kicked the water monsters with her other foot, and finally, with everyone's help, they reached a safe area.

Those water monsters also have limitations; they cannot leave the water, so they dare not go to places far from water sources.

The female team member was still shaken. She checked her lower limbs and thankfully, she was wearing thick hiking boots, so her feet were fine. However, her legs were not so lucky. Her pants were not as thick as her boots, and she had several bite marks on her calves.

After treating the female team member's wounds, everyone discussed their next steps.

This time, everyone survived thanks to Yu Jiangbai's decision; otherwise, they would all be in the underworld by now.

Therefore, everyone trusted Yu Jiangbai even more.

Yu Jiangbai knew that the fact that nothing serious had happened this time was all thanks to his second brother's reminder. He couldn't help but recall his second brother's words once again: "Don't cross the stream, return the way you came!"

They've already gone halfway, are they really going to give up on this adventure?
