He Caiwei was woken up by the urgent knocking on the door. When she heard her father's voice, she quickly got up, put on a coat, and went to open the door.

Upon hearing his explanation, she quickly buttoned up her clothes, closed the door, and ran over. She first scooped water into the pot, boiled a large pot of water, and then went to check on her mother in the room.

"Mom, didn't you say there were still more than two weeks left? Why don't we go to the hospital? It'll be safer if there's a doctor there." He Caiwei looked at her mother, who was covered in sweat, and felt a little uneasy. Although she didn't know that childbirth would be this painful no matter how it was done, her hands just couldn't help trembling.

“No need, this is my second child, it will be quick. Be good, take out the things I put in your baby’s bag, and give me a cup of warm water. In a little while, boil some more hot water. When you’re cleaning up, have the midwife clean the red envelope for me and make it bigger. Be good, I’ll be fine. Now, cook me a bowl of egg noodles. After I give birth, I’ll have to add brown sugar to the eggs. Thank you for your hard work, my daughter.” He Yuping held her daughter’s hand and began to ramble on with instructions. It was inconvenient not having a maid at home. They had originally planned to ask Aunt Liu, who lived next door to Zhang the tailor, to help with the postpartum care.

Aunt Liu is a hardworking, clean person who doesn't gossip. However, since her due date was after the Lantern Festival, she went to Guangcheng with her son to celebrate the New Year. She couldn't be here right now, so her daughter had to take care of her.

"Mom, don't talk yet, save your energy. I'll go cook you some noodles." He Caiwei wiped her mother's sweat and quickly came out.

Lu Qingfeng got up when he heard the noise and is now making a fire for her in the room.

"Brother, did I wake you up?"

"It's alright, why don't you go in and keep your aunt company first? I'll cook the noodles here and call you later." Lu Qingfeng reached out and held her slightly cold hand, not wanting her to work so hard.

"No need, I'll make noodles first. Second Brother seems to have woken up too. I'll make a lot more later. When the midwife comes, can you help me bring her a bowl? It's the New Year, so people can be well-fed and more attentive." He Caiwei shook her head. She was thinking of adding some water from her space to the noodles.

He Caiwei deftly fried a few eggs, added some water to the pan, and then took out a bowl of pork rib soup from her own space and poured the soup in.

Lu Qingfeng was initially stunned by the rich aroma of bone broth, but then he realized that the little girl had taken it out of her treasure.

He Caiwei quickly cooked a large bowl of noodles, added two poached eggs, and brought it into the house.

"Mom, eat some noodles first. The midwife hasn't come yet. If she's still not here after you finish eating, I'll go check on her." He Caiwei carefully helped her mother up and prepared to feed her noodles.

"Honey, I still have the strength to eat by myself. Could you help me change the bedding here first? The ones I prepared are in the closet. You know, your dad is really something, he's been gone for so long, and I haven't even had time to ask him to change these things." Although He Yuping wanted to do it herself, her stomach was hurting in waves, and she wasn't very agile. She had just opened the closet door but hadn't even taken anything out yet, so she sat down on the chair in front of the closet to ease the pain.

"I understand. Then please don't hold the bowl. Just put it on the table and eat slowly. It's okay." He Caiwei helped her mother put the noodles on the table, then turned around and took out the bedding she had prepared earlier, changing the bedding on the bed.

The bedding had just been changed when Lu Zhiheng brought in an old woman with a wrinkled face. As soon as he entered, he threw the old woman aside and rushed to see how his wife was doing.

"How are you doing, honey?" Lu Zhiheng was still panting heavily as he asked. The midwife was a bit far away, and he had rushed there as fast as he could. Yesterday, because of the rain, the road was a bit slippery, and he almost slipped and fell two or three times.

"The pain has become much more regular, it's okay, don't be nervous." He Yuping reached out to wipe his sweat and was about to put some noodles into his mouth.

"Sweetie, eat by yourself. If it hurts, bite me. We won't have any more children after this one." When Lu Zhiheng saw his wife's pale face and sweaty face, he felt very sorry for her. He reached out and took the chopsticks from her hand, carefully feeding her noodles one bite at a time.

He Caiwei led the midwife, who had just been fed dog food, to the kitchen to warm her up and have some noodles.

"Grandma Lan, please sit down and rest for a bit. I'll cook you a bowl of noodle soup. My mother might not be able to make it so soon." As she spoke, Lu Qingfeng was already cooking the noodle soup.

Soon, a large bowl of bone broth noodles was served, topped with two pieces of meat and a poached egg.

The old lady looked at the two slices of meat and the fried egg, and her mouth was agape with a wide smile.

These days there's not much to gain. When you go to someone's home to deliver a baby, the most you get is an egg, and that's it. This family is so generous; they gave us such a big bowl of meat soup noodles as soon as we arrived.

"Old Lu is truly blessed to have such a beautiful daughter. Not only is she beautiful, but she's also very intelligent. Little girl, you're the most beautiful one around here. And here's such a handsome young man, Lu family boy. Who is this young man? He's not from around here, is he? This old woman has never seen him before." Granny Lan was the most famous midwife in the neighborhood. She always took good care of the mothers who gave birth, and everyone loved to come to her.

“Grandma Lan, it’s the holidays now, and my uncle and aunt have to work during the New Year, so they sent all three of their children to stay with us. This is my older brother.” After explaining, He Caiwei turned around and took out all the noodles she had put in the cupboard. She had just heard a noise from next door; her grandfather had woken up.

It's so cold today, we need to get Grandpa something hot to eat.

She prepared plenty of things for her mother during her postpartum period, so she didn't care about this little bit of noodles.

"Big brother, Grandpa is up. Make him a bowl of noodles. I think second brother is up too. Let's make some together. You should eat some too. We've been busy all night."

Grandma Lan quickly finished her noodles, put down her bowl, and went to her room. Soon after, Lu Zhiheng was kicked out, and He Caiwei became the errand girl, repeatedly pouring hot water into the room.

Just as dawn was breaking, a loud baby cry rang out. He Caiwei glanced at it and quickly turned away. It was so ugly, all red and wrinkled, looking like a little old man.

"Mom, this is so ugly!"

"Silly girl, all babies are born like this. They'll be fine after a few days. It's a boy, probably less than four pounds. He's a little small, but he'll be fine after a while. This little guy has a loud voice; he's a healthy baby." Grandma Lan smiled and wrapped the baby up, placing him in her older sister's arms.

"Grandma, feel this, it seems like there's another one in my belly, and it's still moving." He Yuping wanted to say a few words to her daughter, but suddenly another sharp pain in her stomach drew her attention back to her belly.

"Oh, I knew something was off. Turns out there was another one. No wonder this one is so small. Come on, don't touch it yet, let me take a look." Grandma Lan quickly reached out and touched it again, and found that there was indeed another one, which was now moving around happily.
