Chapter 220 Gu Jinzhou's Thoughts (2/2)
Reading Settings
As Gu Jinzhou listened to her rambling narration, a strange light flashed quickly in his otherwise emotionless eyes.
He didn't move, but just looked at Shen Yishan quietly, his voice very calm: "Wait a moment."
After saying that, he turned and went into the house, leaving the door open.
Shen Yishan stood at the door, her palms sweating with nervousness, craning her neck to peer inside.
About a minute later, Gu Jinzhou came out.
He remained calm, casually closing the door behind him to shut out the view inside, and said to Shen Yishan, "Mine is still here. Put your own things away and don't make a fuss all the time."
His tone was calm, even somewhat lecturing.
Hearing this, Shen Yishan finally felt relieved.
It's good that it's still here, it's good that it's still here.
As long as Gu Jinzhou is still alive, things haven't reached the worst point.
"Then you'd better be careful, I have a feeling something's not right about this!" she added worriedly before turning around and walking heavily back to her room.
Gu Jinzhou watched her figure disappear behind the door before slowly turning around and pushing open his own door again.
He closed the door and bolted it.
The room was quiet, with only the howling wind outside the window.
He walked to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), and expressionlessly reached out, probing into the inconspicuous crack in the wall above the bed.
My fingertips touched nothing.
The auspicious fire jade wrapped in a blue lotus leaf is gone.
Gu Jinzhou stopped moving.
He slowly withdrew his hand and stood still, motionless.
A long time passed.
There was none of the panic or anger I had imagined.
On the contrary, a tremendous sense of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted, emanated from his entire body, almost making him want to take a long, deep breath.
It's lost.
It's finally lost.
He was taking this jade pendant, which he never parted with, to the countryside this time, entirely at his grandfather's command.
Grandpa told him to take the jade pendant and get married to Shen Yishan as soon as possible, and then figure out a way to get his hands on the jade pendant from the Shen family as well.
He couldn't disobey the order, but he felt a deep-seated disgust for it.
He hated Shen Yishan, that brainless, stupid woman, and he hated even more that he was being used as a tool by his family for arranged marriages and to seize some worthless token.
Now, he has lost his own jade pendant.
This task, naturally, fell through.
He no longer needs to marry that woman he finds annoying even to look at.
Gu Jinzhou slowly sat down on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), and a very faint, almost smiling curve appeared at the corner of his mouth on his usually tense face.
The loss of the jade pendant, ironically, presents an opportunity.
An opportunity for him to completely break free from family control and escape this pre-arranged life.
His life shouldn't be lived solely for his family, or for secrets he has no interest in.
He leaned against the cold wall, his mind racing.
what to do?
What's the next step?
He needed a plan, a meticulous plan, one that would allow him to completely escape unscathed.
The storm caused by the loss of the jade pendant only stirred up a huge wave among Shen Yishan, Jin Yuhong, and Gu Jinzhou. For the others at the educated youth settlement, it was just another boring snowy day.
No one knows what secrets are hidden behind these few small jade pendants.
Unbeknownst to anyone, the "opportunity" Gu Jinzhou was waiting for was now being met with a heavy bundle on his back, as he braved the swirling snow and walked steadily towards the Jixiang Brigade. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
