Chapter 185 Legend of the Ancestral Tomb (2/2)
Reading Settings
When Yan Yu returned home, the yard was quiet.
After finishing gnawing on the bone, the big orange cat lay sprawled against the south wall, its plump body spread out like a large orange pancake, lazily basking in the warm winter sun. Seeing Yan Yu return, it merely lifted its eyelids listlessly, not even bothering to twitch the tip of its tail.
Yan Yu pushed open the door and entered the room, where a warm breeze mixed with the faint scent of books wafted towards him.
As expected, Ruan Tang did not stay obediently on the kang (heated brick bed). Instead, she moved a small stool and sat far away from the stove, holding an old book with yellowed pages that she had found from some corner, reading it with great interest.
Hearing the door open, she immediately looked up, her large, almond-shaped eyes instantly brightening as if sprinkled with diamonds.
"Brother, you're back!"
She threw down her book, slipped on her cotton shoes, and ran over like a kitten that had caught the scent of its owner, her movements brimming with undisguised dependence and joy.
Yan Yu put the basket he was carrying on the table, took off his coat which was covered in cold air, and very naturally pulled the little girl who rushed towards him into his arms, warming her with his own burning body heat.
"Yes, I'm back."
He lowered his head and placed a warm kiss on her smooth, full forehead before taking out the lunchbox he had obtained from Yu Hao.
"I'll heat up the dumplings and potato chips for you tonight."
Little White, who had been squatting at the end of the kang (a heated brick bed) collecting mushrooms, suddenly darted over and landed steadily on the table.
It first stretched out its precious little nose and sniffed the lunchbox that Yan Yu had brought back, then curled its lips in disdain, its little face full of disgust.
—What a piece of junk! It smells so cheap and shabby, nothing like the delicious food made by its young master!
It stretched out its tiny mithril claws and forcefully pushed the unsightly lunchbox aside. Then, as if presenting a treasure, it pulled out a blood-red spirit fruit from its dimensional pouch.
It used the tip of its fluffy tail to carefully wipe the fruit again and again before holding it high in front of Ruan Tang with its two front paws, making a proud yet ingratiating "squeak" sound.
Ruan Tang burst out laughing at its lively antics, took the spirit fruit, and took a bite. The sweet juice burst in her mouth instantly.
She ate in small bites, tilting her tiny face up to ask, "Brother, what did you find out?"
Yan Yu carried the little girl in his arms to the warm edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) and sat down next to her, encircling her tightly in front of him. Only then did he tell her everything he had heard from Yu Hao.
"The ancestral graves of the Jin family and Shen Yishan's maternal grandfather's family are both in Mao'er Mountain?"
After hearing this, Ruan Tang's delicate eyebrows furrowed into a small knot.
She tossed the fruit pit into the trash can under the table, rested her chin on her delicate white hand, and fell into deep thought.
After a while, she shook her head violently.
"That's not right, brother."
She looked at Yan Yu, her clear almond-shaped eyes full of doubt, "We've been wandering around Mao'er Mountain for so long, and we haven't seen a single grave, not even a trace of burning paper money."
“Hmm.” Yan Yu nodded, his deep black eyes calm. “I also think that the ancestral graves are a cover-up.”
He paused, then continued his analysis: "Perhaps their ancestors did leave something here. Using the term 'ancestral grave' is simply to instill awe and obsession in their descendants about this place, passing it down from generation to generation to ensure that this secret is not lost."
This explanation instantly enlightened Ruan Tang.
A thought suddenly struck her: the deep marks left by the large boxes pressing down on the cave over the years.
"Is it possible that those boxes in the cave were hidden by these families?"
"But……"
Ruan Tang then thought of another crucial question.
"The Ruan family's ancestral graves are in Haicheng, which is a hundred and eight thousand miles away from here; they're not even near here." (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
