Chapter 168 Speculation (2/2)
Reading Settings
The chests of the person and the cat rose and fell in unison, and the orange cat made a satisfied "gurgling" sound in its throat.
Yan Yu gently placed the kettle on the table without making a sound.
He walked to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), his tall figure blocking some of the light and casting a gentle shadow on her face.
He bent down, his long, slender fingers reaching out to pause an inch from her cheek before gently plucking a strand of hair that clung to her lips.
The hair is soft and smooth.
His fingertips, however, bore thin calluses from years of holding guns; that slight roughness dissipated at the touch, yet seemed to send a faint electric current through them.
The little girl was sleeping soundly; her long eyelashes, like two little brushes, cast beautiful shadows under her eyes.
Perhaps she was dreaming of something delicious, because her little mouth was slightly pouting, and her full lips glistened enticingly under the light.
A sweet, milky scent, mixed with her unique fragrance, forcefully entered Yan Yu's nostrils.
Yan Yu's Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily.
He looked at that sleeping face so close to his, completely unguarded, and his gaze darkened.
He slowly lowered his head, his breath becoming hot as he drew closer.
Just a split second before his cold, thin lips were about to touch that soft spot—
"squeak!"
A white lightning bolt shot out from under the covers with a "whoosh" and landed steadily between Yan Yu and Ruan Tang!
Little White stood upright on its two hind legs, put its two mithril paws on its hips, puffed up its cheeks in anger, and stared intently at Yan-the big bad guy-Yu with its wide, black-purple eyes.
(You rascal! You tried to steal a kiss from your little master! I saw you!)
He looked exactly like a squad leader of a guard team who had caught a flower thief.
Yan Yu abruptly stopped.
He looked at the little thing in front of him, who was more dramatic than the sky, and a smile that he himself did not notice flashed in his eyes.
He stretched out two fingers, quickly and ruthlessly pinched the back of Xiaobai's neck, and lifted it off the kang (a heated brick bed).
"Squeak squeak squeak!"
Little White immediately panicked, kicking its four little paws wildly in the air, its fluffy tail swung like a little windmill, and it made a fierce and short protest.
(Let me go! You big bad guy! I want to protect my little master!)
Yan Yu pretended not to hear, stretched out his arm, and threw it directly to the end of the kang (a heated brick bed) furthest from Ruan Tang.
"squeak……"
Little Whitey traced a pitiful parabola through the air before landing lightly on the blanket, bouncing once. It pawed at the empty space beside it, looking at Yan Yu accusingly, its cries almost choked with tears.
This noise still woke Ruan Tang up.
She opened her eyes groggily, her gaze still misty, like a cat that had just woken up, staring blankly at Yan Yu who was so close to her.
"elder brother?"
She slowly climbed up from the kang (a heated brick bed), rubbed her eyes, and spoke in a soft, sleepy voice that was so sweet it melted one's heart.
"The water is boiled."
Looking at her dazed and innocent appearance, Yan Yu unconsciously lowered his voice, making it even hoarser.
"After we wash up, we'll go to sleep."
"Oh." Ruan Tang obediently responded, slowly putting on her shoes and getting out of bed, even letting out a delicate little yawn.
Yan Yu just watched her quietly as she walked towards the washstand in a daze, his gaze focused and deep.
The room was quiet, with only the flame of the kerosene lamp flickering gently.
He thought it was a bit of a pity that he didn't get to kiss her.
