Yu Hao followed at the back, closing the door behind him.

"Siyuan!" Yu Meijuan screamed and lunged at her son when she saw him being held up and gagged.

"Stop!" Xu Wenbo grabbed her tightly, his eyes red, his voice squeezed out through clenched teeth.

In the past few days, the people living in the surrounding houses have been looking at them with increasingly strange eyes.

People think that the couple is awful, even mistreating their relatives' children.

Xu Wenbo wasn't stupid; he had already sensed impending doom and dared not let his wife go crazy again.

Uncle Yu stared coldly at the couple, his gaze finally settling on Xu Wenbo as if he were looking at an inanimate object.

"Tonight, I will see Yu Siyuan off."

His voice was as flat as a bowl of water, devoid of any emotion.

"His return-to-city paperwork will be handled tomorrow. We will take him directly to the port city, and after obtaining your father's keepsake, we will naturally return it."

He paused, then uttered the last few words.

"The old man said he wouldn't care what happened after that."

"You all better take care of yourselves."

After saying that, Uncle Fish didn't look at the two of them again and turned to leave.

Back at the educated youth settlement, the person who stayed behind had already packed his luggage.

Uncle Yu took the luggage and waved to the two people supporting Yu Siyuan.

The two men immediately took the still struggling Yu Siyuan and quickly disappeared into the night at the village entrance, getting into a black sedan that had been parked there at some point.

Uncle Yu then turned around and looked at Yu Hao.

“Xiao Hao,” his voice softened slightly, but it was still commanding, “Grandpa said you shouldn’t go back for the Spring Festival this year. Next year during Qingming Festival, your brother will come to pick you up to go to the army. When you get to the army, do a good job.”

After saying that, he raised his rough, large hand and patted Yu Hao's shoulder twice.

Before Yu Hao could react, he turned around and strode away into the darkness.

Yu Hao stared blankly in the direction where Uncle Yu had disappeared, feeling as if a piece of his heart had been hollowed out, leaving him feeling empty and cold.

The man who had stayed behind to pack his luggage walked up to him and said respectfully, "Second Young Master, we should rest now."

"Oh, okay..." Yu Hao came back to his senses and scratched his head awkwardly. "Um... don't call me Second Young Master anymore, just call me Haozi."

The man bowed slightly, but his tone remained unchanged.

"Yes, Second Young Master."

Yu Hao: "..."

Forget it, I'm too tired.

As dawn broke, the workers' whistles on the reed beds rang out as always, sharp and long, piercing through the morning mist.

When Yan Yu arrived, he noticed that the atmosphere was a bit strange.

The commune members and educated youth gathered in twos and threes, whispering among themselves, their faces full of undisguised excitement and curiosity.

"Have you heard? That educated youth from the Xu family has returned to the city!"

"Really? Weren't you working here just yesterday?"

"It's absolutely true! They said someone from their family came and took them away overnight! This morning, someone drove to the brigade headquarters to handle the paperwork, saying there was a very urgent matter at home!"

Yan Yu listened to these discussions, his gaze sweeping across the crowd before finally settling on Yu Hao, who was engrossed in cutting reeds.

The kid didn't say a word today, but his sickle swings were much more ferocious than usual, each strike accompanied by a whooshing sound, as if he was using all his strength.

Yan Yu didn't ask anything.

He knew in his heart that the Yu family's knife had finally come down.

The hot potato was finally gone, which was a relief and a new beginning for Yu Hao.

In the days to come, this kid should just diligently follow the methods he was given to train his body and wait to enlist.

Yan Yu withdrew his gaze, walked to his designated area, and expressionlessly swung the first scythe. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
