At first I was a little restrained, but after eating two, I completely let loose.

Finally, Yu Hao and Yu Siyuan each devoured seven or eight large steamed buns and drank two large bowls of hot soup, so full that they slumped in their chairs, not wanting to move a single finger.

Yan Yu slowly finished clearing away the dishes and chopsticks, and when he turned around, he saw the two puddles of mud.

His eyes darkened; his patience was about to run out.

Yu Hao felt a chill run down his neck, and his survival instinct kicked in.

He slid off the chair in a flash, scrambled over, and grabbed Yan Yu's leg, tears streaming down his face.

"Brother! Brother! I was wrong! I was really wrong! Please help me again!"

"I told you, I won't help you anymore."

Yan Yu's voice was cold and hard. He looked down at the pendant on his leg, and in his eyes, Yu Hao was not even as bad as a troublesome stone.

Yu Hao was dumbfounded, his heart sinking.

Oh no, his brother is serious this time.

Ruan Tang rested her chin on her hand, having watched the commotion for a while, before slowly speaking: "Do you know what you did wrong?"

Yu Hao nodded quickly, as if grasping at a straw.

Ruan Tang gestured to him: "Tell me about it."

Yu Hao scratched his head, his face contorted with bitterness, and said, "I... I shouldn't have tricked my cousin into going to the countryside without knowing anything. I shouldn't have made the choice for him without considering the consequences, dragging him into this fire pit..."

Before he could finish speaking, Yu Siyuan, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke up.

"No."

The boy's voice was hoarse, yet exceptionally clear.

He interrupted Yu Hao.

"At first, I did come because I was naive and believed my cousin."

Yu Siyuan raised his head. The confusion in his tear-filled eyes had faded, leaving only a heavy, almost overwhelming clarity.

"But today, after seeing my parents... I felt that if I hadn't come, I might have really lost them very soon."

Ruan Tang rested her chin on her hand, her gaze shifting between Yu Hao and Yu Siyuan before finally settling on Yan Yu's face.

There was a hint of mischievous amusement in his eyes, as well as a sense of "don't really push someone to their death."

When Yan Yu met her gaze, his impatience vanished instantly.

The little girl wanted to see what happened next.

Then let her see it.

He then turned his gaze to Yu Hao, who was still lying on the ground, his voice devoid of any warmth: "Tell me, what have you thought through?"

Yu Hao finally breathed a sigh of relief, as if he had been granted a pardon. He quickly got up from the ground, not even bothering to brush the dust off his pants, and his face showed a resolute determination to go all out.

"Brother, I want to take Siyuan back."

He spoke each word with perfect clarity, as if he had used all his strength.

"I'm not going back!"

The one who answered him was not Yan Yu, but Yu Siyuan, who had been silent behind him.

The boy's voice wasn't loud, and it was even hoarse from crying, but those two words hit the ground, cold and hard, resounding with a clear, forceful tone.

Yu Hao whirled around, staring at his cousin in disbelief: "What did you say? Are you crazy? Is this a place fit for a human being? Look at your hands! If you stay here any longer, forget about going to the reed field, you'll be ruined!"

In his desperation, he blurted out, pointing to the pitch-black night outside, "Back to Beijing! I... I'll find a way! Even if I have to sell everything I own, I'll get you back!"

"Then what?"

Yu Siyuan raised his head, his bloodshot eyes staring straight at him. Gone was the previous dependence and innocence; only a cold, shattered clarity remained.

"Go back to see my parents' ashes?" (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
