Ruan Tang glanced at Tao Yuming not far away.
He's doing quite well; the two souls have merged well, his overall energy has improved a lot, and the deathly aura that doesn't belong to a young person has faded.
One merges, the other devours.
Tao Yuming became a newcomer with memories of two lifetimes.
But Jin Yuhong was simply possessive. Her malevolent old soul was poison to this young body; if things continued like this, she wouldn't be far from going mad.
Just as Ruan Tang was pondering, Yan Yu slightly shifted his body to the side.
His tall figure completely blocked out the filthy scene over there.
He said nothing, but simply lowered his hand and accurately grasped her small hand.
His scalding palms enveloped her icy fingertips.
His calloused thumb gently stroked the back of her hand, as if to soothe her, or perhaps to claim ownership.
He took her hand and left this place of trouble without looking back.
The afternoon's work was tedious and lifeless.
The sun was scorching, and the air was thick with the smells of sweat and earth, making it hard to breathe.
Shen Yishan was completely dejected.
She followed behind the group, her movements as she husked corn like a robot, her eyes unfocused.
Several times, the sharp corn leaves cut her fingers, drawing blood, but she seemed oblivious to the pain and continued working numbly.
Lin Xiangnan watched from a distance, so anxious that he kept scratching his head, but he didn't dare to say anything harsh to her.
She couldn't bear to watch any longer, so she moved closer to Ruan Tang, who was leisurely picking corn.
“Ruan Tang,” Lin Xiangnan said in a low voice, her brows furrowed with worry, “what do you think we should do? If this continues, something terrible will definitely happen to her.”
Ruan Tang tossed a plump ear of corn into the basket, and upon hearing this, looked up at her with her large, watery almond-shaped eyes.
She thought for a moment, then replied slowly in her soft, sweet voice:
"Sister Xiang Nan, I advise you not to get involved."
Seeing Lin Xiangnan's wide eyes, she continued:
“You’ve said everything you could and done everything you could. But this is a psychological issue; she has to figure it out herself.”
“She’s stuck in the mud and doesn’t want to climb out. Even if you hand her a hundred ropes, she won’t be able to grab them.”
"You pulled her out this time, but who knows, next time she might fall head over heels for the same person again."
Lin Xiangnan's eyes widened, and she hesitated, "But...but just watch like that? That's too cold-blooded!"
Ruan Tang didn't refute, but instead smiled with her eyes crinkling and her dimples appearing slightly.
She leaned closer, her voice softening, as if she were whispering something.
"Sister Xiang Nan, it's a good thing that you're so kind-hearted."
"But we're here to go to the countryside, not to undergo tribulation."
"If we get involved in someone else's misfortune, what if we end up getting ourselves covered in mud?"
After she finished speaking, she winked playfully, straightened up, patted the dirt off her hands, and continued picking up the next ear of corn.
While working, Ruan Tang thought to herself, "Is it possible that someone else is going through a tribulation and you just happen to pass by, but they're fine while I get struck by lightning and die?"
Like me?
Standing behind Ruan Tang, Lin Xiangnan looked at her charming yet self-righteous demeanor, and all the words in her mouth stuck in her throat.
Yes, they came to work and earn work points, not to be saviors for others.
That's the logic, but looking at Shen Yishan's dejected figure, Lin Xiangnan still felt a tightness in her chest.
Looking at Ruan Tang's relaxed demeanor, she couldn't help but mutter, "Ruan Ruan, you're really carefree."
Ruan Tang didn't turn around; her voice drifted over softly.
"It can't be too small."
"You've become too narrow-minded; you can't appreciate the delicious food your brother makes." (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
