The suffocating panic that had just been suppressed took on an even more ferocious form, silently engulfing him once more.

Yan Yu held her arm, tightening his grip inch by inch.

The force was even more terrifying than before, carrying a kind of fear that she couldn't comprehend, a fear capable of destroying the world.

Ruan Tang was forced to stop speaking.

Confused, she forcefully turned the man's face towards her, making him look at her.

Before she could speak, the man spoke first.

His voice trembled like a withered leaf in the wind, each word chilled with ice, cold and bewildered.

"Tangtang..."

He stared intently at her, his eyes, which had just lost their color, now completely filled with a vast, unfamiliar emptiness.

"What are you talking about...spiritual roots...?"

His hands, which were holding hers, trembled so badly they were almost giving way, and the trembling in his voice betrayed his complete panic.

"Aren't we...aren't we the same kind of people?"

"You...aren't you from the apocalypse?"

These few questions almost drained all his strength.

Ruan Tang watched as the tears that had gathered on his long eyelashes rolled down his cheeks with his uncontrollable trembling.

The man's eyes were filled with pleading.

He was begging her.

He begged her not to give him the answer he couldn't bear.

This realization was like a knife chilled to the bone, stabbing viciously into Ruan Tang's heart.

She didn't understand what the apocalypse was, but she understood the profound sense of alienation in his words.

So this is the root of his suffocating possessiveness and unease all along!

What he feared was never that she would be in danger.

Rather, he feared that there was an unseen, bottomless chasm between them that could take her away from him forever at any moment!

The air froze.

She looked at him, at the desolate despair in his eyes, and her throat felt like it was filled with scalding lead; she couldn't utter a single word.

She could only shake her head.

He shook his head desperately, with all his might, again and again.

Tears rolled down his reddened eyes, hitting his chest and splashing out in a cold spray.

"No……"

She finally found her voice, which was incredibly hoarse.

"I'm not..."

She stopped abruptly before she could finish her sentence.

Because she saw that the glimmer of light that Yan Yu had managed to gather in his pupils dimmed and went out the moment she uttered her denial, like a candle flickering in the wind.

After the bloodshot color faded, only a deathly gray remained in those eyes.

Even the obsession and madness have settled down, turning into a void that can devour everything.

He'll go crazy.

If she dared to finish saying that sentence, he would go completely insane.

Ruan Tang suddenly tightened her arms around his head, then pounced on him without a care, fiercely yet tenderly sealing his lips with hers once more.

"Yan Yu!"

She cupped his face in her hands, silencing all his unspoken despair with her lips, and fiercely kissed him.

"Listen!"

"I don't care what your world is like, but in my world, 'bond' is a Daoist couple bond! It binds two people's lives, souls, bones, and blood together, so that they can't be separated even if they turn to ashes!"

She stared at him through teary eyes, her voice trembling and harsh.

So what if we're not from the same world?

"I said we'd form a pact, and from this day forward, my world is yours! And your world must be mine too!"

"We are the world!"

She practically shouted the last sentence.

That heavy sobbing sounded like a thunderclap, striking his confused mind.

The man's body, stiff as a stone statue, trembled violently at her words.

A faint, forcibly ignited flicker of light finally appeared in his lifeless eyes. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
