"Uncle Chen, there's no need for that."
"Oh! Of course! Of course!"
Chen Fengshan suddenly sat up straight, and the look in his eyes when he looked at Yan Yu was no longer one of admiration, but rather one of fanaticism as if he were looking at a savior.
"Engineer Yan, you saved our entire brigade's life today! This...this precious machine! It's simply miraculous!"
He pointed at the still-humming machine, so excited he was incoherent.
Li Fengshou, Chen Defu, and the others who followed also nodded frantically like chickens pecking at rice, their faces no longer showing any of their previous disdain, only awe and admiration.
Chen Fengshan took a deep breath, as if he had made up his mind, and spoke in an extremely solemn tone.
"Engineer Yan, we have a favor to ask!"
"As you can see, this machine is a great thing, but we roughnecks only know how to use brute force. What do we know about these things? If we break it, wouldn't that be a terrible waste?"
He stared at Yan Yu with pleading eyes, his earnestness almost overflowing.
"So... I'd like to hire you as our Jixiang Brigade's 'technician'! You'll be in charge of this machine! From now on, the tractors, water pumps, and everything else in the brigade will be under your control!"
"Work points...we'll give you the highest possible work points, twelve points! Is that alright?"
"You can do whatever you want normally, and if there are any problems with the machine, just lend a hand!"
The room fell silent as soon as he said that.
Twelve work points a day!
This is the highest work point that even the strongest laborers couldn't earn by working from dawn till dusk!
And you don't have to work in the fields exposed to wind and sun!
This is simply an incredible windfall!
All eyes were fixed on Yan Yu, burning with envy and mixed with barely concealed jealousy.
Yan Yu didn't even lift his eyelids.
He simply turned his head slightly, lowered his eyes, and gazed deeply at Ruan Tang beside him.
In those unfathomable eyes, an intense, unyielding emotion churned, as if silently questioning:
"Tangtang, are you satisfied with this result?"
Ruan Tang's heart softened and burned under his gaze.
She knew he didn't care about being a technician, much less about those twelve work points.
From beginning to end, he only cared about her opinion.
She tilted her head up to meet his focused and affectionate gaze, the smile in her eyes like shattered starlight, dazzlingly bright.
Then, she tiptoed again and whispered something in his ear in a soft, gentle voice that only the two of them could hear.
"...Whether I'm satisfied or not is not important."
Her voice paused, tinged with a hint of shyness, yet remained perfectly clear.
"The important thing is that I don't want my...brother to suffer too much."
Yan Yu lowered his eyes and stared straight at her.
His gaze was incredibly captivating; in his deep eyes, there was no attempt to conceal the burning passion that wanted to devour her alive.
Ruan Tang's cheeks flushed under his gaze. She smiled and gently nudged the man's arm, indicating that the captain was still waiting for a reply.
Yan Yu then raised his head at the little girl's prompting, looked at Chen Fengshan, and his cold eyes swept around, taking in everyone's expressions.
"Uncle Chen, you're too kind. Just call me Xiao Yan."
"There's no need to set up a technical position. Just call me if you need me, and I'll go to work as usual every day."
He changed the subject, his voice carrying an air of undeniable authority.
"Exactly, could you please arrange some easier work for my Tangtang outside of the busy farming season?"
"She's frail and can't handle strenuous activity." (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
