Chapter 41 The Joys of "Nest Building" (3/3)
Reading Settings
After tidying up the three main rooms, Yan Yu went to the kitchen, put the sideboard and cabinets in place, and then took out the tableware and cooking utensils he had carefully selected and arranged them neatly. The kitchen instantly had a sense of life.
After they had thoroughly tidied up Ruan Tang's courtyard, the two went to Yan Yu's courtyard next door.
The courtyard here is obviously much more perfunctory in its arrangement.
Yan Yu never planned to live here, so everything was kept simple.
He took out a straw mat and a rattan mat from his storage space and laid them on the kang (a heated brick bed). He also put on an old quilt that he had brought from Beijing, and then he prepared to go back.
Ruan Tang helplessly stopped the man; this was far too perfunctory.
After thinking for a moment, she took out some furniture that she had previously collected from Mayor Bai's mistress's house from her own space.
A kang cabinet that looks a bit old, a slightly worn wooden box, an eight-immortal table, and two long benches.
These items are made of good materials, but their styles are outdated, so they fit perfectly here.
Soon, the empty room gained a more authentic, lived-in feel.
Yan Yu looked at the little girl, who was so earnestly busy with their "disguise," and the doting look in his eyes was almost like honey.
After confirming that everything was in order, the two locked the door and prepared to return to the east courtyard.
Upon reaching the courtyard gate, Yan Yu closed it tightly, but did not use the outer lock.
Ruan Tang was curious when she saw him close his eyes, and an invisible spiritual force instantly emanated from him.
The wooden bolt on the inside of the gate clicked and settled steadily into the iron grooves on either side of the gate.
"That way, if someone knocks on the door, I'll know immediately and can teleport over to open it without giving myself away." He turned around, met Ruan Tang's surprised gaze, and explained succinctly.
Ruan Tang: "..."
Alright, she'll get used to the boss's actions.
After returning home, the two tidied up briefly, ate dinner, and then went to bed early.
Lying on the soft and comfortable kang, with the fresh scent of new wood and his pleasant aroma lingering around her nose, Ruan Tang felt an indescribable sense of peace throughout her body.
She turned over and nestled into Yan Yu's arms.
In the quiet darkness, she could clearly hear his steady and powerful heartbeat.
One after another.
Like the most beautiful lullaby.
She soon fell asleep.
In the darkness, Yan Yu slowly opened his eyes, his deep pupils shining brightly in the night.
He lowered his head and, by the faint moonlight from the window, sketched the peaceful sleeping face of the girl in his arms.
He pulled her closer to his chest, tightening his arms as if he wanted to meld her into his very bones.
This is his.
Yan Yu lowered his head and, with restraint yet reverence, placed a burning kiss on her forehead. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
