Chapter 13 The Thirteenth Day of Not Running Anymore The thirteenth day of not running...
Chen Bo and the monk finished bathing and came out at six o'clock.
Both of them had a fruitful trip; although they went to small cities, they earned quite a bit.
The fat man chuckled, "This time we can earn five thousand, and when Fengzi comes back, we might even make six thousand in total."
“Where could you find so many?” Chen Bozheng said. “Fengzi went to Dongguan, where the prices probably aren’t much lower than in Shenzhen.”
“That’s still a profit.” The fat man’s eyes narrowed with joy. “Brother Zheng, how about I switch with Fengzi later, so Fengzi can rest at home and I can go out with you guys?”
Chen Bozheng didn't object. He ate a peanut and said to the fat man, "We'll talk about it later."
The monk suddenly glanced at his watch. "It's so late, why hasn't Fengzi returned yet?"
The fat man then came to his senses. "Yeah, shouldn't Fengzi have gone back earlier than you all? Dongguan is much closer than Guangzhou or Foshan."
As soon as the fat man finished speaking, the table fell silent.
Chen Bo and the monk exchanged a glance, both worried that something might happen.
Chen Bozheng stood up and said to Wen Chan, "You stay at home. Fatty, Monk, and I will go to the bus station to wait."
Wen Chan looked at the table of uneaten food and said, "Then I'll leave the food for you. If you get hungry on the way, buy something to eat first."
Chen Bo nodded to Wen Chan, went to the kitchen to get a cleaver, and took the monk and Fatty with him. After taking a few steps, he turned back and held out his hand to Wen Chan, "Where did you put that pair of scissors before? Give it to me."
Wen Chan blushed, silently went back into the house to get the scissors for him.
Chen Bo handed the scissors to the fat man, saying, "Keep these. If anything happens, remember to stab your butt and thigh, but not other places."
The fat man readily agreed, then exclaimed in surprise, "These scissors look pretty new! Where did you get them?"
Wen Chan showed no sign of guilt.
That afternoon, she discovered she had time-traveled, so she bought a pair of scissors for protection, assuming Chen Bozheng didn't know. Unexpectedly, he actually...
"Stop asking unnecessary questions and hurry up and go," Chen Bo urged.
The three of them went outside, and Chen Bo was locking the door from the outside when he instructed Wen Chan, "We don't know when we'll be back. If you're sleepy, go to sleep, okay?"
Wen Chan nodded and watched Chen Bozheng and the other two leave, feeling somewhat worried.
Chen Bo was telling her to sleep, but Wen Chan couldn't fall asleep.
She watched her watch go from seven o'clock to eight o'clock and then to eleven o'clock, her mind becoming increasingly agitated.
It was almost midnight when Wen Chan paced around the room, wondering whether she should climb over the wall to go out and find someone to help her, when she heard Chen Bozheng and the others' voices coming from the doorway.
She rushed out.
Chen Bozheng and his group finally returned. Wen Chan glanced at Chen Bozheng's face but didn't find any injuries. Upon closer inspection, she noticed that Lin Qingfeng's eyes were swollen, his leg was limping, and he looked listless and dejected.
"What's wrong?" Wen Chan quickly brought over a chair for Lin Qingfeng to sit down.
Just as Lin Qingfeng was about to speak, he aggravated the injury at the corner of his mouth and gasped in pain.
"We were robbed," Chen Bozheng said succinctly.
"Robbery? Where is it? Have you called the police?" Wen Chan's heart skipped a beat.
Lin Qingfeng said shamefully, "It's my fault for being useless and being deceived." He clenched his fists, his face full of anger and guilt, and he lowered his head, too ashamed to face anyone.
"It's not your fault," Chen Bozheng said. "You didn't know that the bank was a fake."
He squatted down and looked at Lin Qingfeng's foot, then said to the monk, "It's a sprain. Go get some medicated oil and rub it on."
The monk didn't say anything, but went inside and brought out the medicinal oil.
Seeing Chen Bo about to correct Lin Qingfeng's foot, Wen Chan pulled the fat man aside: "What happened? How did it get like this?"
The fat man, also looking embarrassed, said, "Sister-in-law, don't ask anymore, anyway..."
Wen Chan glared at him. "Are you going to tell me or not?"
The fat man was timid and confessed immediately.
After hearing the whole story, Wen Chan couldn't hold back anymore. Lin Qingfeng was really unlucky this time. Chen Bo and the monk knew that he was rather thin and weak, so they specially sent him to a nearby place and didn't give him too much money. They just wanted him to go and check things out first.
They gave a total of three thousand.
And then, just like that, Lin Qingfeng ran into a fake bank. He went in and told someone he wanted to buy government bonds. The price they offered was quite low, even cheaper than in Shantou by two yuan. Lin Qingfeng was overjoyed and took out three thousand yuan to buy them all.
Then the man took the money and chased Lin Qingfeng out with his accomplices.
Lin Qingfeng never expected this to happen. Before he could even process what was going on, he insisted on arguing with them, demanding either his money back or the treasury bonds.
The swindlers chased after him and beat him. Only then did Lin Qingfeng realize something was wrong. He was kicked a few times and twisted his leg. He went to call the police and went back with them. The people in the fake bank said they didn't know him and that he was there to extort money.
"Is this really a fake bank?" Wen Chan frowned.
The fat man said with a wry smile, "Whether it's true or not doesn't matter. The fact that someone can open such a place means they must have some connections. I think this money is just going down the drain."
Lin Qingfeng seemed to hear what the fat man said, let out a sob, and tears fell down his face.
"Fatty!" Chen Bo gave Fatty a warning look.
The fat man made a gesture of pulling his mouth shut.
Wen Chan said to Chen Bozheng, "You don't need to scold Fatty. I made him tell me. If you hadn't told me, how would I have known what happened?"
"So what if you know? The money's gone, it's gone." Chen Bo frowned. "Don't bring this up again."
He glanced at Lin Qingfeng, who had always been prone to overthinking.
Wen Chan was stunned for a moment. She had waited all night, and was tired and sleepy, but she still didn't dare to relax. Now that she had asked a question, she was being scolded. She was furious and sneered, "Do you mean you're afraid I'll blame someone?"
Chen Bo was taken aback. "I didn't mean that."
Wen Chan glared at him, turned around and went back into the house. After she got back, she angrily punched the quilt. In her agitation, she found that her chest hurt a little.
Wen Chan clutched her chest, took the medicine, and wanted to drink some water, but there was no water in the room. She felt ashamed to go out now, so she could only eat dry food.
"Idiot Chen Bozheng, what are you talking about, you don't treat me like one of your own at all."
"I asked these questions because I wanted to know what really happened. How could I blame his brother? That big idiot, that stinking idiot."
The loss Lin Qingfeng suffered was neither a huge nor a small one.
But Wen Chan and Chen Bozheng have started a cold war.
To be precise, it was Wen Chan who unilaterally refused to pay attention to Chen Bozheng.
She was never a good-tempered person to begin with. If it weren't for the fact that the original owner of this body did something to wrong Chen Bozheng, and if she hadn't had some romantic feelings for Chen Bozheng, Wen Chan would have divorced him and left long ago.
With her understanding of the future of the financial industry and the skills she honed on Wall Street, she could make money anywhere.
"Sister-in-law, lunch is here, let's eat together." Fatty greeted Wen Chan as she came out of the house.
Wen Chan looked up and saw Chen Bozheng, the monk, and Lin Qingfeng sitting at the dining table.
Wen Chan kept a straight face and said, "No need, I'll go out to eat."
She turned and left, still angry.
The fat man watched her leave, sighed, and didn't know how to comfort her.
He looked down and glanced at Chen Bozheng out of the corner of his eye.
Chen Bozheng said with a dark face, "Aren't you going to follow her? She's sickly; if she faints outside, something bad will happen."
The fat man said "Oh," realized what was happening, and quickly chased after them.
"Sister-in-law, wait for me! What do you want to eat?" Wen Chan's mood initially improved when she heard footsteps, but when she heard Fatty's voice, she turned around and her face darkened. "What, it's you?"
The fat man caught up, panting, and wiped his sweat from his brow. "If it wasn't me, who else could it be?"
A thought suddenly struck him, and he chuckled and joked, "What, you think it's Brother Zheng?"
Wen Chan rolled her eyes. "Don't talk nonsense. I didn't mean that."
The fat man chuckled and said, "Sister-in-law, are you still angry with Zheng Ge? Last night, Zheng Ge..."
"Hey." Wen Chan pointed at the fat man, "Stop. If you say anything more about him, go back. I don't want to come out and get angry."
The fat man had no choice but to shut up.
He wanted to explain that Zheng Ge didn't have a problem with Wen Chan last night, but Wen Chan wouldn't listen.
Wen Chan walked a distance before realizing she had gone the wrong way. She was originally going to a nearby restaurant, but she had gone to the wrong place.
"Hey, those two foreigners over there are really something, haggling over something that costs only five cents."
"It's true, those two foreigners are dressed so well, how come they're so stingy?"
Two older women walked past Wen Chan, gossiping and glancing back as they went.
Wen Chan looked in the direction they were looking, but was taken aback. The fat man caught up and also saw the two foreigners. He exclaimed in surprise, "Aren't those Boss Ye's two guests?"
Wen Chan looked away and said to the fat man, "It's the two of them."
Seeing that Wen Chan was willing to talk to him, the fat man made conversation, "Why did those two foreigners come here? Their place is far from here. And aren't those two foreigners very rich? I heard they tip the hotel staff at least a hundred dollars."
Wen Chan said to the fat man, "Why do you care so much about what others say? Let's go, pretend we didn't see anything."
She was in a bad mood and didn't have time to deal with those two foreigners.
As Wen Chan and Fatty walked past the two foreigners, they clearly heard the foreigner named Jack excitedly say in French, "Deng Lin, once we do this deal, we'll be rich, and we'll never have to worry about money again."
The foreigner named Deng Lin also looked delighted: "That's right, now we're just waiting for the Chinese man to ship the goods to Turkey."
Wen Chan's ears twitched, her eyes swept over the two foreigners, and she looked away before they noticed her gaze, then hurriedly followed the fat man past.
