Wang Ruizhe met Bi Lei twice, once at a party at Shishi's house and the other time at the Zhao family's wedding. Both times, Bi Lei was dressed smartly. While not exactly fashionable or avant-garde, she was simple and elegant.

Bi Lei has two major advantages: first, she's tall and slender, a natural clothes hanger; second, her round face makes her look younger. Wang Ruizhe isn't someone who pays much attention to fashion, so he greatly admires the simple and neat Bi Lei.

Little did anyone know, these clothes were all bought by Bi Lei's mother, and she only wore them when going out. They were all brand new, and just needed an iron before going out, so of course they looked very neat.

Wang Ruizhe was silent for a moment: "Bi Lei?"

Having understood the tone of his question, Bi Lei gave him a disgruntled glare.

"Is this how you pursue people? No wonder you're still single at your age."

If a guy keeps contacting you after meeting you once, sending you virtual gifts, and asking for your address, what else could it be but pursuing you? Bi Lei isn't stupid; it's just that they're from completely different countries, and she figured there was no chance. So she didn't bother pretending in front of Wang Ruizhe.

Honestly, Wang Ruizhe is a germaphobe; he can accept a girl who isn't fashionable or beautiful.

But this is so dirty!

Bi Lei wore a pair of dusty black cotton shoes. The temperature was very low, and her hands were red with cold. She held a pair of woolen gloves whose original color was no longer discernible. Her thick coat was smeared with some kind of paint.

"What are you doing?" Wang Ruizhe asked curiously.

"The village primary school needs repairs, and I'm working on it."

Bi Lei's tone was so matter-of-fact that it left Wang Ruizhe speechless, prompting him to utter a thoughtless remark.

"Why don't you hire someone?" He regretted it as soon as he said it. If he could think of something, wouldn't the other party have thought of it too?

Sure enough, Bi Lei didn't miss the chance to mock him. She said, "Tsk, what a spoiled young master."

Bi Lei's tone was calm, but those words still made him uncomfortable.

He added, "What I mean is, it's already winter, so it's not a good time to start construction."

Bi Lei pointed in the direction and led him forward while explaining, "You're overthinking it. It's just a village primary school with only about 20 children. They're all illiterate or semi-literate. This area is mostly populated by elderly people left behind, so the children's education is a problem. The sooner I fix this, the sooner they can learn. Time is the most precious thing."

Wang Ruizhe's heart seemed to be struck; he looked at the girl.

In today's materialistic world, most girls wear elaborate makeup, expensive jewelry, and fashionable clothes. Their goal is to achieve a better life in the bustling metropolis.

There's nothing to criticize about this; people strive for better things, just as water flows downhill. In Wang Ruizhe's view, any legal and ethical philosophy of life deserves respect.

Bi Lei graduated from a prestigious university and came from a well-off family. At the very least, she had no worries about food and clothing (this can be seen from her behavior). Yet, she was willing to settle down in the countryside.

Aren't you surprised that I like you?

Neither of them are the type to beat around the bush, so they'd rather be direct.

"I'm a stunningly beautiful woman in my prime, with a bright future ahead of me. What does loving me amount to?"

"Yeah, what does loving you even mean?" Wang Ruizhe couldn't figure out what he liked about Bi Lei either. He murmured the words aloud.

“Of course you have good taste!” Bao Yiting, who had been quietly observing the situation, suddenly interjected.

With Leilei's personality, she stays cooped up in the village all day. Now that a decent-looking guy has finally come along, she's not going to hold on to him. Does she really want to be an old maid forever? It's not like I'm the one who's already lost all my allure for men.

Wang Ruizhe gave him a deep look and handed her the suitcase he had brought over.

"I'd like to take a walk with Bi Lei, could you do that for me?"

Bao Yiting felt a chill run down her spine after being looked at by Wang Ruizhe.

She took the suitcase from the seemingly refined but actually depraved man, and was about to leave when she suddenly stopped and said something to Wang Ruizhe.

"The village kids are really right to praise you!" With that, he turned and slipped away. Only the clattering of the suitcase wheels remained on the village dirt road.

Wang Ruizhe put his hands in his coat pockets: "Tell me how you praised me."

What a refined scoundrel!

"Oh, they say you're handsome and dashing."

"Didn't you say that most of the children in the village are semi-literate? Yet they're quite good at learning idioms."

It's the dead of winter, and it's not suitable to walk outside. There is a place in the village where she can work, it's a bit shabby, but it's still better than freezing outside.

The two entered Bi Lei's office, where Bi Lei lit the stove. She then took a faded rag from a drawer, pulled out a long bench, wiped it clean, and gestured for Wang Ruizhe to sit down.

"Go ahead and say it, I'm listening." The two of them had no chance again; the other person had come all this way, they couldn't just turn them away. She looked at Wang Ruizhe with a hint of regret. He was quite handsome, though a bit weak—what a pity.

"This is a very poor place." He had learned about this place before he came.

Bi Lei poured him a glass of water from the thermos, then took a few leaves from a small porcelain jar in the drawer and tossed them in. Seemingly aware of his meticulous nature, she added a special explanation: "These are sun-dried tea leaves from the locals; they're good for reducing internal heat."

Wang Ruizhe took it, but didn't drink it; instead, he held it in his hand and warmed it for a moment.

"Were you scared by the hardships of rural life?" Bi Lei didn't care much. Why would she come if she wasn't poor?

"It's not just about being poor. Courier services can't get in here, let alone food delivery. No matter how hot it is, the cold here will freeze you through." So, young man, don't fall in love with me, it won't work out.

You did not answer my question directly.

Seeing his serious expression, Bi Lei also abandoned her usual playful attitude.

"Why is this place so bad? The vast world offers so much to be done!"

"You know perfectly well that's not what I meant. You have so many other options, so why do you insist on staying in the countryside?"

You wouldn't believe me even if I told you.

"Tell me first."

"I will use all my knowledge to build every inch of China's land."

Seeing the disbelief in his eyes, Bi Lei returned a firm look to him.

"What you find laughable is what my heart desires."

Unlike Bi Lei, Wang Ruizhe didn't find her ridiculous. He found himself ridiculous.

Born from within, all the shock came from this girl.

How could we possibly make him give up?

His gaze swept across the room inch by inch, finally settling on Bi Lei.

Perhaps to keep warm without hindering her work, Bi Lei's cotton overcoat cuffs were tightly tied with two wide strips of cloth.

It's still so untidy and unclean.

Although she looked exactly the same as he had just seen, he felt that Bi Lei was now shining brightly, and the light emanating from her was almost burning his eyes.
