Chapter 107 Showdown

Fu Yingzhou nodded, offering no explanation. It was indeed he who had concealed the truth first. Excuses were futile.
He readily admitted it, without resorting to flowery words that would win him favor.
Xiang Xinran looked at Fu Yingzhou: "Your relationship is between the two of you, we won't interfere. After all, we're outsiders."
"You're Shishi's good sisters, how can you be considered outsiders?" Fu Yingzhou's survival instincts were still very strong.
Seeing that he was still somewhat reasonable, Xiang Xinran continued, "Besides the two of you, everyone else is an outsider. Being divorced is your past experience, and Shi Shi is divorced too. That's nothing, but her past isn't a secret. Everything about you is unknown to her. Isn't that a bit inappropriate?"
To be honest, this was his first serious relationship. He had only shown Shi Shi his medical records before. It was because he had a feeling that if he got too carried away in the relationship, she might stay far away.
His intuition was correct; Shi Shi did want a sweet romance, but she wasn't the original owner of this body, and love and marriage didn't occupy a significant portion of her life.
In her mind, she could live a good life without romance, but losing money and a career would be terrible.
Fu Yingzhou had tried twice to test the waters, inviting her to his workplace. After all, he'd heard Zhang Feng complain about his girlfriend's overly strict checks on him, which made him miserable. But Shi Shi's complete abandonment of him seemed off. She had too little dating experience. He couldn't judge, and could only come to a somewhat disheartening conclusion: Shi Shi didn't like him that much.
He wasn't one to dwell on things, and feelings of dejection were certainly not something he would exhibit. As long as Shi Shi stayed with him, she would inevitably fall in love with him. It was only a matter of time.
Fu Yingzhou raised his head: "It was wrong of me not to disclose my marital history." He didn't explain anything; Shi Shi had never asked even once. If she had been even slightly curious, he would have told her everything.
Bao Yiting knew that Shi Shi hadn't inquired about it herself, and she felt that her previous judgment might have been wrong. Of the two, this one was clearly more impulsive.
She was relieved: "We also want to apologize to you. Asking about these things was an invasion of your privacy."
Fu Yingzhou shook his head: "Divorce is no privacy issue."
Bi Lei was determined to stick to her stern face today: "Are you still in contact with your ex-wife? Do you two have children?"
"No contact. No children."
Bi Lei wanted to ask more, but Bao Yiting gave her a wink, so she decisively shut her mouth.
"Both of you have met each other's friends, which shows that you are serious about your relationship. You and Shi Shi have both experienced emotional setbacks. I hope this relationship will bring you true happiness."
Fu Yingzhou wanted to explain that he hadn't experienced any heartbreak. But then he felt he should say that to Shi Shi.
"Thank you, I will cherish her."
Having gotten the answer they wanted, the sisterhood retreated.
Fu Yingzhou went outside and saw Shi Shi and Xiao Tao chatting happily, so he joined them. He discovered that the two were discussing music arrangement. Then he went to find his third brother.
Fu Jizhou and Liu Minghao greeted the Pekingese group and then went to play games. Lin Sui is a very tech-savvy girl. She has a dedicated e-sports room at home, and after Shi Shi came, she wanted to have some time to relax, so she bought the best equipment and even bought cute-colored keyboard caps and redecorated it.
When Fu Yingzhou arrived, he witnessed an eye-watering scene. Fu Jizhou and Liu Minghao were wearing fluffy cat-ear headphones and banging on them wildly.
After the two of them finished their game, Fu Yingzhou coughed lightly.
Fu Jizhou took off his headphones: "What's wrong, Second Brother?"
"When you go home recently, tell me a little bit about it. I have a girlfriend."
Fu Jizhou raised an eyebrow upon hearing this: "Okay." This is preparation for meeting the parents later.
My eldest uncle and aunt are definitely happy, but I wonder what my grandfather thinks. However, even my grandfather can't stop my second brother.
After Fu Yingzhou left, the two stopped playing games. Liu Minghao pulled him aside and whispered, "Your brother's progress is too fast, isn't it? Could it be that before Shi Shi got divorced...?"
Fu Jizhou shook his head: "I ran into him when my brother came to the school to deliver something."
"I never would have guessed that my second brother is such a marriage fanatic," Liu Minghao exclaimed in amazement.
"Maybe I've met the right person."
After a busy day, I finally saw all my friends off. Since Bi Lei had to work on Monday, she booked a flight for that evening, planning to take Bao Yiting with her.
Shi Shi sprawled on the sofa without any regard for her image, a pair of soft, large hands massaging her shoulders. She immediately chuckled: "Little Niu, that's a good attitude."
"Are you tired?" His voice was gentle and warm, making Shi Shi feel drowsy.
Shi Shi closed her eyes and made a nasal "hmm".
He's not a procrastinator, and concealing his marital history isn't a huge deal, but it's not insignificant either.
"Can we talk?"
Upon hearing this, Shi Shi knew that Fu Yingzhou had something to say to her. So she sat up and leaned back on the sofa: "Sure. What do you want to talk about?"
"About me. Aren't you curious about my past?"
Shi Shi knew that Bao Yiting and the others must have talked about something.
“Mysterious men are more attractive, but if you want to talk about it, of course I’m willing to listen.”
"I've been divorced once. My last marriage lasted about two years."
Shi Shi wasn't as surprised as she'd imagined. After all, Fu Yingzhou was already quite old. She just wanted a normal relationship right now. Marriage was still a long way off. She didn't even ask if he had children. Instead, she asked curiously, "Why did you divorce?"
Fu Yingzhou recalled everything about Ling Xiaoyue, and only after organizing his thoughts did he begin to speak: "It's more of a partnership than a marriage. We grew up in the same compound. She's an outstanding scientist. Compared to her high intelligence, she's emotionally detached. However, in the eyes of our elders, this isn't a problem. Because I'm quite detached too. Our families put in a good match, and we got our marriage certificate."
Fu Yingzhou paused here, swallowing the rest of his sentence. Ling Xiaoyue wasn't simply cold-hearted; she suffered from emotional deprivation disorder. After all, this concerned someone else's privacy, and he wasn't a blabbermouth.
"And then?" Shi Shi asked.
"Later, when there was a top-secret national research project, she signed up and then asked me for a divorce."
Shi Shi: ? ? ?
"No way? This is so sudden!"
Fu Yingzhou felt that anyone would be making a fuss over nothing, so he explained, "We have a plan to maintain this marriage. So we agreed to see each other for at least two days each month. But if she joins this project, even the original two days can't be guaranteed."
Fu Yingzhou knew that Ling Xiaoyue was involved in the development of the "super-sized weapon," so her whereabouts needed to be kept strictly confidential. And he was definitely not the kind of man who could be summoned at a moment's notice.
So, the two divorced without a word. Neither family commented. Fu Yingzhou was the most outstanding member of the Fu family, and political resources had been completely allocated to him. He would never back down for Ling Xiaoyue.
As for the Ling family, their decline began with Ling's father's generation. Ling Xiaoyue was the Ling family's hope.
