Chapter 5 Annoying Person
"Stop, don't talk nonsense. All the young ladies who come to the Prince's mansion are of noble status. Don't tarnish their reputation."
The girl lowered her voice, "Well, I didn't tell anyone, I just told you quietly. I didn't even get a good look at what the girl looked like."
"Where?" Lin Ruyi ultimately enjoyed seeing Shen Nanzi make a fool of herself.
"The hexagonal pavilion is right ahead."
Shen Nanzi couldn't listen anymore. She looked at the hexagonal pavilion not far away, her fingers clenched, and her chest heaved violently.
He always embarrassed her in public, slapping her in the face in front of others. The regret in her heart was so intense that she couldn't even stop hating him.
Isn't it said that one can only be with one person in a lifetime?
Why are Xie Yan's words and actions inconsistent with those of the young Xie Yan?
Her body moved forward uncontrollably; she wanted to see who it was.
She dared to have a secret rendezvous in the Prince's residence; Xie Yan truly had no intention of giving her any face at all.
Why should she let Xie Yan have it easy? Let them both lose face!
His gaze was fixed on the hexagonal pavilion, all the way up from the artificial hill.
A pavilion stands at the highest point of the Prince's Mansion, accessible via more than ten steps.
At this moment, bamboo curtains were hung around the pavilion, and passersby knew that someone was inside, so they did not go to disturb them.
Shen Nanzi did not hesitate for a moment, lifting her skirt and climbing the steps.
The closer she got, the more uneasy she became, afraid of seeing something that would embarrass her.
Although it's broad daylight, nothing too sordid could possibly happen.
However, given Xie Yan's actions over the years, she dared not gamble.
As she approached the pavilion, her heart pounded and her breathing became rapid.
Through the gaps in the bamboo curtain, a moon-white brocade robe could be vaguely seen; who else could it be but Xie Yan?
It seems what I just heard was true; he was indeed with a girl.
Hand warmers have become this extreme?
Xie Yan is really something! He doesn't even spare young ladies from aristocratic families.
Shen Nanzi's eyes reddened. She had been married to him for eight years, but had never received a shred of tenderness from him.
She wanted to see just how far he would go in his debauchery at the Prince's residence!
Just before lifting the bamboo curtain, she adjusted her expression, using a smile to mask her bitterness, and asked in a light voice, "Xie Yan, who are you chatting with?"
The bamboo curtain was opened, revealing a warm and inviting atmosphere inside the pavilion. A charcoal stove was used to brew tea, with steam rising and the aroma of tea filling the air.
Xie Yan sat opposite him, his fingers holding a light blue porcelain cup with distinct knuckles.
His eyes dimmed instantly when they met her face, his thick eyebrows raised, revealing his displeasure.
Clearly, they were having a pleasant conversation or were in a good mood just a moment ago.
To his right sat his good friend Xue Yubai, dressed in a deep blue brocade robe, his smile still lingering.
Upon seeing Shen Nanzi lift the curtain, Xie Yan quickly suppressed his smile and was about to rise and pay his respects when Xie Yan pressed down on his sleeve.
Instead, she greeted him gently: "Princess Consort Jing".
Shen Nanzi had a smile on her face, and when she saw that there was no one else in the pavilion, her previous unease dissipated.
We've saved face!
Her mood improved considerably, and she put down the curtain in her hand, walking into the pavilion with a smile.
After nodding to Xue Yubai, she looked at Xie Yan with a hint of reproach, "So you were hiding here. I've been looking for you for ages."
She always tried to create the illusion of a harmonious marital relationship in front of outsiders, perhaps because it was the kind of relationship she longed for when she first married him.
With a smile, he walked to the stone table and sat down.
She wanted to grab a porcelain cup to drink tea, but her eyes fell on a porcelain cup to Xie Yan's left.
There was still half a cup of tea inside, steaming gently.
There was a third person in this pavilion, who just left!
Xie Yan's porcelain cup is light blue, Xue Yubai's cup is white, while this cup is light pink.
Shen Nanzi's eyes flickered slightly; the person drinking tea was a woman.
Give a girl a hand warmer in front of Xue Yubai?
Shen Nanzi's thoughts were churning; Xie Yan might really be capable of doing it.
However, the girls who can come to this Prince's mansion are all of high status.
There are too many guests today; she can't remember who they are.
Shen Nanzi blinked and realized there was no fourth cup in the tea tray, so she awkwardly withdrew her hand.
Pretending not to care, and not noticing Xie Yan's expression that he didn't want to talk to her, she sat down on her own.
As soon as she sat down, she saw another exit to Xie Yan's left.
That girl must have gone down from that side; she needs to go and see who it is.
Having made up her mind, she stood up and said with a smile, "It seems you have official business to discuss, so I won't disturb you any longer."
As she spoke, she got up and walked to the opposite side.
Unexpectedly, Xie Yan got up and blocked her way.
Shen Nanzi looked up, eager to know which family's daughter she was.
"What are you doing? I want to look this way. The scenery at the Prince's Mansion is quite nice."
Xie Yan remained silent, his body motionless.
"Get out of the way!"
She deftly dodged Xie Yan, who stood like a high wall in front of her, but he grabbed her waist and pulled her behind him.
This was out of guilt; he had discovered her intentions and wanted to stop her.
Shen Nanzi was furious. She grabbed his neck, thrust her body upwards, and bit his lips hard with her red lips.
The sensation between the lips and teeth is soft and moist, with a faint aroma of tea.
It still hurts a bit!
Xie Yan froze, his expression stiffened, and he pushed her away forcefully with both hands.
"Shen! Nan! Zi!" he growled.
In broad daylight, with Xue Yubai present, she's truly... incredibly audacious! Shameless!
The person he was talking about moved like a cat, her skirt brushing past his fingertips, nimbly passing through the pavilion. The bamboo curtain swayed, and the person had already slipped away.
Xie Yan watched her walk away, and was so angry that he wanted to catch her and beat her up.
"Princess Jing is indeed quite special," Xue Yubai said, suppressing a laugh as he teased his good brother.
"She is reckless and unruly, she doesn't follow any rules at all, and she does things entirely based on her mood."
Xie Yan flicked his sleeve, and through the bamboo curtain, the figure had already disappeared.
"You know her so well, it seems she has left an impression on you?" Xue Yubai took a sip of tea and looked at his close friend.
Xie Yan scoffed, sat back down on the stone bench, a sneer on his face.
"Ruthless, intolerant of others, and incredibly tough—the kind of person who wouldn't shed a tear even when facing a coffin!"
"In short, what an annoying person!"
"After all, she's a woman, and she has to live her whole life! At least I like you, so treat her well."
"She doesn't deserve my kindness! You know that, don't you!"
"Sigh!" Xue Yubai sighed.
Xie Yan sipped his tea, glancing to his left.
Descending the steps, flanked by bamboo groves, Shen Nanzi chased after them, lifting her large skirt.
Along the way, there were many intersections, and the pedestrians were all guests, in groups of three or five.
"Princess Jing, are you all alone? Why didn't you bring a few maids to serve you? Oh, your maids are all old women, you're afraid of being laughed at if you bring them out!"
Shen Nanzi looked at the person she met around the corner and thought, "What bad luck! Why did I have to run into her again?"
"Get out of my way!" He warned, tilting his head slightly, not wanting to get entangled with her.
"Should we find a girl?"
Lin Ruyi dismissed the maidservants beside her and covered her face with a round fan in her hand.
He revealed a pair of malicious eyes, blocking her way and not wanting her to pass.
"I saw it. You went to the hexagonal pavilion in a huff just now. You heard our conversation, didn't you!"
"So, we took the shortcut just to catch a glimpse of that girl and to see who would want to be your best friend."
Shen Nanzi grinned, "Lin Ruyi, as long as we're not sisters, everything is fine."
