Small Town Rebirth: Starting From Birth

On the internet, people often commemorate their childhoods. Chen Bing, a young man from a small town who was one of them, found himself back 24 years ago, in the small town of his birth, after his death.

In the 21st century: in 2000, Jay Chou released his first album, and by 2002, he began to achieve great success. After the internet bubble burst in 2001, home computers started to enter small and medium-sized cities. Also in 2001, China joined the WTO and entered a period of rapid development. In 2003, SARS broke out, and in the same year, Shenzhou 5 was successfully launched.

In 2005, LCD TVs entered ordinary households. In 2006, "Shamate" culture became popular. In 2007, the first internet-connected smartphone appeared. In 2008, the Olympic Games were successfully held. In 2009, Bilibili emerged, signaling a new stage of development for Chinese ACG culture.

Urbanization, the internet, economic development, and the popularity of cartoons and anime—everything roared in China at the beginning of the new century. Yet, in townships and counties, life remained as it was before. Without the internet, without computers, childhood was still joyful, making pleasant sounds in every sense.

The internet era wouldn't officially appear in their lives until some years later. In this transition of eras, Chen Bing picks up his past and experiences the joy of growing up once again.
