Chapter 297 Buying a Courtyard House

My uncle warmly led them slowly into the quaint courtyard, where the bluestone path under their feet told stories of bygone years.

Along the way, my uncle talked non-stop, saying, "This courtyard has been passed down from my ancestors to the present day! Although it has weathered many storms and is quite old, its structure is incredibly sturdy and can definitely withstand the test of time."

"If you're really interested, we can discuss the price."

Dai Xingyun listened intently, his eyes sharp as he carefully examined the courtyard.

He first observed the overall layout of the house, noting the pavilions and towers arranged in a harmonious and orderly manner. He then went around to the back of the house to examine the structure of the building and couldn't help but admire it in his heart: This courtyard is truly a hidden paradise, exuding a simple and elegant charm everywhere.

At this moment, Dai Xingyun turned his head and said softly to Xiahou Jie beside him, "This courtyard is indeed very nice. Both the environment and the layout perfectly match Xiaoxiao's preferences and requirements."

Xiahou Jie smiled and nodded in agreement. Then, he turned to his uncle and said frankly, "Uncle, to be honest, we've taken a liking to this house! Please give us a fair price."

My uncle thought for a moment, then held up a few fingers and called out a number.

After exchanging a glance, Dai Xingyun and Xiahou Jie began to discuss in hushed tones.

After a brief discussion, they agreed that the price was fair and reasonable, so they made the decision to buy the courtyard without hesitation.

Since my uncle had lived in Kyoto for many years and had extensive connections, he was very familiar with all the procedures. Taking advantage of the early hour, the group rushed to the relevant departments to complete the transfer of ownership.

Before long, all the procedures were completed smoothly.

When Dangdai Xingyun received the brand-new property certificate, a genuine smile involuntarily spread across his face.

What's most striking is that the property certificate clearly lists Shen Xiaoxiao's name.

“I will clear out everything in three days, and then you can come and take possession of the house,” my uncle said decisively.

"Okay, thank you, Uncle. Do you know if there are any houses for sale nearby?" After thanking him, Dai Xingyun asked again, as if he had just remembered something.

My uncle was quite surprised to hear this. "Are you still going to buy a house?"

“That’s good. Ideally, it would be nearby. If there are any like your courtyard house, I’d like to buy two more.” Dai Xingyun nodded affirmatively.

My uncle thought for a moment and said, "If you really want to buy it, there's a shop next door that wants to sell it."

"He was a pitiful man. His son suffered a lot when he was sent to the countryside. When he came back, he was completely unrecognizable."

He himself had also ruined his health in the city. Even after the house was returned to him, they didn't dare live there. They were thinking of selling it as soon as possible, leaving this place, finding a quiet place, and living a good life!

"When are they free to go and take a look at the house?" Dai Xingyun was very happy, not expecting to receive news so quickly.

"Why don't you come with me now? It's very close by," Uncle said, glancing at the early hour.

Dai Xingyun had no objection, "Then let's go now!"

When the group arrived, the gate to the courtyard house was open.

My uncle stood outside and called out loudly, "Brother Xia, are you there?"

"Yes, who is it? Come in!" A coughing sound came from inside.

"Brother Xia, it's me! I remember you said you wanted to sell this courtyard. This is my nephew's friend, and they're looking to buy it." The uncle got straight to the point as soon as he saw the man.

“My house has two courtyards, and as you know, it’s quite large. I won’t sell it for less than 10,000 yuan.” Xia Zheng was disappointed when he saw the age of Dai Xingyun and his companion.

"Uncle Xia, can you take us to see the house?" Dai Xingyun asked.

“Sure, feel free to look around,” Xia Zheng gestured for the group to follow him, leading them through room after room to see the furnishings.

Although the house is partially damaged, it is still relatively well-preserved and can be moved into after a little repair.

Dai Xingyun nodded. "Uncle Xia! I've got my eye on the house. How much do you want?"

"Ten thousand yuan," Xia Zheng said, stating his lowest price.

“Okay, when would you like to transfer the ownership?” Dai Xingyun thought for a moment and then nodded in agreement.

"It's too late today. By the time we get to the property registration office, they'll already be closed. How about tomorrow?" Xia Zheng asked.

"Okay, here's two hundred yuan in cash. Once the transfer is completed tomorrow, the rest of the money will be transferred to you. Oh, I forgot to ask, is there any dispute over this house?" Dai Xingyun asked after giving the deposit.

"Don't worry, there are no disputes about this house. When the government returned it to me, it was already emptied out." Xia Zheng quickly assured him and wrote down a receipt.

My uncle led a few people back to the neighboring courtyard.

"Li Qiang, Uncle, thank you so much for your help today. I'll treat you to a meal," Dai Xingyun said, expressing his gratitude for their assistance.

"No need, no need. We should be the ones treating you to dinner. You don't know that my son and daughter-in-law are going to take me to Shanghai to settle down. I just want to find someone who will take good care of the house." Uncle sighed.

“If it weren’t for their jobs being all over there, I really wouldn’t be willing to sell the house. As for the furniture that we can’t take with us, do you want it? If you do, keep it; if not, just throw it away.” My uncle looked at the house, his heart filled with sadness.

Dai Xingyun agreed and insisted on treating the two to dinner. His uncle, however, absolutely refused to go, wanting to stay at his house longer.

Dai Xingyun stopped trying to persuade him. "Uncle, we'll be leaving now. We'll need your help when we come back tomorrow. If you have any news about houses for sale in the area these next few days, please tell Li Qiang and have him let me know!"

When Uncle heard Dai Xingyun's words, a look of surprise appeared on his face, his brows furrowed slightly, and his tone was somewhat doubtful: "Are you still going to buy a house? These courtyard houses are not cheap. You've already bought two, why do you want to buy another one?"

Dai Xingyun explained calmly and steadily, “Uncle, this time when we return to Beijing, in addition to finding accommodation for ourselves, we also need to look for suitable houses for our relatives.”

"After all, the environment near Kyoto University is good and life is convenient. If we can buy a few more units, we can live close by and take care of each other."

Uncle nodded, a hint of approval flashing in his eyes: "You young people are quite thoughtful."

"However, there are indeed not many courtyard houses near Peking University, especially well-preserved old courtyard houses like these. You are already quite lucky to have been able to buy two."

Xiahou Jie chimed in with a smile, "Uncle, you have a wide network of connections and are well-informed. If you know of any other families in the neighborhood who want to sell their houses, please keep an eye out for us."

"The price is negotiable. As long as the house is suitable, we will definitely not let you work for nothing."
