Chapter 279 The Thieves
Her gaze remained fixed on the notice, not even daring to blink, as if a gentle breeze could shatter it into pieces if she relaxed even slightly.
After returning home, Ma Aning began to look around the house, pondering where the safest and most appropriate place to hide the admission notice was.
She kept opening drawers to look inside and touching the inside of the wardrobe, her brows furrowed and her face full of anxiety.
Shen Xiaoxiao, who had been watching coldly from the sidelines, finally couldn't stand it anymore and said, "Mom, please stop working so hard! Let me keep the notice!"
"Don't worry, I guarantee there won't be any problems. If I let you keep worrying like this, you probably won't be able to sleep at night because of it!"
Upon hearing her daughter's words, Ma Aning was slightly taken aback, and then the image of the magical space her daughter possessed came to mind.
"Yes! It is indeed an excellent place to store important items. Not only can no one else access it, but there is also no need to worry about it being accidentally lost or damaged."
Thinking of this, Ma Aning felt as if she were holding a bag of explosives that could explode at any moment, and without hesitation, she quickly stuffed the notice into Shen Xiaoxiao's arms.
Then he let out a long sigh of relief, feeling much more relaxed.
Suddenly, she slapped her forehead, and her memories instantly became clear. She finally remembered what she had just been doing.
She said hurriedly, "Oh dear! We can't delay any longer, we still have to get to work!"
I completely forgot about it! I even forgot to ask the team leader for leave! You'd better put that notice away and then hurry to the health center! Before she finished speaking, she rushed out the door.
Shen Zishan followed closely behind, without uttering a sound.
He watched helplessly as Ma Aning strode straight towards the fields, feeling utterly resigned but forced to follow.
Shen Xiaoxiao didn't even have time to call out to the two of them. She could only casually toss the notice into her spatial storage, then quickly lock the door and hurried towards the health center.
However, Shen Xiaoxiao did not notice that shortly after she turned to leave, a furtive figure quietly appeared in front of the Shen family's gate.
The man first looked around furtively to make sure no one was around, then nimbly climbed over the courtyard wall, crept closer to the door, and quietly tried to open it.
Once inside, the man began rummaging around without restraint, leaving the poor, small room in a complete mess, with various items scattered everywhere in a chaotic disarray.
"How could it not be there? How could it be so well hidden? Where did it go?" He muttered to himself as he anxiously searched around.
They searched Shen Zishan and his wife's room again, but still found nothing.
Helpless, he looked up at the darkening sky outside the window and became increasingly anxious.
He gritted his teeth, as if making a firm decision, and suddenly turned around and ran quickly towards the door.
He nimbly vaulted over the tall courtyard gate and quickly disappeared into the twilight.
When he left, he was carrying a bulging burlap sack on his back.
Just then, Shen Xiaoxiao's figure appeared at the door.
She had planned to come home early to prepare dinner, but as soon as she opened the door, she immediately noticed something unusual—the door to her room, which was usually tightly closed, was wide open, as was the door to her parents' room.
Shen Xiaoxiao's heart skipped a beat, and a bad premonition welled up in her heart.
Without a second thought, she hurried into her room. The sight before her made her eyes widen in disbelief:
The pillows and blankets on the bed were scattered haphazardly on the floor; the wardrobe was wide open, and the clothes inside were also thrown everywhere, some even cut into pieces.
They then went to the room of Shen Zishan and his wife and saw that their room was exactly the same, with everything destroyed.
I ran to the kitchen and found that all the rice, flour, and cooking oil were gone.
Shen Xiaoxiao could only be thankful that all her money and tickets were kept in her own space, otherwise they would have all benefited others.
Shen Xiaoxiao didn't touch anything. She turned around, walked to the door, locked the gate again, and quickly ran to the warehouse.
When she arrived at the brigade headquarters warehouse, she saw the village chief and the brigade leader sitting at the table, carefully checking the work points recorded by the villagers who had gathered around, and having them sign their names so that they wouldn't have to wait until the grain was distributed to find out that the work points were incorrect.
At this moment, most of the villagers gathered here, either talking in hushed tones or looking around curiously.
Without the slightest hesitation, Shen Xiaoxiao walked straight through the crowd and quickly stood in front of the captain.
With anger on her face, she raised her voice slightly and said, "Grandpa Captain, my house has been burgled. Could you please take a few people with you and come back to check the situation? Also, could you arrange for two people to go to the police station to report the crime?"
Upon hearing this, the brigade leader, who had been focused on bookkeeping, suddenly paused. He looked up at the most promising girl in the brigade.
His brows furrowed tightly, and he asked incredulously, "Xiaoxiao, are you telling the truth? Our village has always been peaceful, how could it suddenly be robbed?"
Shen Xiaoxiao nodded vigorously and replied excitedly, "Grandpa Captain, it's absolutely true! If you don't believe me, you can come home with me and you'll see."
“That despicable thief went too far! He left us no way to survive! He took all the food that our family had painstakingly saved up.”
“They even took the oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar from the kitchen, and my clothes were all cut into pieces.”
"Is what you're saying true? We'll go check it out now. If it's true, we must call the police and arrest the person."
Upon hearing Shen Xiaoxiao's words, the captain's face immediately turned angry.
He strode forward angrily, only to be followed by a large group of villagers, some carrying farm tools and others empty-handed, all following curiously.
Those who were recording work points for the day stopped what they were doing, put down their pens, and followed closely behind the brigade leader.
Everyone moved quickly and arrived at Shen Xiaoxiao's house in no time.
Shen Xiaoxiao took out her key and opened the door. "Grandpa Brigade Leader, Grandpa Village Chief, please come in with me. The other uncles and elders don't need to come in."
