"..." Qiao Qiao, hugging me makes you feel so uncomfortable, I think you can put me down.

However, seeing Tan Yan working so hard, Qiao Qiao was not disappointed.

"Oh my, where did this little baby come from? She's quite pretty."

Because the male boss took a glass bottle and went to the back to buy soy sauce, a middle-aged woman came out from the door and exclaimed in surprise when she saw Qiao Qiao being carried by Tan Yan.

As he spoke, he opened a plastic box in front of him, took out a few pieces of lard candy, and kept stuffing them into Qiao Qiao's hand.

While stuffing the candy into her mouth, she said, "Here, Auntie is giving you some candy."

The lard candy cost two cents each, and you could buy five for ten cents. Qiao Qiao didn't really like this kind of candy; she always found it a bit too sweet.

But Qiao Qiao didn't refuse the female boss's kindness. Instead, she stretched out her hands and accepted it with a smile, saying sweetly, "Thank you, Auntie. You're so kind. I wish you a prosperous year ahead."

Her voice was soft and sweet.

The words they spoke were always pleasing and auspicious.

The middle-aged woman was so pleased that she kept groaning and smiling broadly.

He then took out a few more osmanthus oil candies, and even leaned over and climbed over the windowsill to stuff them into her pockets, as if he wanted to fill all her pockets.

Tan Heming and the two children following not far away were all stunned.

This small shop is the only one in the village. The male owner, surnamed Chen, is a kind and honest man who always has a smile on his face.

If villagers take advantage of him even a little when buying things, he doesn't mind and always says that it's a blessing to suffer a loss.

His wife, on the other hand, was the complete opposite of him; she was quite formidable.

No one can get the better of her.

Often, villagers who like to take advantage of others will check who is minding the shop before buying anything.

Tan Heming and the other two village children had never seen anyone get along well with the female boss.

Now, seeing that Qiao Qiao only called out once and said something nice, and yet received so many candies, their eyes widened in disbelief.

The two children in the village were still somewhat eager to try.

However, they quickly remembered how formidable their female boss had been in the past, and considering they were already eight or nine years old, their sense of shame prevented them from doing such a thing.

I had to suppress this impulse.

Although Tan Heming lost his father at a young age, he has been helped by Grandpa Tan and the eldest branch of the Tan family over the years. While he doesn't get whatever he wants, Jiang Xinyue does her best to satisfy him and has never let him lack food or clothing. He even gets a few cents of pocket money every week.

So he was surprised but not envious that Qiao Qiao could get snacks just because of her looks.

He even reached into his pocket, pulled out a dime, and pointed to a plastic bucket, enthusiastically introducing it to Qiao Qiao.

"Little Qiaoqiao, this is delicious, it's sweet and sour, and there are little toys inside. I have money, I'll buy it for you."

Qiao Qiao followed his finger and saw that the snack packaging in the plastic bucket had "sour plum powder" written on it.

I've tried this buckwheat porridge before; it contains some sweet and sour powder.

As for the toys Tan Heming mentioned, they are actually the other end of the plastic spoon that comes with the toy. There are small animals made of plastic, such as monkeys, chicks, and ponies.

She also liked the taste of the plum powder, but she didn't want Tan Heming to buy it for her.

She pulled out the ten-yuan note she'd gotten from Shen Qingyan, slammed it on the cutting board, pouted, and said with extreme arrogance, "I don't need you to buy it. My dad is rich, he has tons of money!"

After saying this, he didn't wait for Tan Heming's reaction.

She then smiled and looked at Tan Yan, who was still holding her small waist and trying to lift her up, and Tan Qian, who had already received the bottle of soy sauce that the male boss had filled on the other side.

She said very generously, "Sister Xiaoqian, Brother Xiaoyan, please choose whatever you want to eat. It's on me."

Shen Qingyan had already walked over and happened to hear the words "my dad is rich," and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but turn up in a smile.

He easily picked the little girl up from Tan Yan's arms, supporting her knees with one hand and placing the other under her bottom so she could see everything in the convenience store.

He nodded in agreement, "Yes, Uncle has money, you can take it, Uncle's treating."

They even attracted two little boys who were hiding outside and too scared to come over, and invited them to come and choose as well.

The two little boys were about the same age as Tan Heming. Although they were a little afraid of Shen Qingyan, they couldn't resist the temptation and soon ran over happily.

And as it turns out...

Even if all the children filled their pockets and bought a lot of fireworks to play with, it wouldn't cost more than a few dollars.

All of them together didn't cost a single dollar.

But all of it adds up to a little over six yuan.

That's about half a month's worth of revenue for this little shop.

The female boss was even more delighted and gave Qiao Qiao several other kinds of snacks.

One of the snacks even had a rather "unique" name.

It was packaged in a red plastic bottle, about the size of two adult index fingers, and had no name on it except for the production date and ingredients.

Qiao Qiao opened the lid and poured the contents into her palm; they were some black, round granules the size of mung beans.

She put it in her mouth, smacked her lips, and found the taste a bit strange—salty and slightly cool.

She asked the others curiously what it was called.

She's never eaten it before.

Then one of the two village children who came with them excitedly told her—

"I know, I know, this is called rat droppings!"
