After what happened last night, she discussed it with Qiao Changhong, thinking that if Chen Yulian really couldn't tolerate Qiao Qiao, then they would have to come and support her.

Chen Yulian doesn't want such a pretty, cute, and sensible little girl; she wants her.

But as soon as she said that, Qiao Changhong criticized her, saying that if she dared to say that, Qiao Changdong would kill her without anyone else's help.

She then sheepishly dismissed the idea.

"This trip to the provincial capital was for her to have a full-body checkup," Grandma Qiao explained.

"I see." Fang Zhengnan was a little disappointed, then turned to ask about Chen Yulian.

It's not appropriate to make Chen Yulian's situation public right now, and Grandma Qiao didn't say much, only that Chen Yulian gave birth to a daughter, and then she didn't say anything else.

"It's a daughter." Fang Zhengnan exclaimed in surprise.

She had thought it was a boy because Chen Yulian was so high-profile, but it turned out to be a girl.

She wanted to ask for more details, but Grandma Qiao picked Qiao Qiao up from her arms and said, "Go and cook. Dongzi and Guaibao will have to go to the provincial capital after they eat. It's not safe to walk at night if they're late."

Upon hearing this, Fang Zhengnan nodded, stopped gossiping, and quickly went to cook.

She had originally planned to have a simple meal with Qiao Changhong and hadn't prepared anything fancy.

But when he saw Qiao Qiao return, he immediately went to the backyard to pick up two more eggs and made her a bowl of egg drop soup.

They also cut off the cured pork and fish hanging from the roof beams, and stir-fried two more meat dishes, managing to make a total of four dishes and a soup.

Of the four branches of the Qiao family, the third branch had the worst living conditions.

Qiao Changhong didn't have any skills, unlike Qiao Changqing who had served in the military and was able to stay on as a soldier.

Unlike Qiao Lao Er, he didn't have much strength and could teach some martial arts at the martial arts school.

Unlike Qiao Changdong, who can drive long-distance trucks and earn the equivalent of one or two years' income for others by making two or three trips a year.

He was just an ordinary farmer who worked the land year-round and had two sons to support, so after deducting daily expenses, the third branch of the Qiao family didn't have much money left.

Qiao Qiao is going to the provincial capital for medical treatment and check-ups. Logically, her uncle and aunt should give her a red envelope as a token of their appreciation.

But the autumn harvest wasn't over yet, and the grain in the fields hadn't been sold for money.

Fang Zhengnan simply couldn't produce even a single ten-yuan note.

Before Qiao Qiao left, all she could do was pack ten hard-boiled eggs for her, as a small token of her affection as her aunt.

"These are worthless, don't mind them, eat them on the way." She wrapped the boiled eggs in a cloth bag and handed them to Qiao Changdong, but her eyes were full of heartache as she looked at Qiao Qiao in his arms.

Qiao Qiao didn't say anything. Looking at her third aunt, whose eyes were full of love for her, she leaned over, wrapped her arms around the aunt's neck, and gave her a big kiss.

Qiao Changdong rode his family's old bicycle back to the hospital with Qiao Qiao.

It was already past 1 p.m. when we arrived at the hospital.

The doctor on shift came to check on the patients.

She was a female doctor in her thirties or forties.

Qiao Changdong knew that Qiao Qiao's injury was healing somewhat strangely. He had already bandaged it up and gone back, without letting anyone lift it to look, only letting the female doctor look at her stomach.

Qiao Qiao's lower abdomen was still bruised, but it no longer hurt.

Qiao Qiao didn't think much of it. When the female doctor asked her if she was still in pain, she shook her head and said she wasn't in pain anymore.

The female doctor knew the Qiao family. She had met Qiao Qiao at Qiao Xiaoyun's house before and liked this excessively beautiful girl.

Seeing this, he smiled and put away his stethoscope, and casually patted the back of Qiao Qiao's head.

He said to Qiao Changdong, "Qiaoqiao's stomach looks fine now, but just like Dr. Luo said, the human body's organs are very complex."

"Some symptoms may not be visible to the naked eye, and there may be no immediate reaction, but there's always a chance..."

"So we still suggest that if you can afford it, go to a hospital in the provincial capital. The medical conditions there are better. You can get an X-ray and a full-body check-up to put your mind at ease."

As the female doctor spoke, the mother and son, who had been silent on the other side of the ward, looked over at the same time.

Wait until the female doctor leaves.

The woman sitting beside the young boy's hospital bed seemed to hesitate for a moment before awkwardly walking over.

Hesitantly, he asked Qiao Changdong, "Young man, what's wrong with your daughter? Are you also going to the provincial hospital?"

Qiao Changdong remained calm and glanced at the young boy. Seeing that the boy was also looking at him, he smiled.

He turned to the woman who had walked up to him and replied, "Yes, I'll take my daughter over later. She has a stomach injury, and the medical facilities here aren't good enough. We don't have the machines to check it."

"This, this... I see." The woman unconsciously rubbed her hands together.

Looking at the little girl he was holding in his arms, she couldn't help but sincerely praise, "Your baby is so beautiful. I've never seen such a beautiful little girl before. You are so lucky."

Qiao Changdong smiled again and leaned down to kiss his precious daughter in his arms.

Then, as if chatting casually, he said, "Your son is handsome too, but to me, he doesn't look much like you or your older brother. Indeed, the student surpasses the master."

Upon hearing this, the woman's face stiffened, and her eyes darted away.

She swallowed hard, gave a dry laugh, and then returned to her seat, pretending to be busy tidying up the corner of her blanket.

Qiao Changdong caught the fleeting guilt in her eyes, his gaze darkened, but he didn't show it on his face. He changed the subject.

"I heard the doctor say that your son's leg injury can't be delayed, and the conditions here aren't good enough for treatment. He needs to go to a hospital in the provincial capital, right?"
