"You don't care about her safety, all you care about is your dilapidated study?! Do you even care about this family anymore?!"

Lu Zhenbang slammed his hand on the coffee table and stood up abruptly, his fingers trembling with anger.

"You're such a worrywart! You're never home, always out fooling around, never doing anything productive!"

"We went through so much trouble to find you a wife hoping you would settle down and live a good life! But instead, you came back and mistreated Zixi without even asking what happened! Do you have any conscience at all?!"

Qin Xueyi's eyes also reddened, and she pointed at Lu Ran, cursing him with a mixture of anger and sadness.

"I'm telling you, Lu Ran, today! You take Zi Xi to the Civil Affairs Bureau right now and get us the marriage certificate!"

"If you dare to make excuses again, or make her suffer any more grievances, you can get out of the Lu family! I'll pretend your mother and I never had a son like you!"

In a fit of rage, Lu Zhenbang issued an ultimatum, his voice firm and unwavering.

Lu Ran was stunned by his father's furious rebuke.

Especially when his usually silent father said he didn't recognize his son, the serious tone of his voice made him instantly lose all color in his face.

No, he hasn't been back for several days, has he?

He looked at his furious parents, then glanced at Shen Zixi beside him, who remained meek and seemingly detached from the situation. His chest heaved violently, but he couldn't utter a single word.

Zi Xi sat there quietly the whole time, a cold smile playing on her lips.

Who told this frizzy little chick to yell at her as soon as it came back?

Lu Ran stiffened his neck, his gaze sweeping unwillingly over the culprit who remained meek and submissive.

Just then, he caught a fleeting glimpse of an expression out of the corner of his eye.

Just as his mother, Qin Xueyi, was angrily blaming him...

Shen Zixi, who was standing quietly to the side, subtly and very quickly curved her lips upwards!

Was she gloating?

"Mom and Dad! Look at her! She smiled! She was just smiling!"

"She's just faking it! Aunt Liu's situation might all have been a scheme she orchestrated! You've all been fooled by her!"

Lu Ran instantly bristled, pointed at Zi Xi, and cried out in grievance.

However, instead of his parents' sudden realization, he was met with a sharp slap in the living room.

Qin Xueyi was trembling with anger. Looking at her son's stubbornness, she finally ran out of patience.

That slap was delivered with almost all of its power.

"Lu Ran! You've disappointed me so much!"

"Even now you're still throwing mud at others! I'll ask you one last time, do you accept Xiaoxi as your wife? Are you going to get the marriage certificate or not?!"

Qin Xueyi's voice was choked with sobs and filled with determination.

"I don't acknowledge it, and I won't get the marriage certificate! This family can have her or me, so I'm leaving, okay?"

Lu Ran covered his face, looking at his mother in disbelief, then at his father, whose face was ashen and who was obviously furious. A huge sense of grievance overwhelmed him.

After saying that, he turned around abruptly and rushed out the door without looking back.

Lu Zhenbang and Qin Xueyi seemed heartbroken by their son's actions. After dinner, they went back to their room and didn't mention going to see Lu Ran again.

After finishing her meal, Zi Xi returned to her room, did some yoga, and sang for a while, completely unaffected by the events of the day.

In the middle of the night, a dark figure silently crept back into the small villa and slipped into the bedroom on the second floor.

Lu Ran gently pushed open the door and, using the faint moonlight filtering in from the window, looked at the raised figure on the bed.

He was seething with anger and resentment, finding fault with everything he saw.

"What kind of person is this? Always stirring up trouble in front of Mom and Dad, acting like a little white rabbit... making me get beaten and scolded..."

"How many times have I been beaten in my life..."

Lu Ran tiptoed to the bedside, looked down at Shen Zixi's serene profile, and couldn't help but lower his voice, muttering angrily.
