Jiang Yanli placed the photo frame on the table and gently put the flight case on the ground.
A loud, clear meow came from inside the box.
Zi Xi froze completely; she knew that voice all too well!
"You little rascal, we're at your house!"
Jiang Yanli crouched down and opened the chest door, nearly suffering a fatal attack.
A somewhat thin orange cat waddled out, a small patch of fur missing from its left ear, its brown eyes misty.
It was so thin that it looked completely different from the chubby cat in the photo, but it still had the rattan pendant that Zi Xi had made by hand hanging around its neck.
"Snowball!!!"
Zi Xi's voice trembled so badly it didn't sound like her own.
Snowball looked up, suddenly quickened its pace and ran towards her, but stopped halfway and looked at her arrogantly.
Zi Xi staggered and almost fell. She stretched out her trembling hands, and Xueqiu buried her head in her arms, making a hoarse quacking sound like a duck.
Zi Xi's fingertips touched the cat's protruding ribs and the scabbed wounds on its hind legs, and her throat felt like it was blocked by something.
She was far too polite to the Chu family yesterday!
Jiang Yanli leaned against the door, her voice so soft as if afraid of disturbing the moment: "The people at the rescue station said that our Snowball was abandoned near the garbage dump. When it was found, it hadn't eaten for a long time, had abrasions on its hind legs, and an ear infection. After being cleaned up at the rescue station, it ate very little and was very depressed."
“He was starved to such an extreme, yet he frequently tried to run away. He was caught and brought back several times, and his body was covered in injuries from struggling.”
Zi Xi buried her face in the fur that smelled of Snowball bath products, the familiar warm scent mixed with the smell of medicine filling her nostrils.
Her shoulders began to tremble uncontrollably, and hot tears instantly soaked Snowball's back.
"Madam Chu said she found a good family, but in reality, she must have had them thrown away."
"Luckily, we on Xueqiu are blessed with good fortune and have survived."
Jiang Yanli walked over and squatted down in front of her.
Damn, she looks so beautiful even when she cries!
Zi Xi looked up, her vision blurred by tears.
She tried to speak, but could only manage choked sobs.
When she found the snowball, she truly poured her heart into it. Rather than saying she found the snowball and raised it, it's more accurate to say that the snowball accompanied her as she grew up.
Jiang Yanli reached out and gently wiped away her tears, her fingertips warm and dry: "Don't cry, our son wouldn't want you to be so sad either."
Snowball nuzzled against Zixi's wrist affectionately in her arms, making a purring sound like a tractor.
This familiar action made her cry even harder, large tears falling onto the cat.
She hugged the snowball tightly, as if trying to make up for the long separation.
Jiang Yanli looked at her quietly, her eyes showing a tenderness she had never shown before.
He reached out and ruffled Snowball's head, then quickly pulled his hand back to avoid being hit by Snowball. Then, as if by magic, he pulled a piece of freeze-dried food from his pocket: "I took it to the hospital for its vaccinations, and the vet said it can eat small amounts now."
Upon smelling the aroma of freeze-dried food, Snowball immediately pricked up its ears and sniffed eagerly.
Jiang Yanli reached out her hand, and Xueqiu hesitated for a moment, then sniffed it before wolfing it down.
"Don't worry, I've consulted a veterinarian, and he's developed a detailed rehabilitation plan for our Snowball!"
"In less than a month, I guarantee our Snowball will get as big as an inflating balloon!"
"This is a special nutritional paste, anti-inflammatory medicine, cat litter, and cat food. Someone will bring over a litter box, scratching post, and cat tree later."
Jiang Yanli stood up and walked to the door, bringing in a particularly large snakeskin bag.
The bag is so full it looks like it's going to empty the entire pet hospital.
Zi Xi stared blankly as he took things out one by one: Snowball's favorite little mouse toy, cat bowl, and even various kinds of small blankets.
"How much did you...how much did you spend on these?"
"What are you talking about money for? I'm Snowball's dad, um~ Snowball's mom."
