"Sister, it's probably just that I haven't been resting well these past couple of days. There's no need to go to the hospital. I'll let you know in advance if I'm not feeling well, so you don't need to worry too much about me."
As she spoke, she yawned again.
The weather has been very hot and humid at night these past two days, but she doesn't dare to sleep with the window open all the time. Xie Mingzhu gently patted her back and put a pillow on the sofa.
"Then sit down and rest for a while. You look very sleepy. I'll take out the dishes for dinner now, and you can go to sleep first."
When Xie Zhiyan left, he specifically instructed that Shu Ying had been sleeping late these past two days, so he should try not to disturb her with household matters.
Strangely enough, even though she had just woken up not long ago, Shu Ying felt sleepy again. Her head was glued to the pillow for only a short while before her eyelids became so heavy that she could hardly open them.
Actually, she doesn't usually take a nap, but she's used to sleeping for a while every day around noon. She's only started to take naps in the last two days, but no matter how long she sleeps, she always wakes up with aches and pains. So even when she's lying on the sofa, she feels very uncomfortable.
"Sister, I'm going upstairs to take a shower first. There are just too many dishes in the kitchen. If you can't manage by yourself, we can do it together when I wake up this afternoon. It will take a while for Mom and Dad to get back, so don't worry too much."
Shu Ying grabbed her coat from the sofa and decided to take a shower first.
Perhaps with the nourishment of the spiritual spring water, the physical discomfort will be relieved.
Xie Mingzhu did not stop her, but only reminded her to be careful when going upstairs.
Inside the room, Shu Ying originally wanted to take a bath, but her mind was foggy. After hesitating for a moment, she took out a silk robe and simply took a quick shower.
At midday, when the sun was at its strongest, Shu Ying pulled the curtains shut with one hand, instantly blocking out most of the sunlight in the room. Her eyes, which had been glared at intensely, finally felt a bit better.
She shrank into the blankets, a soreness spreading through her body as she lay down. Shu Ying gently rubbed her lower back with one hand and muttered to herself.
"It's really strange, because neither of us has been doing anything lately, so why do I feel so uncomfortable all over?"
Apart from organizing the refrigerator yesterday, she has basically not exercised at all. Xie Mingzhu not only has to do a lot of farm work every day, but also all kinds of housework. However, she always looks very energetic. Could it really be due to lack of exercise?
Shu Ying shook her head and lay down on the bed. She smelled of clean soap, and the quilt on the bed had just been aired by Xie Mingzhu that morning, still exuding a fluffy, sun-kissed scent.
Finally, her mental state relaxed, and before long, Shu Ying drifted off to sleep.
The sound of washing vegetables could be heard from downstairs from time to time, but Xie Mingzhu was worried about waking Shu Ying, so she deliberately slowed down her movements.
In the dimly lit room, Shu Ying frowned, feeling lost and confused, as if she had returned to the past.
"Mom, these are flowers my brother and I brought back for you from outside. The blue one is from my brother, and the yellow one is from me. Which one do you like the most?"
Yueyue and Yangyang had both grown quite a bit taller. The two little ones came in one after the other from outside the door and ran excitedly toward Shuying. Yueyue even had two leaves in her hair. The two little ones were having so much fun that Shuying didn't even notice that the scenery around her had changed.
"Mom will love anything that you and your brother give me. You and your brother are both my children, so I love them both equally."
With a gentle smile on her face, she embraced the two children.
Suddenly, Yangyang produced a candied hawthorn skewer from behind her like a magician, her eyes sparkling as she looked at her. "Mom, look, this is a candied hawthorn skewer that Grandpa and Grandma bought for me and my sister. We didn't eat it on the way back, so we specially saved one for you."
Shu Ying's expression froze for a moment, and before she could react, a string of candied hawthorns was already dripping in front of her.
"Grandpa and Grandma?"
She was puzzled.
Yueyue and Yangyang had grown up with her, so they called her parents grandpa and grandma. But her parents had been gone for a long time, and Shuying couldn't tell whether this was a dream or reality.
Just as she was about to correct the two children, she saw her parents walk in from outside, followed by three adorable little ones.
Two of the three little ones were girls, wearing matching pink dresses and with their hair tied up in topknots. The boy's hair was messy, as if he had just finished playing on a slide and it was standing up due to static electricity.
"Look at you, child. How many times have we told you? When your father and I leave the house, you must lock the door. Just now, when we came in, we saw the door wide open, and you were the only girl at home. What are your father and I supposed to do if you encounter any danger?"
Shu's mother gently patted the child in her arms, and the little ones ran to the pillar next to them, while Shu's father looked at her with a loving expression.
"Alright, she's a mother now, why does she always treat her daughter like a little kid? If you keep acting like this, she'll never grow up. Yingying, your mom and I bought you your favorite osmanthus cake. Try it, is it still the same as before?"
The two people from her memory suddenly reappeared in her dream. Shu Ying didn't dare to blink for a moment. She subconsciously wanted to reach out and hug them, but she was worried that it was just a dream.
She didn't know how long it had been since she had seen her parents. Their faces and smiles were exactly the same, but the bitterness in her heart was growing deeper and deeper.
"Dad, Mom, you're back."
Shu Ying stood frozen in place, afraid to make any move, lest the scene before her change drastically if she took a step forward.
Shu's mother walked over with a gentle smile and took a thin, crispy biscuit wrapped in oil paper from the basket and gave it to her.
"You silly child, your dad and I only went out for a short while, what's wrong with you? It's like you don't recognize me anymore?"
