Chapter 212

Xie Zhiyan's breath hitched for a moment, and he turned his head away with great difficulty. This was simply a test from heaven. Fortunately, he still had some sense of reason, otherwise he really didn't know what beastly things he would have done.
Especially when facing this face, he can easily abandon his humanity.
He bent down to be on the same video line as Shu Ying, his voice low and hoarse, "You must be tired today too. Get some rest tonight. Don't worry too much about your sister's situation. Mom and Dad will come back when they have time."
After he finished speaking, he placed another kiss on Shu Ying's forehead, very light, but full of endless affection.
"Good night," he said.
Xie Zhiyan felt somewhat ashamed of his own lack of self-control; otherwise, he could have slept in the same room as his wife.
Shu Ying pretended that nothing had happened and nodded with feigned composure, though her words were still somewhat incoherent.
"Well, you should go to sleep now. I'm sleepy too. I was just about to fall asleep. Goodnight."
Shu Ying nimbly lay down on the bed and covered herself with a thin blanket, leaving no skin exposed except for her head. She impatiently closed her eyes, as if falling asleep would make all the absurd things that had just happened disappear.
Xie Zhiyan's heart was gradually filled with someone. He bent down and remembered the pillow and blanket he had just thrown aside. He reached out and turned off the light on the wall.
"I've closed the door for you."
A soft "hmm" came from inside the blanket, and Xie Zhiyan reluctantly withdrew.
Hearing the door close and confirming that no one was in the room, Shu Ying breathed a sigh of relief. She carefully peeked her arm out from under the covers, slowly opened her eyes, and rubbed her messy hair.
"Shuying, what are you thinking? He wants to sleep in a separate room, you might as well just let him go. Why did you have to keep asking him so many questions? Now look what's happened."
She became the one being teased.
She pressed one hand to her heart, which was still pounding fiercely.
She wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but the presence of Xie Zhiyan's thing was terrifyingly strong. At first, she thought it was a belt, which was digging into her and hurting her. She was about to use her hand to push it away when she discovered that it seemed to move. Fortunately, her brain reacted faster than her hands, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to look Xie Zhiyan in the eye.
Thinking about these things, Shu Ying's mind became even more chaotic. She covered her entire head with the blanket, feeling extremely remorseful for her actions.
How could you cause such a huge disaster!
She glanced at the bedside table and thought to herself, "What do you mean?"
"I haven't prepared any family planning supplies yet. What if I get pregnant with twins again? Wouldn't the house be full of babies?"
The thought of many children following her around, calling out "Mommy" sent chills down Shu Ying's spine.
She shuddered and banished those non-existent children from her mind.
She didn't want her house to be turned upside down by the kids.
Perhaps because she had been tired for too long, Shu Ying did not dwell on her thoughts for long before falling asleep.
When she got up and went downstairs in the morning, Yangyang and Yueyue were already sitting at the dining table.
Song Zhaodi prepared a lavish breakfast. Xie Zhiyan came down at the same time as her. Seeing the two of them, Song Zhaodi's smile deepened. She brought out the porridge last and said gently, "I was telling you to sleep a little longer. I'll take the children to school after you eat. Now that you're up, wash your hands and eat first."
Shu Ying glanced at Xie Zhiyan, and then couldn't help but think of what happened last night. Noticing her cheeks burning, she quickly sat down and took the eggs to peel for the two children.
Xie Zhiyan's gaze fell on Song Zhaodi. After hesitating for a moment, he still said, "Sister Song, let's eat together."
Shu Ying had mentioned before that Song Zhaodi had always eaten with them, but now that he was back, she probably didn't want to disturb their family, so she would hide away every time they ate.
If Shuying hadn't insisted on stopping her last night, she would have waited until they finished eating.
Shu Ying looked up and pulled Song Zhaodi to sit down. "Sister Song, actually, Zhiyan is very easy to talk to. You'll see in time. Even when he's at home, you don't need to be too reserved. Just treat each other the same way we used to."
Compared to a nanny, Song Zhaodi was already family to Shu Ying. Even if Xie Zhiyan's guess was wrong, it wouldn't affect their relationship.
Song Zhaodi was a little embarrassed, but she couldn't persuade Shu Ying otherwise, so she had no choice but to sit down.
At the dinner table, the two little ones were clearly distracted. Shu Ying divided the eggs between them and patiently asked, "Yangyang and your sister don't seem very happy. Are your classmates at school not nice?"
Both children are easy to take care of. There was basically no transition period for starting school. Only on the first day, Yangyang was reluctant to leave his mother and shed a couple of tears. When Shuying picked them up again in the evening, the two little ones had already become friends with several other children.
Logically speaking, they shouldn't have any conflicts with their classmates.
Yangyang looked dejected, her words filled with worry. "Mommy, we haven't seen Brother Stone for three days now. Yesterday, my sister and I went to his house, and that auntie scolded us. We called him really loudly, but he didn't respond. Is Brother Stone sick?"
This is the children's first friend since arriving here, and the two little ones value it very much. They've been missing each other for several days straight.
Shu Ying frowned, thinking of the last time she saw Shi Tou at Liu Xiulan's house. The child looked back at her with reluctance. These past few days, the child had suddenly stopped moving. Could something have happened to him?
Unable to make a decision, she could only comfort the two of them first, "You two eat first, and when Mom takes you to school, I'll ask the teacher to find out what's going on, okay?"
Yueyue nodded obediently, but Shuying found it rather unappealing.
Xie Zhiyan placed a piece of cold dish on her plate. "Are you talking about Xiao Xueyi's son?"
Xie Zhiyan knew exactly which family's children in the compound grew up right under his nose.
Shu Ying lost her appetite and thought about how to subtly inquire about Shi Tou's situation.
"Yes, the last time I saw that child at Sister Xiulan's house, he was covered in bruises, from being whipped with a very thin rattan cane. He was mature beyond his years, and he lost his mother at a young age. He was very pitiful."
If it were an ordinary family's child, she wouldn't have gone to such lengths.
“That child is clever and cute. He helped Yueyue and Yangyang last time. Although it’s not easy to be a stepmother, and I’m an outsider, I shouldn’t interfere in other people’s family affairs, Lü Jie definitely can’t treat Shitou as her own son.”
It was because she had seen the injuries on the child that Shu Ying was worried.
Even if a child is sick, it's impossible for them to remain completely unresponsive.
