Li Xi didn't get up until noon, and when she came out, she found Feng Monian sitting in the courtyard.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the treetops, dappling his body.
A tea set is laid out in front of me, the aroma of tea wafting through the air, blending seamlessly with the surrounding tranquility.
Seeing Li Xi come out, Feng Monian looked up, a smile flashing in his eyes. He said softly, "You're awake. Perfect timing. I just brewed some fresh tea. Come and have a taste."
Li Xi nodded and walked towards him, feeling a little sleepy.
She sat down next to Feng Monian and poured her a cup of hot tea.
The aroma of tea instantly cleared her mind. She took a small sip, savoring the lingering fragrance and feeling a surge of warmth in her heart.
Feng Monian gazed at her and asked softly, "How are you feeling?"
Li Xi smiled and replied, "Very good."
Just then, Si Liu rushed over and reported that Huang Er had already left Yuncheng and San Qi had gone to chase after him.
She hurriedly finished her food, said goodbye to Feng Monian, and then quickly headed in the direction Huang Er had left.
Feng Monian had other matters to attend to, so he didn't go with them. He stood in the courtyard, watching Li Xi's departing figure, a ripple of emotion stirring within him.
After catching up with Sanqi, Li Xi ordered him to return to Yuncheng to continue monitoring the antique shop owner.
She followed Huang Er's carriage at a leisurely pace.
After traveling for about two hours, Huang Er stopped at a remote village.
Seeing this, Li Xi immediately concealed himself and followed.
Huang Er entered the estate and stopped in front of an inconspicuous courtyard. He looked around, then pushed open the door and went inside. Li Xi quietly followed him in. The room was dimly lit, with only a single oil lamp casting a faint glow.
Huang Er stood inside the room with his back to her, seemingly waiting for something.
She took a deep breath, held it, and waited quietly.
Just then, a faint sound of footsteps came from outside, and two figures carrying a large box walked in from outside.
Li Xi's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly focused her gaze. She saw that the person was dressed in black, with a black cloth covering his face, revealing only a pair of gloomy eyes.
Upon seeing the newcomer, Huang Er immediately went to greet him, and the three of them began to talk in hushed tones.
Li Xi listened intently, only to hear Huang Er say, "Once I've dealt with that kid surnamed Li, I'll definitely be able to control things over there..." The rest was unclear.
The man in black let out a cold laugh, a glint of satisfaction flashing in his eyes. He said, "Huang Er, your performance this time was indeed outstanding. If you do well, you'll soon be summoned by the master."
The man in black glanced at Huang Er and nodded in satisfaction.
After exchanging a few more words, the man in black turned and left.
Huang Er stood there, watching the man in black disappear into the darkness, a chill creeping into his heart.
He then ordered his men to load the boxes onto the carriage and continue their journey. They sped along and soon returned to Huangshi Town.
Although the city gates of Huangshi Town were tightly closed, Huang Er, as the county magistrate's brother-in-law, naturally had his privileges, and the group entered the Huang residence smoothly.
Li Xi had no choice but to let her horse go and find a relatively lax guard post around the city wall. Taking advantage of the patrolling soldiers' inattention, she quickly climbed up the city wall.
Under the cover of night, Li Xi finally arrived at the inn. Exhausted and covered in dust, she lay down on the bed and immediately fell into a deep sleep.
The birdsong broke the silence of early morning, and Li Xi was awakened by a knock on the door. She rubbed her eyes, opened the door, and saw a waiter from the inn standing outside, holding a letter in his hand.
"Young master, someone specifically asked me to give this to you," the servant said, handing over the letter.
Li Xi took the letter, a hint of doubt rising in her heart. She opened the envelope, took out the letter, and saw that it was written in simple handwriting:
"All is well, no need to worry—Master."
Li Xi breathed a sigh of relief, and her worries eased somewhat.
She looked up at a corner of the courtyard, where Fang Siqi was intently sharpening the sword in his hand.
"Brother Fang," Li Xi called softly.
Fang Siqi looked up at the sound and her gaze fell on Li Xi's face: "What's wrong?"
“I received a letter from my master. He said everything is fine and we don’t need to go looking for him,” Li Xi said, a relieved smile appearing on her lips.
Fang Siqi also felt a sense of relief. He nodded to show his understanding: "That's good, but we still have to continue with what we're doing here."
She nodded, sat down at the stone table, and told Fang Siqi in detail about her discovery yesterday.
Upon hearing this, Fang Siqi frowned, clearly realizing the seriousness of the problem. He said in a deep voice, "During this time, I have secretly investigated all of Huang Er's businesses and properties in Huangshi Town and discovered some unknown secrets."
He paused, then continued, "Huang Er is not only involved in smuggling, but also has intricate connections with the Red Lotus Sect. More importantly, based on your findings yesterday, most of what he has obtained over the years has been offered to their leader."
Looking at Li Xi, his eyes gleamed with determination: "If these secrets are exposed, they will cause a huge uproar. But no matter what, I must investigate to the end."
His fists clenched so tightly they cracked, his knuckles turned white from the force, and the veins on the back of his hands bulged as if they were about to burst through the skin. His eyes were sharp and fervent, like a burning bonfire, ready to incinerate his enemy with just a spark.
Li Xi was just an ordinary working-class person living in the future, and he was not good at political intrigue.
Upon arriving in this world, she inherited the original owner's martial prowess, managing to solve some problems using only her cleverness. But the matter before her was far beyond her capabilities.
"Don't worry, the imperial decree from Kyoto should arrive soon. With the two of us, we can't shake their foundation. We should wait for the right opportunity." Li Xi planned to discuss matters with Huang Er.
“We will succeed,” he said suddenly, gripping the sword in his hand tightly.
“Yes, we will succeed,” she replied.
She will succeed. Since fate has brought her here, she must leave something behind, even if it's just her life.
Right after lunch, Master Huang personally came to visit.
He wore a warm smile, his tone tinged with apology and familiarity, "Brother Li, I've been busy with many trivial matters lately and have neglected you. Please forgive me."
Li Xi chuckled inwardly, thinking that Master Huang was probably plotting against her.
He maintained his honest smile and replied, "Brother Huang, you're too kind. You're so busy, yet you still remember your little brother. I'm already very grateful. I'm still waiting for you to help me make a fortune."
A sly glint flashed in Master Huang's eyes. He then patted Li Xi on the shoulder and said in a serious tone, "Brother Li, I've prepared all the goods. It all depends on how you arrange things on your end. When we can make money is up to you."
