Chapter 222 Breakfast at a Street Stall
As dawn broke, the program crew placed their lottery box in the center of the rural courtyard.
As Zhu Lili passed by Su Yingxue, her high heels trailing behind her skirt, a faint smile played on her lips.
Behind them stood the brothers Chen Mo and Chen Chen, one carrying a box full of exquisite tableware, the other looking down at the lottery information sent by their agent, their eyes full of certainty.
Lin Qiao, holding the kitchen utensils, stood behind Xia Paopao. Her face was cold as she helped straighten Xia Paopao's crooked bow.
Xia Paopao waited excitedly for the draw.
"Dear contestants, the theme of this competition is 'the atmosphere of everyday life'. Your booth location will be determined by drawing lots. You will have three hours to prepare, and the winner will be determined by your sales volume."
As soon as the director finished speaking, Zhu Lili stepped forward first, and Chen Chen immediately gave her a look.
Zhu Lili precisely pinched the crumpled paper ball with her fingertips, and when she unfolded it, the words "Intersection of Yuying Road in the city center" made the pride in her eyes almost overflow.
Yuying Road is bordered by a prestigious middle school on one side and a bustling commercial district on the other. During the morning rush hour, it's packed with people, making it a sure-fire start for them.
Su Yingxue drew the last lot. The slip of paper unfolded, revealing the words "Gate No. 3, West Suburb Industrial Park," which elicited a few low sighs of regret from those around her.
Shen Yu leaned closer to take a look, and her face instantly turned pale: "The West Suburbs Industrial Park? It's full of factories and construction sites. The workers either bring their own lunch or go to the canteen. Who would buy our stuff?"
Upon hearing this, Zhu Lili deliberately raised her voice. Chen Mo stepped forward to straighten her collar, and she continued, "Oh, luck is also part of ability. Su Yingxue, good luck, don't end up with zero sales."
Chen Chen immediately leaned close to Zhu Lili's ear and whispered, "Sister Lili, the coupons have been arranged, and the fan club from Yuying Road will also be bringing people to support us. We're guaranteed a huge crowd."
Zhu Lili nodded in satisfaction, turned around to prepare the ingredients, and deliberately bumped into Su Yingxue as she passed by.
Half an hour later, the two groups arrived at their respective stalls.
Chen Mo and Chen Chen had already set up Zhu Lili's food truck in front of her stall on Yuying Road – a trendy food truck with Zhu Lili's image on it, a promotional sign, and free autographed cards.
Chef Wang focused intently on cooking, his fluid and skillful movements making him appear incredibly professional to those around him. Before long, beautiful sandwiches were ready.
They sell beautifully packaged sandwiches and fruit teas, which look great and aren't too expensive. With coupons and fan support, long queues quickly formed.
Zhu Lili stood behind the stall, smiling brightly at the camera. Chen Mo helped her hand out ingredients, while Chen Chen was busy maintaining order. The three of them worked together seamlessly.
However, due to fans blocking the way for their support, Yu Ying Road, which was already crowded, became even more congested.
Many parents of school-aged children had some complaints. But seeing the reporters taking pictures, they all muttered, "Why are these celebrities blocking the way? This is the time when our children are in a hurry to get to school."
But in a hurry to get to work, I simply ignored it.
On the other side, at Gate 3 of the West Suburbs Industrial Park, the scene is completely different.
Along the bumpy, uneven cement road, only a few leafless sycamore trees stood. In the distance, the roar of machinery echoed from a construction site, and occasionally a truck would roar past, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Looking at the empty surroundings, Shen Yu's eyes reddened again: "There's no one here at all! Zhu Lili must have conspired with Chen Mo and Chen Chen to do this!"
Su Yingxue didn't panic. She looked around and her gaze fell on the construction site entrance not far away—several workers were squatting on the ground, gnawing on hard, dry steamed buns and swallowing them with mineral water.
There were also some workers in overalls hurrying to the factory, their faces showing exhaustion.
She observed carefully. Although it was industrial land, there were many workers here. It was a food wasteland. Perhaps it was a breakthrough point.
"Don't worry, Xiaoyu."
Su Yingxue patted Shen Yu on the shoulder, "Let's try a different approach."
The ingredients she brought for breakfast were simple: free-range chicken, noodles, green vegetables, scallions, mushrooms, and chicken soup that had been simmering overnight.
Instead of making fancy trendy dishes, she rolled up her sleeves, first ladled the piping hot mushroom and chicken soup into a bowl, sprinkled it with chopped green onions and salt for seasoning, then scooped in the chewy noodles, and finally topped it with a handful of bright green leafy vegetables.
A bowl of chicken noodle soup has a clear and flavorful broth, with chicken stewed until tender and falling off the bone. The noodles are soaked in the delicious broth, and the mushrooms are fragrant and delicious. Just smelling it warms your stomach.
Lin Qiao looked at the chicken noodle soup that Su Yingxue had prepared and raised an eyebrow.
"It's a bit monotonous."
She turned to Xia Paopao and asked, "Hey! What kind of fried food do you want for breakfast?"
Xia Paopao's eyes sparkled as she immediately began to imagine: "Fried chicken legs, fried squid, and fried crispy pork."
Lin Qiao's face darkened. "This is a bit too expensive; I didn't bring that many materials."
"How about we make some fried dough sticks? Something simple."
Shen Yu thought about the breakfast she used to have when she was a child and went to school.
“No problem, that’s a good idea.” Lin Qiao said as she began preparing the materials.
In no time, a large fried dough stick was up. The aroma wafted through the air, complementing Su Yingxue's chicken noodle soup, and immediately attracted a lot of people.
The first customer was a truck driver who was just passing by, but the rich aroma of chicken soup made him stop and ask, "Hey girl, how much is a bowl of noodles?"
"Ten yuan a bowl, unlimited chicken," Su Yingxue replied with a smile.
The driver's eyes widened: "Such a good deal? Give me a bowl!"
After finishing the hot mushroom and chicken noodle soup, the driver sighed contentedly, "This soup is so delicious! It's even better than the one I make at home!"
"Hey, how much is your fried dough? It looks pretty good."
Lin Qiao immediately spoke up. "Three yuan each, five yuan for two."
The truck driver immediately took out his money and bought two more fried dough sticks. He soaked the dough sticks in the leftover chicken noodle soup broth.
The fried dough sticks were golden and crispy, crunchy with every bite. Fresh out of the oven, they weren't greasy even after several bites. Their savory flavor made him instantly addicted. For a driver like him who travels all over the place, freshly baked food was his favorite. Not to mention paired with the fragrant mushroom and chicken soup.
After he finished eating, he didn't rush to leave; instead, he took out his phone.
I posted a message in the truck drivers' group: "There's a place selling chicken noodle soup at Gate 3 of the industrial park. It tastes amazing and it's cheap! Long-haul truck drivers, come and warm your stomachs!"
The message, once sent, was like a pebble thrown into a lake, instantly creating ripples.
Su Yingxue actually saw several familiar faces. These were the truck drivers she had seen when she was setting up a stall in other cities.
After exchanging greetings, they didn't stand on ceremony and bought out the entire chicken noodle soup stall.
Su Yingxue's business is getting better and better, and many of the workers who come down from the night shift eat breakfast there. Some of her colleagues who come on the early shift also eat there.
First, a few workers came together, and after tasting it, they praised it highly. Then, more and more workers and drivers came after hearing the news. The once deserted roadside gradually formed a long queue.
