Chapter 36 The Big Star Gets Cut in Line

"What...what's going on?" Chen Wang turned to look at Xiao Xiao, who also looked bewildered.

Su Yingxue was focused on making pancakes and seemed unaware of the two strangers who entered through the door. She skillfully flipped the pancakes, brushed on her secret sauce, sprinkled on scallions and sesame seeds, then expertly cut them, packed them up, and handed them to the customers in front of her.

"Here's your savory pancake, please take it." Su Yingxue said with a smile to an elderly woman. "We also have a new product, Fuding pork slices, which you are welcome to try."

Chen Wang unconsciously walked to the back of the line, and Xiao Xiao quickly followed, quietly turning on the camera.

“Sir, our line... is for buying cakes..." A girl in front of them looked back curiously.

Chen Wang chuckled dryly, "Oh, I...would like to buy one to try too."

The line moved slowly forward. After about ten minutes, it was finally Chen Wang's turn.

"Hello, would you like a savory pancake?" Su Yingxue looked up and saw that they were two strangers, but still asked politely.

Chen Wang nodded, but his eyes remained fixed on the pancake in her hand. The golden, crispy crust and the rich, savory aroma were indeed very appetizing.

"I'll take one," Chen Wang said, then hesitated for a moment, "Um...why are you still open so late?"

Su Yingxue smiled and said, "In a hospital, there are always people working night shifts or waking up hungry in the middle of the night. I'll stay open a little longer to make things easier for everyone."

"Then...why are so many young people buying?" Chen Wang pointed to the young people in the line who were clearly not patients.

As Su Yingxue handed the pancakes to the customer in front of her, she replied, "Maybe... the taste is alright? I didn't expect it to become so popular. At first, only people from the neighborhood came to buy them, but then someone posted about it on social media, and more and more people started buying them..."

Chen Wang took the steaming hot savory pancake and took a bite.

His expression froze instantly.

Beneath the crispy outer layer lies a soft yet chewy pancake, its rich savory sauce perfectly balanced with a sweet and salty flavor, complemented by the aroma of scallions and sesame seeds—every bite is irresistible. This is definitely one of the best savory pancakes he's ever had.

"How is it?" Su Yingxue asked with a smile, "Is it delicious?"

Chen Wang nodded subconsciously, his mouth full of biscuits, and mumbled, "Mmm...delicious..."

He finished the whole pancake in a few bites, licking his lips with lingering satisfaction. At that moment, he completely forgot the purpose of his trip—to smear the street vendor who had refused to participate in their program.

"Um... could we have another one?" Chen Wang asked, unusually a little embarrassed.

Su Yingxue smiled: "Of course, but you'll have to wait in line."

Chen Wang obediently returned to the end of the line, his mind a complete mess. He had originally planned to smear this "ignorant" vendor who had refused their program, but he never expected to find himself queuing up to buy her pancakes, and... even finding them delicious.

Standing next to him, Xiao also bought a pancake. While eating, she whispered to Chen Wang, "Brother Chen... this pancake... is really delicious..."

Chen Wang did not answer. He looked at the crowd in front of him and at Su Yingxue's focused and satisfied back, and suddenly realized that he might have made a mistake.

"How...did you cut in line?"

Suddenly, a young girl's protest erupted from the queue. A slender woman wearing a baseball cap and a mask that almost covered half her face was clutching her phone tightly, glaring angrily ahead—a plump middle-aged woman was swaggering in front of a little boy holding a toy gun.

"Oh my!" The middle-aged woman turned and glared, her tone immediately becoming sharp. "My grandson wants to eat early!" She shielded her grandson with her thick arms, like a mother hen protecting her chicks. "You little girl, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? Trying to lose weight? Look at your skinny arms and legs, you're so thin you could fly away in a strong wind!"

Shen Yu, the "slender girl" accused of cutting in line, was trembling with anger. She had specifically canceled a day of filming and spent half an hour in her hotel room searching social media before finally discovering that Su Yingxue's savory pancake stall only opened at 10 PM. She had finally waited in line for over twenty minutes, and it was almost her turn when this unreasonable old woman appeared!

"I...I've been waiting in line for ages!" Shen Yu pointed towards the queue, her voice trembling slightly with excitement. "No matter what, you can't cut in line! Everyone's waiting!"

She was wearing a loose sweatshirt and deliberately pulled her baseball cap down low, intending to buy the pancakes discreetly and head back to the film set. Who would have thought this would happen! When she looked up again, she noticed the line behind the older woman had started whispering, and two more people had joined her—meaning she'd have to wait for at least another batch of pancakes!

The pan was sizzling in Su Yingxue's pan, the golden pancakes rolling in the oil, the rich aroma of soy sauce mixed with the fragrance of sesame filling the entire cafeteria. She was completely focused on flipping the pancakes, oblivious to the escalating argument behind her.

"You're still an adult!" Shen Yu took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "Can't you just give way to us young people?" She glanced at the chubby little boy next to the older woman. "Isn't this how you show respect for the elderly and care for the young?"

The middle-aged woman's face immediately fell, looking like a cat whose tail had been stepped on: "These young people nowadays, they're getting more and more disrespectful!" she yelled, drawing the attention of several people in line. "At our age, we've lived a life more arduous than you've ever had! You can't even count the hardships we've endured! We finally have a precious grandson, and we just want him to have a warm meal before he's too old to eat..."

"Exactly, exactly!" someone in the group immediately chimed in, "That grandma loves her grandson..."

Shen Yu's temples throbbed with anger. She instinctively took a half-step back, but unexpectedly bumped into Zhu Xiaoxiao behind her.

"Ouch!" came a soft exclamation from behind.

"Sorry..." Shen Yu turned her head and saw Zhu Xiaoxiao, with her ponytail, rubbing her shoulder. She lowered her voice and said, "Shen Yu, we snuck out this time. We have to hurry back to the film set after we buy everything; the car is waiting at the entrance!" She anxiously pointed to the cafeteria entrance, "If we delay any longer, we'll be late for tomorrow morning's scene!"

Shen Yu bit her lower lip, about to argue a bit more, when she saw the little boy suddenly open his round eyes and stare at the sparkling rhinestone decorations on her hat.

"Grandma!" the little boy suddenly pointed at Shen Yu, shouting in a childish but assertive voice, "I want that hat! It's so sparkly and pretty!"

"Oh, you want it?" The old lady's eyes lit up when she heard this, and her rough fingers reached directly towards Shen Yu's head. "Grandma will get it for you!" She ripped off Shen Yu's baseball cap and roughly pulled off her mask as well.

"What does she look like? Let me see. Maybe she's an ugly duckling?" The middle-aged woman, clutching her hat, scrutinized Shen Yu's face under the cafeteria lights. "Oh my!" she suddenly exclaimed, her eyes widening. "Isn't this...that actress from the TV series...what...Shen...Yu?"
