Chapter 244 Song Yan Wakes Up

Si Yuan's mind was buzzing.

Jiang Wang used to be eccentric, domineering, and reckless. He couldn't accept anyone, including her, so Si Yuan was afraid of him and didn't try to accept him.

So after waking up, Si Yuan kept wondering, to what extent could Jiang Wang love her?

She would subconsciously choose her brother, who used to be gentler to her, at this moment, but she never expected... Jiang Wang was completely different from before.

He abandoned his pride and dignity, willing to wait here with her, waiting for someone he didn't like...

This was completely unexpected by Si Yuan.

She felt a sudden pang of pain in her heart, and her anger vanished instantly, all her stubbornness and grievances crumbling away.

She didn't want to see Jiang Wang condescend to compromise like this.

She knew she had done something wrong and said the wrong thing, and that her words must have hurt Jiang Wang.

So Si Yuan took a small step forward and gently hugged Jiang Wang's waist.

Her voice was muffled and choked with sobs, like a child admitting their mistake: "I'm sorry."

Jiang Wang's body stiffened. He hadn't expected that she would suddenly apologize in a soft and gentle voice a second after they had been at each other's throats.

He first felt heartache.

Then came helplessness.

His hand, which had been hanging by his side, paused for a moment, then finally rose and landed on her back.

He never thought of blaming her.

Then, Jiang Wang heard Si Yuan say, "I can't accept that I've fallen in love with you the moment I open my eyes."

Jiang Wang closed his eyes briefly: "I know."

Putting yourself in Jiang Wang's shoes, if Jiang Wang had lost his memory, Si Yuan might have suffered even more, and Si Yuan certainly wouldn't have left so easily.

This is what Jiang Wang has learned over the years: not to simply use self-awareness to guide all feelings and relationships between two people, but to consider issues from the other person's perspective.

Si Yuan buried her face in his chest, her voice broken, "That's why I acted that way, that's why I subconsciously gravitated towards Song Yan. I'll slowly accept it, I really will."

She paused, her fingers gripping the hem of his shirt tightly, her voice filled with self-reproach: "I'm sorry, I'm stubborn, I'm sensitive... Have I hurt you like this before?"

If that's really the case, how could Jiang Wang possibly stand it?

Jiang Wang's throat tightened. He looked down at the person in his arms, at the soft whorl of hair on her head, and felt a mix of pain and bitterness in his heart.

Jiang Wang patted her back gently, smiled, and then lowered his head to rub her hair: "Only stubborn people need someone like me who they can't get rid of, right?"

This kind of person is the most suitable.

Si Yuan's nose suddenly stung with tears. She didn't say anything more, but buried her face even deeper and hugged him tightly.

Jiang Wang held her like that until the door to the ward in the distance opened and the sound of a trolley was heard again.

He looked down at the person in his arms and gently patted her shoulder: "Song Yan is here."

Si Yuan looked up.

Several nurses pushed a hospital bed towards us, approaching from a distance.

Song Yan lay on the hospital bed, his face as pale as paper, his lips bloodless, and his arm wrapped in thick gauze, connected to an IV line.

Si Yuan held her breath instantly, her gaze fixed on the figure covered by the white sheet.

Song Yan was quickly pushed in front of him.

He lay on the hospital bed, his whole body slumped in the blankets. He was much thinner than I remembered, his shoulders slumped, and he no longer resembled the gentle and refined foster brother he once was.

This was the first time she had seen him since she woke up.

This is the scene.

Si Yuan's fingertips curled up uncontrollably, and the softest part of her heart was still stung by the pain—a heartache etched into her bones by years of habitual dependence.

Her eyes welled up slightly, but she held back her tears and didn't rush forward uncontrollably as she had expected.

She just stood there, watching quietly.

She wasn't lying; she genuinely just wanted to confirm if Song Yan was truly alright, otherwise she would feel guilty and remorseful.

When she actually saw it, Si Yuan was calmer than she had imagined.

Looking at the person who once occupied her entire youthful memories, looking at the brother who was once so gentle to her but later hurt her deeply, looking at his current disheveled and vulnerable appearance.

I really feel sorry for them.

But in that heartache, there was no longer the dependence and obsession of the past, only a faint, distant sense of melancholy.

In comparison, Jiang Wang seemed to give her a more sincere feeling.

Si Yuan glanced at Jiang Wang and said slowly, "He's lost a lot of weight."

Jiang Wang grunted in response, glanced lightly at the wound, and refrained from saying anything too harsh because there were two police officers nearby.

"The injuries weren't minor. Do you believe he's gone mad now?"

Si Yuan glanced at him.

From this perspective, Jiang Wang isn't really a completely different person; at least when he's being sarcastic, he's still the same as before.

The nurse pushed the hospital bed to the two of them, paused for a moment, and reminded them, "Family members can come with us to the regular ward now."

The two followed the nurse toward a regular ward.

Jiang Wang walked half a step behind Si Yuan, one hand in his pocket and the other hanging naturally at his side. His gaze fell on Si Yuan, then he gave Song Yan a cold look.

It's to the point where I get annoyed just looking at it.

Once inside the regular ward, the nurse adjusted the IV stand and monitor, gave a few more instructions, and then turned to leave.

The two police officers exchanged a glance, and one of them looked at Jiang Wang: "Mr. Jiang, please come out with us to make a statement."

Jiang Wang nodded, his gaze first falling on Si Yuan: "I'll be right back, you wait for me here."

Si Yuan hummed in agreement.

Jiang Wang glanced at Song Yan again, his eyes filled with a hint of coldness, before turning and leaving with the police.

The ward door was closed, and the atmosphere in the room became completely quiet, with only the regular "beeping" sound of the monitor remaining.

Si Yuan looked at Song Yan's pale face and didn't know what to do. She felt uncomfortable no matter what she did, so she just stood there, her gaze fixed on his arm wrapped in gauze.

Not long after, Song Yan's fingers suddenly twitched.

Si Yuan's breath hitched, and she instinctively tensed up, wondering whether she should call the doctor.

Song Yan's eyes indeed slowly opened.

His vision was a little blurry, and he struggled to move his eyes, scanning the ceiling of the ward before finally landing on Si Yuan's face.

After a long while, he managed a tired and weak smile, somewhat surprised and delighted: "I knew it, I would see you as soon as I opened my eyes."

Si Yuan's body stiffened for a moment, and after a few seconds of silence, she spoke: "You shouldn't be so childish."

Song Yan's smile froze, and a trace of sadness flashed in his eyes.

He looked at Si Yuan, his voice weak and somewhat resentful: "Did Jiang Wang tell you that I hurt you many times, which is why you are so cold to me?"

Si Yuan pursed her lips and remained silent.

Seeing that she remained silent, as if she was certain of his guess, Song Yan gave a bitter smile: "But did he ever tell you that the child, Si Xingzhou, was raised by us together?"

Si Yuan's body jolted violently, as if struck by lightning.

What is he saying?

Song Yan continued, "You two were separated for five years, and during those five years, you were with me... He didn't tell you any of this, did he?"
