Chapter 186 Reunion
Just as Jiang Wang reached the elevator, he suddenly heard a voice.
The voice was very soft, barely audible, carrying a familiar coolness.
"Xiao Zhou, where are you?"
Jiang Wang stopped in his tracks.
He felt a sudden clench in his chest, and looked up sharply in the direction of the sound.
At the end of the corridor, there was a half-open glass door, through which the wind was blowing in, causing the white curtains inside to flutter.
A slender figure could be vaguely seen flashing by as it entered the swimming pool.
Jiang Wang almost instinctively stepped forward, but just then, the elevator dinged.
The door opened, and several passersby walked out chatting and laughing. The sound of footsteps, the sound of the door closing, and the sound of the wind mixed together, completely drowning out the voice.
He stood at the door, his hand already on the doorknob, but suddenly stopped.
For five years, he had heard that voice countless times in his dreams, each time as realistic as if it were real.
But when I woke up, there was nothing there.
Perhaps, this is just another hallucination.
Jiang Wang gave a self-deprecating smile, withdrew his hand, and turned to enter the elevator.
The door closed slowly, and he didn't see that on the other side of the glass door, Si Yuan was leading Si Xingzhou out.
The rain outside was quite heavy, and fine water streaks hung on the glass windows, blurring the entire city outside into a watercolor painting.
Song Yan followed behind them, smiling as he walked, saying, "Xiao Zhou is very well-behaved and learns very quickly."
Si Yuan turned to look at her son, her expression softening, and said softly, "Thank you."
The three of them planned to have lunch first. A new Hunan restaurant had opened downstairs, and Si Yuan really wanted to eat some strong-flavored dishes.
As Si Yuan walked towards the hotel lobby, she seemed to remember something and slowed her pace.
Actually, she received a message from Jiang Shu a few days ago.
Jiang's mother is ill. Jiang Shu mentioned her in a message, saying that her mother always thinks about her and, even if she doesn't forgive Jiang Wang, hopes that she can come back to see her one last time.
Si Yuan didn't know whether she should go back.
Going back means potentially facing Jiang Wang and those memories she spent five years trying to suppress.
More importantly, she feared that Si Xingzhou would no longer be hers.
He was her only family member, the only family member in the world who loved her wholeheartedly and would never hurt her.
Just then, Si Xingzhou suddenly grabbed his mother's hand and said seriously, "By the way, Mom, when Uncle went to the bathroom just now, a woman was sneaking towards me. I felt something was wrong, so I quickly went into the water and swam towards a crowded area."
Song Yan's expression changed.
Si Yuan smiled, squatted down, and patted her son's head. She wasn't surprised, because Si Xingzhou often did this.
He would assume any heavily dressed man on the street was a spy, and if he saw a wrecked car, he would imagine there was a monster inside. He got used to it.
"Xiao Zhou's imagination is running wild again. Has she been watching too many suspense movies?"
Si Xingzhou frowned slightly: "No, that woman was wearing a lot of clothes. It's definitely not normal to wear so much in a swimming pool!"
Si Yuan nodded in agreement, but didn't take it seriously.
But Song Yan's face darkened.
He knew in his heart that this matter was most likely related to Lin Shuangyu.
There has been no news of that woman for the past few years, but Song Yan knows that she has never given up on getting revenge on Si Yuan.
It was only out of concern for protecting Si Yuan that she had been hiding so secretly.
Song Yan lowered his voice and instructed, "Your uncle made a mistake just now, Xiao Zhou. From now on, no matter what, you must never be alone, understand?"
Si Xingzhou nodded.
Song Yan noticed that Si Yuan was only wearing a light-colored long-sleeved shirt, and that she might catch a chill later.
He frowned slightly, then said casually, "I think I left something in my room. I'll go back and get it."
Si Yuan nodded and handed him the room key. "Let's go over first."
Song Yan took the room key and turned to walk towards the elevator.
Back in the room, he grabbed a wool shawl for Si Yuan and then came out again, re-entering the elevator.
Just as the door was about to close, a slightly cold male voice came from the end of the corridor—
"Wait a moment."
Song Yan subconsciously pressed the door open button.
The door slowly opened.
Under the dim yellow light, a tall man walked over, with a little girl who looked like a doll behind him.
Jiang Wang.
He was wearing a black trench coat, his shoulders and back were hard and cold, and his features were still sharp, but he was more composed and aloof than he was five years ago.
Their eyes met in mid-air.
No one expected it.
The air seemed to freeze for a moment, leaving only the pattering of rain outside.
Jiang Wang's eyebrows twitched slightly, as if confirming something. Finally, he parted his thin lips and uttered two words: "Excuse me."
Song Yan stepped aside to make room, but did not retract his hand from the door open button.
Jiang Wang stepped into the elevator and stood not far from him.
The elevator doors slowly closed again, and the mirror-like metal wall reflected the cold profiles of the two people.
Jiang Wang turned his head slightly, his gaze falling on the shawl in his hand, his brow furrowing imperceptibly.
Women's.
But he neither asked nor said anything.
When the elevator reached the restaurant on the 18th floor, Song Yan was the first to walk out, his steps quick yet carrying an undeniable air of wariness.
Jiang Wang stood in the elevator, watching his figure disappear at the end of the corridor before slowly turning his gaze away.
He raised his hand and pressed "3", deciding to take Zheng Yiyi to get the doll she left in the playroom first. The little girl was making a fuss, having hugged that little rabbit since she was little.
The door closed again, shutting him out of the noise of the restaurant outside.
When the door was opened again, Jiang Wang still had his eyes downcast. It was lunchtime, and the corridor of the third-floor playroom was almost empty, with only the occasional sound of children's laughter.
Jiang Wang did not leave immediately.
He stood there, his hand still on the button. The elevator doors remained open, and the cold white light shone on his profile, casting a shadow.
A woman's shawl was enough for him to guess the answer.
Song Yan wasn't the type to take care of other women; besides Si Yuan, he couldn't think of anyone else.
It felt like something had hit my chest, a dull ache.
For some reason, even though the window was closed, Jiang Wang felt cold from head to toe as he listened to the intermittent rain outside.
He even began to feel that coming to Nancheng was an extremely foolish decision—a suicidal move that only made him look foolish.
I shouldn't have come.
Seeing that Jiang Wang hadn't moved, Zheng Yiyi gently tugged at his sleeve from behind and whispered, "Uncle, aren't we going to get the little rabbit?"
Jiang Wang then came to his senses. He looked down at the little girl and said in a low voice, "Yes, let's go."
He got out of the elevator and found the little rabbit.
"Uncle, thankfully my little rabbit is still here!"
Zheng Yiyi was overjoyed, and Jiang Wang felt envious of her smile of relief at regaining what she had lost.
If only he could find the little rabbit he's looking for so easily.
